Ok courtesy of the Xmas bargains thread I have a lovely Hotel Chocolat wreath of chocolates plus the usual chocolate nuts etc. when do you all officially open them? . Is it Xmas day or are you all munching on them now.
All those boxes of roses/quality street etc . When do they get opened in your house?
My DH keeps asking if we can open them but I have been resisting but I am thinking today is the day as I am finished work now . What about everyone else?

Christmas Eve here. If we have guests before Christmas then I get them out then, but generally for our family - Christmas Eve is time to open the Christmas treats!

pizzaHeart · 23/12/2022 10:09

I opened some chocolate already.

OneFrenchEgg · 23/12/2022 10:10

Opened last Saturday when doing tree at insistence of kids. Two tubs down in 24 hours have stopped and hidden in room 😀

RoseMartha · 23/12/2022 10:12

When I was married my husband insisted we didn't open them until Christmas Eve, then we would be eating them until Easter because he would also insist we needed loads.

Now I buy much less, I haven't even bought a selection box this year. Teens have a large box of malteasers each and I got myself a chocolate orange, I also got things like cake and biscuits and savoury snacks. We usually get given chocolate as well.

I saw it all sitting there last weekend after school closed for Christmas and decided we would start eating it now.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 23/12/2022 10:16

I had Celebrations for breakfast 😂.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 23/12/2022 10:17

I haven't bought any chocolates this year. I usually get given some (no complaints!) and the DC's stockings have plenty. I will probably crack open the Christmas cake this evening, purely to check in good time that it's edible of course. And maybe some pringles and nuts too...

SquirrelSoShiny · 23/12/2022 10:21

I sneakily opened the Pringles last night 😈

Beamur · 23/12/2022 10:23

Get them open!

Bluegingerbread · 23/12/2022 10:24

Today!

Cocopogo · 23/12/2022 10:25

Oh I missed the hotel chocolat bargain. Is it too late to get one? ….<misses point of thread>

Dougieowner · 23/12/2022 10:26

Started a couple of days ago.

Experience has shown that if we put it off until Christmas Eve then they last well beyond Christmas week and the novelty has worn off.

silverclock222 · 23/12/2022 10:26

Ate my obligatory slice of toast then scoffed half a Terry's Chocolate Orange as a breakfast chaser. Get em opened!

Everydayaschoolday · 23/12/2022 10:28

Once school’s out!

washingmachineheart · 23/12/2022 10:29

As soon as the pre-Christmas shop is unpacked! We’ve tried waiting until Christmas day but end up forcing down mince pies in January when the mood’s thoroughly vanished

tealandteal · 23/12/2022 10:30

I have some saved for Christmas Day but once the school holidays started we’ve had other bits and pieces open.

Spanielsarepainless · 23/12/2022 10:32

We've polished off several tubs of Heroes and loads of mince pies in the past month or so, and DH made inroads into the smoked salmon yesterday lunchtime. But generally Christmas Eve is when the starting gun gets fired for indulging in Christmas comestibles.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 23/12/2022 10:32

Opened the chocolates last night and had a shortbread with my cup of tea this morning, I love shortbread but for some reason only have it during Christmas.

Ragwort · 23/12/2022 10:32

Errr ... opened & finished some already so have had to stock up Grin .

MummyInTheNecropolis · 23/12/2022 10:34

Top tier treats are not opened until Christmas Eve (posh chocolates, expensive biscuits, Yule log). Lower stakes items have already been on the go for a few days (panettone, mince pies, quality street).

We take our Christmas snacking seriously in this house and have a strict hierarchy of treats Grin.

I applaud you! This made me smile a happy smile 😂

Reindear · 23/12/2022 10:39

Last night because school finished yesterday. Kids were overjoyed when I said we could open the Christmas fanta 😂

IAmDeborah · 23/12/2022 10:42

06:15 this morning I let my 4YO crack open the Christmas treats chocolates tin.... I am a terrible mother!

Adventadventures · 23/12/2022 10:43

@Cocopogo Sorry that bargain was back in November . These chocolates have been sat in my living room for a long time now, tempting me.
I am loving the hierarchy on Xmas treats!

I haven't bought any "Christmas chocolates", though I did get a couple of bars of chocolate from Lidl a couple of days ago - and have eaten half a bar already! Once chocolate is in the house, I tend to eat it. If it's not there, I don't really miss it. So in general I rarely buy the stuff.

Notonyournellykelly · 23/12/2022 10:45

Usually when guests arrive, which is Christmas Eve in our house. Although, I did open some Christmas wine last night and don't feel bad about it!
