According to my DSis, Asda are giving veg away for free right now. I'm hoping he will find a 10p luxury turkey for New year!

My money is on Sainsbo or Waitro. Or Aldo.

Could be Netto

Got too good to go bags x 2 ended up with 32 mince pies! And not much else

My Too Good To Go bag has just sorted the roast potatoes, veggies and red cabbage for tomorrow, plus various fruit and salads for the next few days. Bit nervous about leaving it that late, but I’d some stuff in the freezer in case I got the 32 mince pies!

PicturesOfLily · 24/12/2022 21:23

I went to Coop earlier for bread and milk but also picked up 2 margarita pizzas for 60p each down from £3 each and a bolognese pasta bake for 91p down from £4 odd. Not quite the bargains some got but I was quite pleased! They’re in the freezer for an easy meal at some point over the next 2 weeks 😋

Wheredoallthepensgo · 24/12/2022 21:27

I nipped into our local M&S for cream and got a massive bag of Brussel sprouts for 7p Grin

OhIdoLike2bBesideTheSeaside · 24/12/2022 21:42

I got in our Waitrose near closing time 5 boxes of 2 lamb shanks for 99p a box instead of £9.99!!

They're currently in my oven roasting as I can't for them in my freezer so I'll take the meat off the bones and then get the leftover veg tomorrow and make a curry with them to freeze 🥶 I'm very happy

Echobelly · 24/12/2022 21:42

A red polyester negligee and a Lynx gift set?

BashfulClam · 24/12/2022 21:50

I went to a small M&S local half an hour before closing. Loads of reduced turkeys and veg available.

Riverlee · 24/12/2022 21:53

wishing I hadn’t brought a turkey yesterday now!

Why would you not just say "I went to the big tesco"? Confused

Because it's the famous Morrison's with the faulty wiring - everyone round here knows that.

shard5 · 24/12/2022 22:08

Our local Asda do this every year at around 4:30. They normally have carrots, parsnips, sprouts and tangerines with a sign saying please feel free to take but leave some for others too.
Plus in the fridge area there's normally meat stuff as well all reduced. We only eat halal so no use to us but I always grab a bag of carrots to carrot cake in the holidays.

Worriere · 24/12/2022 22:10

30p pigs in blankets here! I was right place right time. Went back to get more on my way out and they were all gone.

Bearblue26 · 24/12/2022 22:11

I got a free Turkey from Aldi this evening, worth £44 full price!

Cordeliathecat · 24/12/2022 22:14

Went to sainsburys today at 4pm due to last minute change of plans and now having Christmas at home. I left £270 lighter. No bargains to be had!

Moonflower12 · 24/12/2022 22:32

We went in our local Aldi at lunchtime. Very quiet and we got a £36 turkey for about £4. And some much reduced sides.
We'd decided to be fluid about we'd have for dinner tomorrow so we're pleasantly surprised to get our turkey.

TheHauntedPencilCase · 24/12/2022 22:36

We usually fill the freezer on Christmas eve with supermarket bargains but only found yoghurts today!

QueenOfHiraeth · 24/12/2022 22:40

I went to M&S and Tesco here about 2pm, nothing reduced at all :(

anon2022anon · 24/12/2022 22:41

Lidl had reduced all large meats/ fish joints to £10, so got a £48 turkey crown. The lady behind me was very happy with her £28 turkey crown until she saw mine 😂 couple of fish/ chicken dinner things for 30 + 60% off.

Aldi had reduced the shelf prices of stuff by 50%, then meats had 75% off, so bought a hog roast and a load of trimmings for dinner on the 27/28th.

Went in m&s at 2pm, it was packed with people doing a full shop. I've never seen a Christmas eve so busy. Nothing dated the 26th was marked down- still fridges full of full price turkeys.

CakeCrumbs44 · 24/12/2022 22:57

Last year we got a turkey from Waitrose for about £5. This year I couldn't be bothered to go out, our freezer is totally full (not even of a Christmas stuff) so even if I had found some bargains I wouldn't have been able to buy them - and that's even worse than not finding them in the first place!

Poinsettas · 24/12/2022 23:00

was in M&S Food just for milk and couldn’t believe the reductions at 9am. Turkeys not on sale but loads of hams, beefs, nice looking pies and sides (can’t eat due to allergies).

Had most things but ended up getting 60% off seafood platter/starter bits that had 2-3 days on them so presume they’re either shut Boxing Day or think if people don’t buy now they’re not going out again. If you have the time
and can brace possibly not having everything, Xmas Eve shopping is the way to go.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 24/12/2022 23:05

My friend went to Waitrose earlier and picked up a £60 turkey for £7. I’m so jealous, I love a bargain. We’re having ham anyway.

Penguinsaregreat · 24/12/2022 23:06

We went to Aldi earlier hardly anything reduced only tons of mushrooms!
The sets of cheeses were slightly reduced but had a use by date of the 27th December.

HowzAboutIt · 24/12/2022 23:22

Was being really smug this year as I have 2 DC that work in M and S food hall! Thought I would be inundated with free goodies after their shifts today.

Not a ruddy thing, apart from some gorgeous roses. Sadly not the chocolate kind. Gutted

jetadore · 24/12/2022 23:26

I know this thread is lighthearted and it’s not really the point, but the thought of the amounts of food that must be getting wasted in the midst of all this is really appalling.

@wibblewobbleball no intention here of being catty, I'm just genuinely fascinated as to why the answer to your question actually matters to you?

🙃

HamBone · 24/12/2022 23:43

We have seafood on Christmas Eve so I nipped out to get shrimp and clams at 4:30 and the tabletop Christmas trees were marked down to $1 from $50 (yes, we’re in the US)! So I grabbed one and set it up on the porch with some lights.

we’ve done this in the past but trees were so expensive this year that I couldn’t justify buying a second one.

It looks so festive!🎄🎄
