I've just sent DH and DSs to the supermarket to hunt for bargains! What will they come back with?

According to my DSis, Asda are giving veg away for free right now. I'm hoping he will find a 10p luxury turkey for New year!

I'm weirdly invested in finding out what they get and I will be most put out if it's a bag of sprouts and some stuffing.

I had a relative who worked Xmas Eve at Tesco, he always got a bargain turkey, ham and all the veg. Don’t think I would rely on it, most turkeys are dated 26 December.

KirstenBlest · 24/12/2022 17:31

I went to the local big supermarket (ends in o), and I got a full basket of things for christmas. The 19p broccoli and carrots had gone and there were no eggs.

MyEasterEggs · 24/12/2022 17:37

My mum nipped to shops today to get the whole Christmas dinner 😅 talk about cutting it fine…but she’s delighted. Everything half price 🤩 and says the turkey, ham and trimmings look lovely!

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 24/12/2022 17:46

I got a half price turkey for £17 from M&S this afternoon. Was tempted to back at teatime to see what else was reduced but got in my pjs then couldn’t face going back out.

thesnailandthewhale · 24/12/2022 17:49

Just been to Sainsburys (hadn't got ds any beer), I had a quick look just to see and they still had loads of Xmas food, there were two full displays of turkeys, all yellow stickered ... most were £65 reduced to £63 ConfusedGrin

LeeHarper5 · 24/12/2022 18:09

My friends local Tesco were giving turkey crowns away for free this afternoon.

ForFiveMinutes · 24/12/2022 18:17

My son is on his way back from Tesco with a £7 turkey, there were other bargains but I’m a bit short on fridge space tonight!

crackofdoom · 24/12/2022 18:25

Was delighted to find some raspberries in Coop for 45p. They'll go nicely in our pancakes tomorrow morning. Was also persuaded to get some chocolate doughnuts for 44p, which was probably a bad idea in retrospect...😬

ThingsChristmasJumper · 24/12/2022 18:27

Dh got two turkeys this afternoon for under £4 each. We’re defrosting last years’ bargain one currently ffs.

MermaidEyes · 24/12/2022 18:37

My guess is a lamb rogan josh ready meal, gluten free bread, 2 toffee yoghurts and a carton of skimmed milk...am I right? 😆

Doyouthinktheyknow · 24/12/2022 18:38

They were giving away broccoli in our local Asda according to Facebook. Couldn’t persuade me off the sofa🤣🤣

2tired2bewitty · 24/12/2022 18:44

Sainsbury’s had a whole salmon for £7.50, sadly I don’t think it would fit in our freezer.

Why would you not just say "I went to the big tesco"? Confused

Greenshake · 24/12/2022 18:49

Bargains were very hard to come by here today. The last few years we have always come out with bags full, but this year, pretty much nothing!

Demento · 24/12/2022 18:52

I went to our local M&S food and got posh mozzarella balls for 47p x 2, deli coleslaw for 30p, three bags of baby spinach for 15p each and a massive double cream for 62p plus bbq chicken things for £1.28. Dinner was lovely!

DelilahBucket · 24/12/2022 18:54

Watching with far too much interest! Wish I'd done this today but fridge full and freezer already full with other stuff I've been stocking up all month. Going to be living on too good to go bags in January!

Thelondonone · 24/12/2022 19:16

In my very middle class, west london Waitrose….. a black eye.

cptartapp · 24/12/2022 19:20

Not so good in our local small Sainsburys. I came back with two packs of minced pork for 75p for the freezer and a 45p Brie and cranberry sandwich for DS1 tea after work.
Currently defrosting last years bargain luxury yulelog for tomorrow.

🤣👊🏻

Ouch.

Xtraincome · 24/12/2022 19:41

I need to know what they found OP!

artishard · 24/12/2022 19:44

Got an absolute haul of yellow sticker food from Waitrose around 3pm. Mostly party food bits, pate, dips and cheeses. Somehow still spent 50 quid but certainly won't be going hungry!

closingscore · 24/12/2022 19:44

Our local food share group has just posted on fb and they have a huge mountain of stuff including some duchy organic turkeys from Waitrose - the price on them is over £100 😳
