What do you do with your chocolates?

Maybe it's just us, but each year we buy tubs of wrapped chocolates, like Quality Street or Roses - or something a bit nicer Grin

I never know what to do with them. I want to put them out around the house so everyone can just grab what they want but I hate having the plastic tubs lying about.

Does anyone have any inventive ideas for putting out chocolates in a decorative way?

I did think of a large glass jar, like a biscotti jar. I am just worried it might be a bit heavy?

Not a bad idea @TheNoodlesIncident - thanks!

Without a lid, we'd have to keep it higher up and out of the reach of the dog. He doesn't normally bother, but I'd hate to risk it over Xmas.

But this could work!

We've got a ceramic Christmas pudding where the white sauce is the lid. It's so cute.

MammaWeasel · 16/11/2023 16:13

Little glass trifle bowls dotted about, out of reach of the dog, of course.

Or a clip top kilner jar on the coffee table

YouCanDanceSaidVodka · 16/11/2023 16:16

@Squirrelblanket That's such a great design!

hexsnidgett · 16/11/2023 16:20

I am glad you are not already looking for ideas to use them up!
We have a festive bowl too. No idea where it will go now we have moved- no mantle piece!

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 16/11/2023 16:23

I bought a cut glass bowl from a charity shop after someone on here suggested it a few years back. It sits in the living room from Christmas Eve onwards.

YouCanDanceSaidVodka · 16/11/2023 16:24

OP, I guess you could operate a 3-tier system with this?

Chocolates in smaller top one, savoury snacks in middle one, Christmas crafts/non-food items in bottom tin, perhaps?

Put them straight in your mouth?!
😁

YouCanDanceSaidVodka · 16/11/2023 16:27

@Newstaronthehorizon I like your thinking...

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 16/11/2023 16:27

I put mine in the Christmas train 🚂

TheGreatHat · 16/11/2023 17:17

I have some cut glass bowls that have been passed down to me, but you can get them for nothing from charity shops

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 16/11/2023 17:44

We have a big glass sweetie jar with a lid, and I tie a red velvet ribbon around it. It gets filled up with various flavours of Lindor, and starts on the first of December.

"...but I hate having the plastic tubs lying about."

Oh, FFS. Get over yourself and let the family have their chocolates.

Bertiesmum3 · 16/11/2023 19:54

I’ve got a small wicket type basket for fruit and a Christmas plate for sweets, the sweets doesn’t last long, so I only put a handful out a day 🤣

Pinkpinkpink15 · 16/11/2023 20:08

I put the old style Wuality Street in glass bowls. I like the way they twinkle. Others stay in the pantry & come out when we fancy them.

WoollyBat · 16/11/2023 20:16

I always hide the tub in the cupboard and get it out once in a while, or the chocs would be gone in a day. And I don't have any qualms about the plastic being visible (though I did prefer it when it was a tin). However, I seem to have a clear picture in my mind of the kind of glass sweet bowl that should be used - I don't know why! Anyway I've looked for the sweetie bowl of my mind's eye online, and it's something like this:

😂. That's were mine go. I don't have them long enough to worry about how I'm gonna display them

I’ve got this glass Christmas tree jar from The Range for sweeties, not that they last long in there!

WoollyBat · 16/11/2023 20:26

oooohhhh pretty pink ones

I'm going down a rabbit hole now and will end up buying something...

BestestBrownies · 16/11/2023 20:41

Obviously you need a whole set of little glass bowls so you can separate them out by colour and dot them round the house (after you've eaten all the best ones of course)

peonyjam · 16/11/2023 20:50

I put quality street in a short glass vase but I bought some recently and they have switched to paper wrappers and it's just not the same!

RecycleMePlease · 16/11/2023 20:54

My optician has a fantastic large glass Christmas tree, that I covet for exactly this sort of thing (I have a pumpkin one for Halloween).

No-one knows where it came from, and I've never seen one for sale myself.
