Weirdest thing you've wrapped up for your kids?

Or anyone really I suppose!

I've just wrapped up a massive (800g I think) bottle of Heinz ketchup for my kid! We've had to cut costs recently and have been trying various own brands (of which none come close to the real thing so far, according to DS) so I thought I'd treat him for Xmas. Don't worry he has some proper gifts too 😂

What's the oddest thing you've found yourself wrapping up?

A bag of those pink sweet shrimps
Because my brother once got nipped by one and it become a running joke

RoastyChestnuts · 23/12/2022 07:51

@Dedontdodatderdode i should have said a vintage style wood & rubber plunger! He plays the trumpet and saw someone using one like a mute at a jazz concert.

@anxiousatnight

Completely missing the point of the thread- but aren't all tape measures retractable?

NO!

Tilllly · 23/12/2022 08:23

A ball of string!

He was about 5 and that's what he asked for
He was soooooo excited

DS is 14 and obsessed with maps, flags and wars.
So he has two massive flags to add to his collection, several modern and vintage map books, (he likes looking for changes over the years and landmasses that are renamed) and a book of world war 2 in pictures (in my defense, that is his next GCSE history topic so will be handy).

@ReformedWaywardTeen A bit late for Christmas, but I recommend a book called "Fighting through Hitler's Germany " by Mark Forsdike. It's personal memories of soldiers of the Suffolk Regiment, and includes my Dad's description of how soldiers go to the toilet during battles!

Frozen peas
Patterned toilet roll
A whole edam
Spam
Halloumi

A tin of black cherries for a dd who loved them. They were in her stocking, from Father Christmas.

Packs of tissues.

My 12 year old daughter has asked for a (fancy) coat hanger this year. She isn't getting one, at least not for Christmas.

Why isn't she getting the coat hanger?
You could have some fun with that - home decorated/personalized - bet she'd love it!

A Pritt Stick

Argh! This has just reminded me that DD has asked Santa for a packet of BluTak, thank you!

It wasn't a weird present or anything but I now can hardly believe that I spent ages wrapping....

a hula hoop.

I cut off loads of strips of wrapping paper to wind round and round it.
By the end, what I had was a red and green, glittery hula hoop instead of a blue one.
Like she wouldn't guess what it was if it was wrapped 🤦‍♀️

On first reading this I thought you had wrapped a single hula hoop crisp! 🤣🤣

MyKidsAreKnobsInDecember · 23/12/2022 08:41

Now I've read the full thread I see that BluTak isn't an uncommon Christmas request 😀

Hellmans ketchup is a hit in our house atm

mumonthehill · 23/12/2022 08:48

Well this year I have wrapped 2 boxes of shark shaped cereal for both ds, they are 15 and 22 so hope they get the joke!! For df a cheese that has the same name as his dog!!!

ThisIsTrifficult · 23/12/2022 08:51

Back scratcher for my DD! She's been asking for one all year. Bugger to wrap with the prongs.

Ah! Yes, I can see how you think that with all the food references.

My parents did put a (wrapped) tin of snails in my stocking when I was about 11 because I'd said I wanted to try them.
I think I agree with Miss Piggy:
"The garlic butter sauce they come with is divine, so now I order "Escargots" but tell them to hold the snails".

Paddingtonthebear · 23/12/2022 08:57

Wrapped Blu-Tac for my 10yr old yesterday. Also wrapped a pack of rubber bands a few years ago

Inkythemouse · 23/12/2022 09:05

A rubber duck that's got reindeer antlers for ds2. Last years rubber duck was in full combat uniform. He's a strange child 😂

tiaratree · 23/12/2022 09:33

DS once had a big bottle of soy sauce.

3 year of stood in front of Santa and asked for a Cucumber for Xmas - nothing else, even refused to take the gift offered by Santa Xmas Hmm

I've just told my 3 year old daughter about your child asking for a cucumber! She got all excited and said I want to ask father Christmas for a watermelon 🍉! So looks like I'm going out to get a watermelon today! She is obsessed with them! When we go shopping so makes sense for her to say it , made me laugh!

spiderlight · 23/12/2022 09:53

Mine once got a huge catering-sized bottle of Biscoff sauce. He was over the moon!

A cable for a PC screen.

DS asked for a new screen and we had to buy a separate cable for it. Wasn’t quite sure what else to do with it!

SisyphusDad · 24/12/2022 23:57

A wooden jointed artist's hand.

I'm going to tell him that, as he's left for uni this year, he might like a hand.

Ba-boom 🙄

Donald trump loo roll - we joke that DS (14) is our loo roll monitor - he likes to fill up the holders in the bathrooms Grin

A tape measure for DS (19). He's loved tape measures since he was tiny, always messing around measuring things. So we've bought him his own and a screwdriver rachect (sp?) set Grin
