Thanks @snowmanshoes for the title!

Hello everyone, so nice to see you all. Pull up a chair, have a mince pie and a peppermint latte and share your Christmas bargains and ideas. In message two are the links and info from last year - if anyone has anything they'd like me to amend or add, please do tag me and I'll update.

A reminder not to post affiliate links in the thread but that MN do change amazon links shared by posters into MN affiliate links.

Please do watch the thread rather than post to mark place to make it easier for everyone to keep up and find relevant info.

A massive thank you to those who have contributed and/or run the prequel threads this year. I can't believe it's another year! I started these when DD was a baby and she's just gone into Year 8!

We also have the box of Christmas books that come down from the loft on 1st December and we read one a night until Christmas.
Adding the Wintertide Bear and this new one, a You Choose Christmas book:

You Choose Christmas: A new story every time – what will YOU choose? amzn.eu/d/6l6CAXu

We also have The Polar Express, jolly Christmas postman, Alfie's Christmas, the snowman and the snow dog, the night before Christmas, Raymond briggs Father Christmas.

I plan to do this too :) I packed away all our Christmas books last year (my wee girl will be 2)

£8 for Grabolo which I’ve been watching for a while, looks like a nice family game (depending on how you cope with failure…)

shitafrick · 08/09/2023 14:21

The Wintertide Bear is back down to £3.32. Really happy with this & will give to my kids on the 1st Decemeber with their advent calendars.

Grabolo is fab and can get very competitive 🤣

DS is 4 and likes to play his own version where we just take turns at finding them 😊

Myohmyomy · 08/09/2023 16:04

I can really recommend the crafty arts website. I also ordered 3 smart games for £2.59ish each and kersplatt for the same amount. They were their open box offers so I didn’t expect much but the games inside the boxes were perfect and dd won’t mind not having the boxes a bit bashed. I also ordered some nice craft things to do in the run up to Christmas. I ordered yesterday and they came today.

Marshall watch on Amazon is £11.04

SootspriteSearcher · 08/09/2023 17:08

On the topic of Christmas books... we love(d) the dinosaur who pooped Christmas. I'm really childish and it cracks me up everytime 🤣

Other firm favourites, santa needs a wee, Jesus' birthday party, aliens love pantaclaus, there's an elf in your book, dear santa. We have a quite a fe2 others but I can't remember the names now! We've got some random ones from charity shops! 🤣

My dds are 14 and 11, I'm wondering whether they would like the you choose Christmas... their copy of you choose is so dogeared and loved!

BoopK · 08/09/2023 17:37

The Jolly Christmas Postman is my recommendation, lovely interactive book, DD loves opening all the envelopes

SomeFiggyPudding · 08/09/2023 17:58

I love this thread so much! Some amazing ideas and bargains. I’m reining it in this year to what I need….ended up buying lots last year that I could have done without haha

IggyAce · 08/09/2023 18:32

Just caught up, just some feedback with regards to the hot wheels advent calendar the other stuff in it is pretty crap and ended up in the bin. We got ds it about 5 years ago and remember been a bit disappointed and grateful we’d only wasted £10.

Now I’m hoping you lovely lot can help my mum died unexpectedly back in January and in her memory I’d like a tree decoration of her favourite drink (Pepsi max) so if anyone sees one please let me know.

saw these grinch biscuits from home bargains posted on fb earlier, thought they would make a good festive activity.

Sorry for your loss. You could try etsy for pepsi max decorations. I'm not sure they will be discounted but they are usually quite reasonable

Ehunt1 · 08/09/2023 19:12

@WetFlump I had to order speak and spell from the American Amazon and had it shipped here. And it’s as amazing as I remembered it.

SpanishSummer · 08/09/2023 19:14

@IggyAce i can’t see any Pepsi max decorations but could you do a couple of can trees on either side of the mantle piece? I just mean building them up, three on the bottom, then two then one on top.

Seeing a post about heated throws reminded me that I made a note on my notes app that my husband wanted an electric blanket. I got the silent night dual zone one for £46 on Amazon - crazy heatwave shopping!

lemonsmum · 08/09/2023 19:45

@mogtheexcellent thanks for the 24 chapter idea. I did the 24 books when she was younger but now to old for picture books so just kept our favourites. Treated us to Christmas hardbacks last couple of years but struggled . A chapter a night is very manageable and an incentive.

Now I'll be looking through Christmas books for ones with 24 chapters not sure if one you recommended is too young DD is 11.

Fuckingfuckssake · 08/09/2023 19:54

@IggyAce so sorry for your loss.

Icamehomelikeastone · 08/09/2023 20:00

Another idea for pepsi max is that Primark and Claires sell pepsi lipbalms, although I'm not sure if they do pepsi max. It's shaped like a takeaway/fast food cup. You could use that to somehow tie onto the tree or incorporate into your table display

Martinisarebetterdirty · 08/09/2023 20:13

@lemonsmum Noel Streatfeild has a collection of Christmas short stories, perfect for 11 year olds, will be reading them to my DDs again this year.

Redwinestillfine · 08/09/2023 20:13

Petal7 · 08/09/2023 20:18

Thanks for the heads up on the Christmas You Choose - I think my teens and pre teens would love it for the nostalgia value!

Petal7 · 08/09/2023 20:26

@IggyAce - so sorry for your loss. Will look out for said decorations for you.
