I love the fact that the nn of the person who said this to me is @chocolateisavegetable - very apt!

In message two are the links and info from last year - if anyone has anything they'd like me to amend or add, please do tag me and I'll update.

A reminder not to post affiliate links in the thread but that MN do change amazon links shared by posters into MN affiliate links.

Please do watch the thread rather than post to mark place to make it easier for everyone to keep up and find relevant info.

I'm probably hoping for too much, but I was wondering if anyone had seen something like this I could buy as a replacement. I can't even remember where it came from originally. I've tried doing a reverse image search but had no luck

Adding the link to the most recent bargains & referrals board: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6

If someone mentions a referral code / link, you can probably find what you’re looking for over there 👍🏻. If not, it’s always worth asking and someone may come up trumps.

@Qwerty21 I'm sure you could get something similar on Etsy

Qwerty21 · 13/11/2023 23:06

I've looked but I'm struggling to find something with the same saying 😔

bizzey · 13/11/2023 23:10

@Qwerty21 ..search .. "engrave your own plaque."

That might bring up more options .

Really depends. Last year I spent £100 on my 5 year old becuase I got 90% of his gifts on Vinted. Retail price it would have cost me 300 ish. But I love saving money and getting a deal.

This year he wants a switch so that's 300 like it or lump it so it just depends. I can afford it and I just wouldn't do it if I couldn't

I have a spreadsheet and budget to the penny but mainly becuase im a geek and love to do that.

Can I just say please check FB Marketplace. There are always Switches on there, boxed, hardly used etc. I recently saw the new OLED one (£300 retail & we'djust bought one for DS🙈) for £150 ono as a student just wasn't using it. I was nearly sick when I saw it.

fishfingersandchipsagain · 13/11/2023 23:24

Found you!

There are tons I agree. Tons on Vinted too. I'm even debating amazon warehouse... I'm looking everywhere. I've got all the games second hand on Vinted. And it really pains me to but new but for once I think I will just to save hassle and anything going wrong with it.

That said. I haven't bought it yet. Literally find it painful buying anything new lol

Appreciate the comment though I'm normally all over it I just am scared of the 6 year old disappointment if it's pretty much his only gift!

Desperately trying not to twitch.

We agreed not to buy the DC one big gift this year as none of them are really after anything in particular, but I’m feeling like I maybe need another mid priced gift to bulk it up a bit as a consequence. (I really don’t - they’ve got plenty and none of them want or need anything, but I can’t resist a bargain!)

OliviaFlaversham · 13/11/2023 23:52

Thank you to the poster who mentioned Pick a Pine Tree book-it was £1.68 when I got round to looking. Have to wait a week or so for delivery but love getting a new Christmas book.

My Christmas book recommendation is The Wintertide Bear - this has been £1 cheaper almost in the past but it is nearing lowest price for one of our favourite winter books. The illustrations are magical and is definitely worth getting in hardback as it gets read lots in our house.

A couple of vouchers if anyone can make use of them?

Celtic & Co £20 off when you spend £20, and

And Emp £10 off.

John Lewis has some good Beauty offers. I’ve just bought some reasonably well-reviewed hair straighteners reduced by £60 to £25.

Daimyum · 14/11/2023 00:25

@Eve I saw a tesco value 'oodie' the other day, might be an idea

Thelifeofawife · 14/11/2023 00:25

@Qwerty21 are you able to shop IRL? You can usually pick up this sort of thing in card shops (worth a try in Card Factory but I often find there’s more choice in independent card/gift shops)

Yalz · 14/11/2023 00:40

The JL £25 Babyliss hair straighteners have a 5 year guarantee, which seems generous.

AlbertCampion · 14/11/2023 01:02

@Igglepiggleandhisboat my local TK Maxx had a cocktail flavourings set for around the £10 mark I think.

You've done well getting the games on Vinted. He will love it. The original Switch Lite + games was DS's only present apart from his stocking when he was 7, almost 8, and nothing would have compared anyway to his sheer excitement for that. It's a big present!

I buy lots of things second hand, but I wouldn't buy a Switch second hand unless it was refurbished and had some kind of warranty.

They are really prone to controller drift and, as a gift, it would be gutting to find out too late that you'd bought one with that issue...

Merrilymerrilymerrily · 14/11/2023 01:55

@Bsgetty Boden also do very cosy lined hoodies. There is a nice navy one at the moment.

SevenKingsMustDie · 14/11/2023 05:47

Does anyone have any recommendations for long length joggers for DD? She has insanely long legs and Primark/New Look etc. are all mid shins on her!

She really wants some Canterbury zip legs for netball training but these seem really short too.

Looking for navy specifically.

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/11/2023 06:01

@SevenKingsMustDie try from the men’s section for joggers.
