This year I’m patting myself on the back - almost all Christmas food has been eaten and it’s the last day of the holidays.

Leftovers as of today:
A sliver of Red Leicester
A big chunk of Gouda
An unopened Brie
A box of crackers
A few Bendicks bitter mints

It will all be eaten in the next 1-2 days, except the Gouda no one wants - I’ll chop it and put it out for the blackbirds.

I’m counting this as zero waste 😊

What helped massively was hosting a little neighbours’ get together on the 28th (hot drinks and all uneaten sweet stuff laid out) - worked like a charm.

I hate threads like this because I am now about to have a warm mice pie with some Baileys extra thick cream and I would not have done so, and all because of this thread
So thanks from my ever expanding waistline to all who posted🙎

Sorted out my various cheese. I’ve put by whatever chocolate / sweets will keep. Last bit of cake today!

Ellie56 · 02/01/2023 12:44

@Pterrydactyl I've frozen cheddar cheese before now and it was fine. I grated it beforehand though. I think you could freeze any hard cheese. Not sure about the softer ones.

ApplePippa · 02/01/2023 12:49

I've just polished off the last of the stilton for lunch. We're back to just normal cheddar in the fridge now. One box of unopened crackers, but they will keep.

Some Christmas cake which will be finished at tea time.

Three lonely coconut bounties, left all alone in the celebrations tin.

WrappedInRed · 02/01/2023 12:50

Ours are mainly loads of chocolate either us or the kids got gifted as presents! Think it'll last us until Easter!

Food wise, got a wee bit of cheese left and an unopened box of mince pies.

purpletowelette · 02/01/2023 12:55

I just sorted out the fridge.

So. Much. Cheese.

But everything else has gone, phew!

Now to start working through the freezer

zingally · 02/01/2023 13:00

Apart from the mountains of chocolate - which typically, no one wants any of when there's loads of it in the house, then they beg for it when there's none - we've just got 3 mini Boursin cheeses, which I'd bought on a total whim, thinking they'd be nice spread on bagels.
I'm thinking I'll melt them into a pasta sauce later in the week. They're dated to the end of January, so I've got time.

47times11 · 02/01/2023 13:01

I had a large ham that \i mean to cook for NYE. It is in the freezer. Other than that everything has been used and next to nothing thrown away.

FestivePinkFairy · 02/01/2023 13:03

A few mini Green and Blacks chocolate bars
A small bowl of Quality Street
An unopened box of Fox's biscuits
Assorted bags of nuts
Unopened mince pies
Loads of booze

Diet starts tomorrow so I will take it all into work where it will get hoovered up by colleagues.

Tereseta · 02/01/2023 13:03

We got a meat hamper from the butchers for the first time this year and have 1 beef joint and 2 pork joints left in the freezer. We also have three bags of pretzels as dh kept buying them for some unknown reason.

Thanks, that’s good to know.

I think I’ll have a proper look at the cheese tonight with a view to keeping some pieces out for January, and freezing most of it.

Parky04 · 02/01/2023 13:06

Just eaten the last bit- a nice piece of Stilton. I'm now all cheesed out!

dudsville · 02/01/2023 13:06

We've put come savoury things in the freezer. But we still have mince pies, chocolate panettone, fruit panettone and cheeses. We'll finish these in a few weeks. I always wonder why I don't lose weight during dry january - this is why!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 02/01/2023 13:08

Mostly except we hosted a party on the 30th and have enough crisps left over to feed the whole village 😂.

WhereIsMyRollingPin · 02/01/2023 13:12

Everything I would eat has gone but DH has another half dozen mince pies to get through.

There are some unopened fancy crisps but I've put them away until a birthday later this month.

Moltenpink · 02/01/2023 13:13

I’ve put a large bag for life full of chocolate & biscuits in the garage, to be brought out through the year

Bag of turkey in the freezer

Whole homemade Christmas cake, I only made it a few weeks ago though so it’s fine

Loads of cheese! Going to take cheese & biscuits to work all week. Also just have some parsnip soup on the go in the slow cooker, also for lunches.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 02/01/2023 13:15

Just Christmas cake. The leftover turkey has been made into soup, pie and curry and frozen. Ham sliced and frozen for sandwiches etc, stock made into pea and ham soup. Sprouts and parsnips made into gratins. I’ve been channelling my inner Ma Ingalls. Chocolate biscuits finished off in a binge last night while watching TV 😳 ( not Ma Ingalls).

RedToothBrush · 02/01/2023 13:18

The fridge is empty.
The freezer is emptying.
There is no more cheese.

However I have no dishwasher tabs left and a mountain dirty dishes to go. So I need to go shopping.

This means I'm liable to come home with stuff I don't need.

Oh and I have a ton of chocolate left. I have barely touched the chocolate. I genuinely think we have enough chocolate to last us to easter as I've got to lose the cheese weight and I'm having work done on my teeth atm.

Blueberrycreampie · 02/01/2023 13:18

We have an unopened fruit cake, 2 Christmas puddings, some chocolate, a large hunk of Stilton and some truffled Cheddar. Nothing that will go off anytime soon so I'm not too bothered.

Quizzed · 02/01/2023 13:19

I've got a fair bit left over but only because I had covid and didn't eat as much as normal and didn't have any alcohol at all.
I opened a lovely bottle of rose yesterday and will be finishing that later today. I'm going to enjoy the rest of the chocolates/biscuits and general Christmas treats throughout January.

Blueberrycreampie · 02/01/2023 13:19

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/01/2023 11:32

Plenty of gammon left, and lots of chocolates.
No mince pies alas. I’m seriously thinking of making some more (it’s still Christmas until 6th Jan after all 🎄) since there are 2 different half jars of mincemeat to use up. They’d keep until next year (speaking from experience) but I could do with the cupboard space anyway.

Just remembered I have some lovely mince pies in the freezer!

GoodbyeLondon · 02/01/2023 13:21

Still have some cheese left from a selection box thing, some mince pies and a lot of chocolate.

Iamblossom · 02/01/2023 13:21

Some chocolate.
That's it.

I've just had to go food shopping!

I really really do not like the sound of that! Grin

LemonDrizzles · 02/01/2023 13:24
  • dried fruit, peel and glace cherries (just made a bread and butter pudding from this)
  • children choc from stocking
  • just opened a gift hamper - working through including an unopened box of mince pies.
  • gift luxury choc (hopefully another week or so)
