This year I’m patting myself on the back - almost all Christmas food has been eaten and it’s the last day of the holidays.

Leftovers as of today:
A sliver of Red Leicester
A big chunk of Gouda
An unopened Brie
A box of crackers
A few Bendicks bitter mints

It will all be eaten in the next 1-2 days, except the Gouda no one wants - I’ll chop it and put it out for the blackbirds.

I’m counting this as zero waste 😊

What helped massively was hosting a little neighbours’ get together on the 28th (hot drinks and all uneaten sweet stuff laid out) - worked like a charm.

We polished off the leftover frozen beige party food yesterday. Still got a fair bit of chocolate and an unopened box of chocolate biscuits, plus crackers and breadsticks knocking about. No rush to finish any of that really. Started easing myself back into normal healthier eating but not going cold turkey!

Squamata · 02/01/2023 16:35

I have three separate opened bottles of Bailey's. I'm not sure that drinking that much Bailey's would be good for me!

Other than that, loads of crackers but no cheese and an opened jar of mincemeat.

Templegate · 02/01/2023 16:37

Nope, we have loads of stuff left, enough chocolate, cake and buscuits to see us through to spring and beyond! I will go through and check the dates on things then we will just eat through it instead of buying any sweets etc until it is done.

Favouritefruits · 02/01/2023 16:46

Boxes upon boxes of chocolates and selection boxes left, a tub of Pringles and a tub of mini cheddars left but I’ll probably bin those as nobody likes them.

Plenty of gammon left, and lots of chocolates.
No mince pies alas. I’m seriously thinking of making some more (it’s still Christmas until 6th Jan after all 🎄) since there are 2 different half jars of mincemeat to use up. They’d keep until next year (speaking from experience) but I could do with the cupboard space anyway.

I've made mince pies and then I've frozen them in batches as we all like them and his pastry left over and a randome jar of mincemeat

@7Worfs
The Gouda if you grate this up you can freeze it to go on top of lasagne/ shepherds pie or even in an omelette - it's a bit tasteless on its own but fine on top of something

Zippedydoo123 · 02/01/2023 16:53

Do try to drop off unopened food at the local food bank or supermarket where they have the bin for donated items.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/01/2023 16:55

Still 2 (sealed) boxes of After Eights and 3 Terrys Chocolate Oranges but my asult DC will take care of them

Christmas Flippin' Pudding which was BBD March 2022 (its been in the Pantry at least 3 years . Might risk it )

2 cartons of custard
Half an apple crumble (cooked yesterday , we'll eat it tonight)

Homemade Sticky Toffee Pudding and Brownies in the freezer

Sadly no white stilton , that was delicious , bought in Waitrose deli .

Gew bottle of Fentiman Ginger Beer

About 60% of the Christmas Cake ( I made it ) only I eat it though

Box of Mince Pies

I’m starting my diet today. All chocolate (an embarrassing amount) and crisps are going to be stored in the garage so I won’t be tempted in my weaker moments. Gammon is in the freezer and I finished off nuts and other bits yesterday.

Angelicapickles1 · 02/01/2023 17:03

Just thrown out the leftover cranberry and bread sauce. We have one tub of mixed chocolate left and a pack of after eights. Not too bad compared to some years as really cut back on the snack buying

Autumntimeagain · 02/01/2023 17:19

Just made stovies with some of the left over beef today, and frozen the rest of it to have another weekend so won't need to cook a roast.
Still have some big bags of crisps, 3 dips and a few packs of choccy biscuits, which will be used up over the next week with visitors etc

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/01/2023 17:45

We still have loads of various treats and nibbles, so I got dh to drop off a fancy Christmas tin of shortbread at the food bank today. It was a present, so now it’s a present for someone else.

Libre55 · 02/01/2023 17:46

Our local food bank is getting a delivery this week of 8 boxes of fortnum and mason biscuits, and 2 Christmas puddings. And boxes of matchmakers and boxes of jelly babies. Diet starts next Monday!

BestIsWest · 02/01/2023 17:56

We have a tin of Quality street unopened and a box of matchmakers. Loads of cheese and nuts. I’ll be low carbing soon so they will go.
DS had flu so failed to finish his Vienetta this year and I froze the extra pigs in blankets I bought for him.

7Worfs · 02/01/2023 18:21

@OhIdoLike2bBesideTheSeaside thank you for the tip! Now that you mention it, I think I’ll just make cottage pie tomorrow and use it up in it. 😊

We have
4 tubs of celebrations
3 tubs of heroes
2 tubs of quality street
2 tubs of roses
6 boxes of biscuits
A full Christmas cake
A full pudding
1 bag of pretzels
A pandoro
1 box of crisps
3 bags of nuts
Multiple selection boxes
Loads of sweets dc got
We've eaten all the dinner stuff, all savory food gone. No waste there. I will donate most if not all of the above.

evemillbank · 02/01/2023 18:39

Not at all!

Lilibert456 · 02/01/2023 18:41

Lots left. Covid over Christmas and no appetite. Managed to cook lunch on the day but the waste disposal ate most of it. It was downhill from then on.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/01/2023 18:51

28 mince pies out of the oven in the last hour, all mincemeat now gone.
I dare say they might just last past 12th Night, but there’s another 🐷in the house besides me.

Solmum1964 · 02/01/2023 18:57

We were away for Christmas so hadn't got much in. We did have a Christmas pudding that I'd bought last year (if not before) in case Christmas plans changed at short notice again! We had that for pudding one evening last week after I'd managed to get another couple for less than half price in Tesco.
Went for another top up shop today and they were down to 60p each so bought another couple and a couple of Belgian chocolate bombes for 75p each. Will provide cheap puddings over the next few months.
Finally opened the Christmas cake yesterday after the mince pies had been finished and DH is slowly working his way through the shortbread and chocolates he received as presents.

Solmum1964 · 02/01/2023 18:59

Oh and I bought a jar of mincemeat before Christmas. That will go in a mincemeat and apple pie at some point too!

paintitallover · 02/01/2023 19:02

We have plenty of cheese, cheese biscuits and mince pies. Turkey legs in freezer. Sent ds back to uni with chocolates , 2 biscuit tins and other naughty goodies today. His flatmates will eat if if he doesn't want to.

AdmiralJaneway · 02/01/2023 19:13

Still have a couple of boxes of biscuits and quite a few chocolates. The Christmas dinner leftovers got turned into pasties and the last one was eaten yesterday.

English Heritage suggests we should leave decorations up until Candlemas which is February so we’ve got plenty of time left!

English Heritage linky.

Yogity · 02/01/2023 19:39

We have some pigs in blankets and some churros in the freezer. We will probably have both at the weekend with a roast/for dessert.

Aside from that we just have the selection box and milkybar/dairymilk buttons that toddler DD was gifted.

We've been to the butchers and greengrocer today and our Tesco delivery comes tomorrow. Back to normal 😫

mathanxiety · 02/01/2023 19:51

Half a Brie and some Aldi truffles, plus half a chocolate orange.

I know there's a slice of pecan pie somewhere in the fridge, but it's evading me very cunningly right now.
