Nuts and some chocolate. Also, two bottles of Aldi’s version of Baileys. One is the normal and one is the white chocolate version.

Diversion · 20/10/2023 20:03

Ordered a turkey crown and joint of beef from the local butcher - most of this is paid for my my bank rewards which I save all year. I have bought tubs of chocolates and boxes of nice biscuits for family members, we do a Secret Santa for the adults now but I like to add a few extra bits. Breadsticks and cheese straws, sauces and pickles, stuffing, cheese biscuits, pigs in blankets, chocolates and fudge to go with the coffee. I also keep my Tesco rewards which I use for extra bits for Christmas each year and we do an M & S shop for crisps and other treats. We do not normally shop there. It's much easier now we only have one adult child living at home who knows not to touch the food and I don't have to label everything "Do not eat"

Raera · 20/10/2023 20:07

Ingredients for pudding and cake which my lovely adult DD has taken away because she wants a go at them
Crack on!!

mondaytosunday · 20/10/2023 20:14

If I buy something now I'd eat it! Hard enough staying away from the Halloween sweets!

Newgolddream70 · 20/10/2023 20:17

I still have last year's Christmas pudding which expires in March 2024 🤣

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/10/2023 19:59

None. Why would I?

@LindorDoubleChoc why would any of us know why you would or wouldn't make any purchases?

Or did you mean a disingenuous "what's the point?" tone to your comment?

Or do you click on every thread which doesn't apply to you and point out that you have no vested interest or contribution to make? Is it like a hobby?

Or do you need help to understand the point behind shopping?

Come now. You've typed out a response so there's a point in there somewhere.

Haaa haaa

Colinswheels · 20/10/2023 20:59

Can I come to yours?

TheIsleOfTheLost · 20/10/2023 21:20

Well thsi thread has made me look and realise that everything I have bought so far is biscuit related. None of which is likely to still be around by Christmas. But we have chocolate elf, chocolate penguin, lebukuchen, gingerbread house kit and musical gingerbread house tin. Seems like a lot when written down!

I bought the Very Merry and Jelly Munches precisely because they have been recommended to me and they sell out before November here. Been trying for a couple of years.

However, I also remembered belatedly that I live a v short drive from the factory which manufactures M&S confectionery and the factory shop sells huge bags of both for £1 each. I considered bulk buying and dealing on the black market.

£1?! I'm so jealous

I've bought the normal merry munch. Twice. Because i ate it Blush

Dates and Camp Coffee for Sticky Toffee Puddings
Peanut Brittle to go on top of trifle

I am sampling my way through Clementine juice (no real favourites) and fresh orange ( Sainsbury in the clear plastic bottle is favourite so far)

Christmas cake. I bought a Sainsbury one £4 or something. It was ok but I might need to relent and bake one then curse myself for bothering . Still looking for a nice supermarket small cake.

I'm doing lists at the moment so plan to buy most of my shopping by end November if I can

TheOwlChronicles · 20/10/2023 21:38

I'll buy my cheese just as soon as I can get the January dates on it. Really recommend the Wookiee Hole cheddar from m and s

I clear a Christmas shelf in the pantry . I have 2 adult dc at home (DH rarely eats sweet things). Sometimes DS hollers “ are these After Eights for Christmas or can I have some now”. .
You’d think he’d know by now (tsk)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/10/2023 21:46

Dillane · 20/10/2023 19:17

You mean you haven’t put them on to boil yet? Arghhh Christmas is ruined 😱

They can go in the pressure cooker. Then finish off in the microwave.
They.ll be fine , maybe a bit chewy but ok simmered in some really hot gravy .

scaremongering poor Fireisland like that…

I haven’t got anything yet but this thread has made me add some things to my shopping list for tomorrow.

Adult DD and I did look at advent calendars last week but we couldn’t see one we really fancied so held off.

I’m not doing advent calendars this year. My kids are animals with no respect for tradition and end up scoffing the lot by 6 December.

People buy Christmas food in October? 😲

I wouldn't have anywhere to store it!

I think that I'm being organised if I've bought something a week in advance!

Yes but Santa might forget to visit if I drink a full one!

ilovemyspace · 21/10/2023 00:53

@Colinswheels Noooo Santa would never forget - he'll probably pace himself and have half before his visit and the rest afterwards .......
