Thread 13 - the one with the loot from Black Friday

Reastie · 25/11/2023 06:56

13 - unlucky for some. Let's hope it's very lucky for us!

I bought a couple of things in the Black Friday sales - an amazon stick (I'm pretty sure we couldn't just bought a smart tv by now with the amount we've got through as they break after a year or so) and noise cancelling headphones for DD. Hope you're all getting through the lists - December is fast upon us!

In message two are the links and info from last year - if anyone has anything they'd like me to amend or add, please do tag me and I'll update.

A reminder not to post affiliate links in the thread but that MN do change amazon links shared by posters into MN affiliate links.

Please do watch the thread rather than post to mark place to make it easier for everyone to keep up and find relevant info.

If anyone has an Argos code that they could PM me please I would be so so grateful. I’m never quick enough for the ones posted on this thread. I’ve got £200 in my basket so any amount off would be great, over the years I’ve signed up with all my 3 emails but I have only ever received the sign up codes, I’ve triple checked my preferences but still no joy!

I have been put in charge of the pass the parcel for Christmas day and so need to find a bargainous gift for the centre ideally under £10 and suitable for either sex ages between 17 and 77. All ideas welcome

Scratch card taped to a large bar of chocolate/bag of sweets.

Game. Some good deals on amazon black Friday deals.

A travel cup and £5 costa/Starbucks voucher.

Fleece blanket from primark/asda/dunhelm. Usually around £6.

Hot water bottle.

Christmas themed lego set. There's usually a small set for around £10.

Novelty mug full of hot chocolate sachets. Or the promise of not having to make their own drinks for the rest of Christmas day!! 🤣

I want to get something small for each of the office staff at my children’s school. There’s quite a few of them and I don’t know them that well just they are always lovely to my children. Any ideas? I don’t have much budget x

What about the Cath Kidtson hand cream crackers from Sainsburys? Currently £8 for 4.

@GrangeFill Literally just got a Nectar card so that's perfect timing, thanks for the heads up!

If anyone lives in Newcastle, I passed a Cadbury's bus advert on Scotswood Road while heading to Newcastle from the Metro Centre earlier today. I didn't get chance to stop so not sure if it was still eligible for scanning but worth a look if you're passing.

Laneige midnight minis gift set

^ Can anyone find this in stock please? (Not eBay or Vinted etc) I should have ordered sooner but forgot and now it’s out of stock everywhere!

Posting again in the hope someone has a Pandora code they would be able to share please? They tend to email a couple of days with a 'thank you for your purchase, here is some money off' and a code to use at checkout 😊

Their black Friday deals are running all weekend. Hope that's helpful.

Can any of you lovely bargain seeking wizards help please? 🙏🏻
Following a change of gift request from my gorgeous (but contrary) god daughter, I now need to buy an additional Sol de Janeiro Jet Set gift pack.
Most places seem only to offer free shipping when spending over £25.
Is there any way I can get this with free P&P?
Many thanks.

I'm trying to find one with free delivery, too. Unfortunately it's out of stock on the boots website, (says stock coming soon) but if you use the check instore bit on the website, it may show stock near you and you could pick it up. All my local stores are showing stock.
Might be a different kettle of fish by time I can get there on Monday, mind.

I'll be interested to see if anyone knows a way of getting free p&p.

@medianewbie This was a big hit for a family game when MIL was in very early stages of dementia. Everyone can join in and from what I can remember the questions are pretty basic general knowledge. It’s really easy to understand the concept. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Colourbrain-Award-Winning-Simple-Christmas-Families/dp/B074THNNHY/ref=asc_df_B074THNNHY/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310776459020&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5075129016459687301&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006886&hvtargid=pla-627495082927&psc=1&mcid=e2b30cd830aa399d9dc8ba6441f96f56

Top Cash Back have 10% back at Argos- but only if you don’t use a code not approved by them. I spent £120 and already have £12 tracking which is better then the £7 I would have saved with a code 🙂

Can I ask please what people find a nice gift from their work 'boss'? I don't line manage most of these people but they are seconded into my project at the moment.
I want them to feel recognised and appreciated.

Blessedbethefruitz · 25/11/2023 20:01

@Beckafett Mine transfers £150 into our accounts to do something with the family, panto etc. This will only be my second year with her. My last company (equally tiny, both less than 10 people) did a huge all expenses day long drinkathon with several meals plus transport or hotel plus amazon voucher. Honestly I prefer cash/vouchers to physical things.

I think I'm on the lookout for a bean to cup coffee machine. Budget is around £100/£150 is that unachievable?
We currently have a nespresso but husband has dropped hints recently that the machine is on its way out and has mentioned the bean to cup ones being good?! I have no idea

I’m a huge fan of the DeLonghi bean to cup machines and you can get some amazing deals via the eBay refurbished shop. The machine we bought looked entirely new.

Delonghi Uk Co | eBay Stores

Refurbished coffee machines at fabulous prices from the Official De'Longhi eBay Store. These products are here for a variety of reasons, but some examples are: The customer changed their mind, Packaging damage, A minor defect which was easily repaired...

@Peakyblindsiders go to

competitions.argos.co.uk

You should see the screen below. Register with each of your emails and you will get a £5 code to each straight away. You might have to clear cookies between registering each. They might stack.

I got annoyed that I had never had a voucher in at least 5 years, so researched it 😊

Depends on your budget. Something nice and generic like wine and chocolate generally most appreciated.

Joining the thread, normally just a lurker, as I’ve done almost nothing when at this time of year I’m finished. Bit scary tbh.

need something for my dad, 75, mad golfer, few health issues, was thinking some sort of watch, he’s into tech, got an iPhone, iPad, etc. already got a golf Garmin watch but only wears it there. Thinking something with text, phone ringing, heart monitor etc.

DB is willing to chip in so was thinking £100-£149 max.

@Crapyeartoo my golf mad dh has suggested a Range Finder.

One like this: Range Finder

Peakyblindsiders · 25/11/2023 20:30

Thank you @fishfingersandchipsagain for the Argos suggestion, although I’ve just tried entering my emails and it tells me it looks like I am already signed up with those accounts at that link. But like you they have never sent me any codes such as the ones I see posted on here frequently! Did it let you use the emails you had already signed up with? I’m destined for no codes I think!

I usually get a bottle of wine from my Boss. It's just a token gesture but we all appreciate it. We usually get him beer in return!

Beckafett · 25/11/2023 20:32

Thanks @User236792 ; I was thinking this. I always appreciate presents like this and I know most them drink

Beckafett · 25/11/2023 20:33

@PieonaBarm aww that's nice; I do think a bit of recognition goes along way

Seasonofthewitches · 25/11/2023 20:36

Can anyone recommend some games for adults to play over Christmas once the little ones are in bed please? Would herd mentality be a good shout or is that more suited to children? Ages between 20 and 70. Last year we enjoyed the one where you have the name of someone famous on your head and have to guess who you are.
