Have I missed the Hallmark/Netflix/ Amazon prime thread on all those cheesy Prince from (insert unlikely name for snowy European country) meets girl from New York films?

Anyone share my guilty pleasure of these so awful they’re good films?

please tell me I’m not the only one here.

"Christmas In The Air" - widowed dad-of-two who is a toymaker has a tight deadline to present his new toy . Professional Planner helps him organise his life ....

"Angels In The Snow" - it has everything , lovely house , family with flaws , a sad hostory and a twist

SequinsandStiIettos · 11/11/2023 16:53

Am all Xmassed out for the day now - Falling for Xmas was cheesy but did end up ticking the right boxes. It's just now I am hungry. It was the bacon and pancakes what did it!! Grin

I like 'Christmas in the Air' but I always forget what it's called , because the title doesn't instantly tell you the plot, like a lot of them. I remember it having something to do with snowglobes (the toy makers late wife collected them) - professional planner makes cardinal sin of 'rearranging' snow globes and upsetting everyone.

A castle for christmas is my absolute favourite

I started watching this before but found it hard to get past the really dodgy Scottish accents so switched it off - maybe I should give it another try.

Twilight7777 · 11/11/2023 18:58

Another vote for the mrs miracle series. I also saw chalet girl recently, which I suppose isn’t technically xmassy, there is at least snow.

FinallyFinalGirl · 11/11/2023 21:01

I just watched 'A Castle for Christmas'. I was blubbing like a baby through some of it. I loved it. The setting was gorgeous.

My only bugbear was Brooke was waaayyy too forgiving to the mean Duke.

VillageFete · 11/11/2023 22:54

I’ve just watched one on Movies 24 and it takes the biscuit for being the most cheesy Hallmark movie I think i’ve ever seen - “Christmas bedtime stories”

It’s a new one from 2022. Plot line of a single mum, veteran husband lost in action… I won’t spoil it but I was laughing out loud at the end at the sheer corny sentiment of it all.

I found that's Christmas on sky

But it does not seem to have listings so hard to record from it.

Anyone found listings online?

That’s weird, the listings show up on my Sky. There is a Sky app you can download to phone/tablet that has all the listings and you can record from that. Failing that, there’s an online version here.

Don’t watch “the family stone” it is neither feel good nor Christmassy!

Mindovermatter247 · 11/11/2023 23:15

I love
Christmas getaway…
the Christmas contract
a Christmas wish
there’s a few others I watch yearly. Waiting for some of them to come on.

Star0Fire · 10/11/2023 16:15

I love these films too! Can we start a list?!

Love Hard- just watched this on netflix and enjoyed it!

Love Hard was brilliant
especially liked the duet (and the change of words!)
Was a more modern - if still somewhat predictable - Christmas film
Despite the constant references to Die Hard and Love Actually (and the ending referring to them both) I was still far too thick to work out that’s where the film title came from until quite a bit later!!!! 😂

DrFoxtrot · 11/11/2023 23:21

The Christmas Candle

Victorian era/ quaint snowy village ✅
Susan Boyle - questionable acting/ stunning singing ✅
Feel good/ moral theme ✅

😂 you need to watch this. It has provided me and my friends with years worth of entertainment. I am going to have a husband by Easter 🕯️

Mumoftwoboysaged4and5 · 11/11/2023 23:27

Happiest Season with Kristen Stuart is a good one. Less cheesy than your average but still fun. Dan Levy is in it for all the Schitt’s Creek fans out there.

burnoutbabe · 11/11/2023 23:33

@Talisin the listings are there for a few days ahead but say Wednesday is all
"That's Xmas" as the show.

So I probably need to search every few days to find the shows I am after.

popandchoc · 10/11/2023 18:23

Love them . There is someone on tiktok that does 1 min versions of the films , the love interest is always called Luke haha .

I LOVE these. They always make me crack up. I want to see them all on hallmark 😂😂

WidowedMum · 12/11/2023 00:27

I love this thread! Isn’t it weird how most of these films are instantly forgettable but some stick with you? Like the WW2 time travel one, I immediately remembered. Another one is Christmas at the plaza, I can never see a finial tree dec without thinking about that film. But yeah, love them all, look forward to more recommendations.

Talisin · 12/11/2023 01:18

I watched Three Wise Men and a Baby earlier, the sugar plum fairy dance always makes me laugh like a loon. I just looked on youtube to see if they had a clip up and found a live performance of it from a Christmas Convention. I now want to go to a Christmas movie convention.

The Dance of "3 Wise Men & A Baby" at Christmas Con 2022

Tyler Hynes, Andrew Walker & Paul Campbell.

I'm a right hypocrite as I've told my children that we're not doing anything Christmassy until December starts and then the last two nights, when they're in bed, I've watched a Christmas film! But there are just so many and I'm worried I won't get to watch them all if I don't start now!

Last night I watched 'A Knight for Christmas' (or something like that) with Vanessa Hudgens and a time travelling English knight. Who adapted to modern life remarkably easily I felt!

Tonight, I can't even remember what it was called, but Freddie Prinze Jr is in it as a widowed dad with a teen daughter who loves a certain pop star. Said pop star's light is fading a bit, she needs to write a song about Christmas, but her mum died at Christmas so now she just can't get in the mood. But she sees a video by the teen, decides to surprise her and wouldn't you know it, gets stuck in a snowstorm and has to stay with the girl and her dad (who just happens to be a music teacher who writes songs). I actually really enjoyed it! But as a pp said, I really noticed how decorated the house was! Lights, garlands, cushions, trees - everywhere!

FinallyFinalGirl · 12/11/2023 06:35

My absolute favourite is one from around 25 years ago, called The Christmas Box, with Maureen O'Hara, Richard Thomas and Annette O'Toole. It's about a couple and their daughter who move into a wealthy old lady's house to care for her and it's all about the father discovering the importance of family and children.

It isn't shown on TV anymore so I watch it on YouTube every year. It is lovely, and the actors are as brilliant as one would expect.

Yeah, that was rubbish. Turned it off.

@AmyandPhilipfan the Prinze Jr one sounds so good! I must try to catch it when it's on. I'm a sucker for the ones with windows and widowers who find love again.

PawPrintsInMyPansies · 12/11/2023 07:16

Ooo, I love these movies.

a couple of my favourites
are A Christmas Movie Christmas, where the leafs know they’re in a Christmas movie and an older-ish one, Snow Bride. Your every day take of a reporter trapped in a snow drift wearing her best friend’s wedding dress, falling for the person she was writing a story on.

FeltCarrot · 12/11/2023 08:08

DS sometimes catches me watching one and the joke is always to guess how far in to the film someone will suggest baking Christmas cookies.
Kitchens also seem to be decorated! How do Americans find the time to put up all those decorations and where do they store them? (Along with all the halloween stuff!!)

burnoutbabe · 12/11/2023 09:36

@AmyandPhilipfan Christmas with you!
On Netflix! Hurrah!

Eukanuba · 12/11/2023 10:05

Watched single all the way on Netflix yesterday . It has Jennifer Coolidge in it, really enjoyed it as the love interest were two men - which made a change .

SequinsandStiIettos · 12/11/2023 10:15

Saw Single all the way last year - the lead's from Ugly Betty? Enjoyed it.
I am in the minority on here. I love The Family Stone.
Luke Wilson is gorgeous and the scenes with him and SJP are great.
