Have I missed the Hallmark/Netflix/ Amazon prime thread on all those cheesy Prince from (insert unlikely name for snowy European country) meets girl from New York films?

Anyone share my guilty pleasure of these so awful they’re good films?

please tell me I’m not the only one here.

Found this guide to watching hallmark in uk

(It's £4.99pm on prime)

I also love the way her categories of movies is "evil developer" haha.

@VillageFete everytime I watch 'The Christmas Train' last weekend I still end up googling half the cast, even though it's probably been about 3 days since the last time Grin , and I can quote the dialogue
Grin

Raahh · 11/11/2023 10:44

*A Heavenly Christmas that's the one with the bloke from Will and Grace where 'Charlotte' is an angel ? Grin

HellHound · 11/11/2023 11:00

A Gift Wrapped Christmas is like a hug in a mug.

My very macho, grumpy husband also loves these type of films, very much like a snuggly comfort blanket.....but woe betide if they stray from "The Script" and do something rash like get together and kiss too early... he actually shouts at the TV😂

Talisin · 11/11/2023 11:24

@VillageFete I stopped paying attention after last Christmas so I had no idea so many more had defected! Really surprised about Trevor Donovan and Jill Wagner - although a quick google reveals GAF offered TD a producing deal as well. Love that they all get asked about CCB and all say she’s lovely/supportive etc and follow with they don’t necessarily agree with everything she says or that she has been misinterpreted 😆

I don’t know for sure if The Christmas House kicked it all off but the timing seems about right for that to be the case. There’s a sequel, btw.

Talisin · 11/11/2023 11:30

No one has yet mentioned what I consider to be the pinnacle of Hallmarkesque Christmas Movies - The Nine Lives of Christmas. Klutzy heroine, handsome fireman, adorable ginger cat, currently on rotation on That’s Christmas. There’s also a sequel - The Nine Kittens of Christmas (see above but add kittens) which was on C5 last week and on again on 5Select this Wednesday.

I found that's Christmas on sky

But it does not seem to have listings so hard to record from it.

Anyone found listings online?

“A castle for Christmas” with Brooke Shields on Netflix

My absolute favourite- so cheesy but so good. It’s also nice to see a Christmas film with main characters in their late 50s instead of just young people.

VillageFete · 11/11/2023 12:02

@Talisin I’ve followed Great American Families’ Instagram page and can see who has jumped ship 🤣

CCB never ages. She’s gorgeous.

If anyone can find “A Christmas… present” I’d highly recommend it for pure, unadulterated festive saccharine.

GettingStuffed · 11/11/2023 12:05

I watched three the other day and the female lead in each was the same one.

Currently putting off going shopping until Annie Klaus is coming to town.

Tina221 · 11/11/2023 12:10

Thanks for this thread op. I can’t seem to find the That’s Christmas channel and wanted to check is it on freeview? Thanks 😊

I put it on last Xmas. Totally thinking it wouldn't be my cup of tea. How wrong was I. I loved it

This is brilliant!

Other genres include : Amnesia, Magical, British and Single Parent/ Mariah Carey 😂

VillageFete · 11/11/2023 12:36

@Tina221 That’s Christmas is freeview (Number 71 on mine)

It’s a mix of cheesy Christmas movies and all the usual Christmas songs. It’s brilliant!

Raahh · 11/11/2023 12:49

One of my big favourites is 'The Christmas Shepherd'- it manages to include a great pun in the title (it's about German shepherd dog that goes missing , geddit? ) and even though I've seen it loads, I still get irritated by the fact the people who find him at first refuse to give him back. Grin (until the inevitable ending where the all end up happily ever after)

Has all the usual elements of a classic US Hallmark Christmas film- widowed ex military , writer small town woman, meets widowed bloke with child etc. Snow/ hot chocolate/ lots of misunderstandings. Pure cheese.

Hiddenvoice · 11/11/2023 13:01

I love all the cheesy Christmas films. Some are really awful but I’ll still happily enjoy them. Just wish some of the Christmassy towns were real 😂

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 11/11/2023 13:12

I really like 12 Dates of Christmas on Disney.

Annasgirl · 11/11/2023 13:21

Oh I’m joining in OP. I had just said to DD last week that this year we had to start early with the Christmas movies - last year we ran out of time. I love Christmas at the Castle. We have Sky movies - as part of our cost savings it’s going but I’m keeping it for Christmas as we love to all sit together and watch movies over the holidays - and I’ve just found the Christmas section on it.

There is a sky original called This is Christmas which was a 2022 film and is gorgeous- set in London, well a modern London that looks like a Dickens setting!!

I also love old Christmas movies like White Christmas and the original and the remake of Miracle on 34th Street. Excited to see the list to see if I am missing any. DD and I do a ‘The Holiday’ evening every year around mid December to kick of our annual Christmas holiday.

I also have a guilt pleasure in Live Actually although I hate the porn story and the stupid woman who won’t ignore her brother for the sexy colleague.

Edited

I love that one. Even though the second family wants to keep the dog, you can understand why and it evokes sympathy I think. I love the lead actress - so nice to see a 'normal' woman in the lead with messy hair and an old car. And the dog is amazing.

Raahh · 11/11/2023 14:43

@FinallyFinalGirl I think the actress is Teri Polo, and she is really good (and I'm a sucker for films with dogs in Grin).
I get so invested in it, every time I watch- even though I know it's going to work out just fine!

Tina221 · 11/11/2023 14:49

Hi @VillageFete thanks very much for letting me know, I will have a look now. Love cheesy Christmas movies and songs 😊

SequinsandStiIettos · 11/11/2023 15:37

Am now watching Falling for Xmas on Netflix with LiLo and Chord Overstreet.
I blame you guys.
It's Overboard but ski-ing with less charm.

Yes, Teri Polo, that's right. I remember looking her up on IMDB when the movie was on.Halloween Grin I liked the leading man too...again, not the 'typical' sort, but all the better for it.

Raahh · 11/11/2023 16:22

One thing that always gets me, is how decorated the houses are. I watched one the other day- and there were trees in every room of the house. The main character was in her bedroom, and her bed had a tree an either side. And not just small, bedside table trees. 6ft, fully decorated trees.

I mean, we get it, it's ChristmasGrin
