Weirdest thing you've wrapped up for your kids?

Or anyone really I suppose!

I've just wrapped up a massive (800g I think) bottle of Heinz ketchup for my kid! We've had to cut costs recently and have been trying various own brands (of which none come close to the real thing so far, according to DS) so I thought I'd treat him for Xmas. Don't worry he has some proper gifts too 😂

What's the oddest thing you've found yourself wrapping up?

DD 13y has safety pins on her Christmas list this year, because you never know when you will need one

Zimtsterne · 22/12/2022 22:40

Not wrapped yet, but today I bought two boxes of the cereal I always refuse to buy because it's basically just chocolate, going to wrap it for them as a joint present Xmas Smile

My mum once gave me a wrapped shoebox full of my favourite pesto she'd bought when it was on offer. That was a GREAT present!

DS is 14 and obsessed with maps, flags and wars.
So he has two massive flags to add to his collection, several modern and vintage map books, (he likes looking for changes over the years and landmasses that are renamed) and a book of world war 2 in pictures (in my defense, that is his next GCSE history topic so will be handy).

A big box of band aids for a 3-year-old who always demanded a plaster for any real or pretend ailment

TotallyScouting · 22/12/2022 22:47

Meat tenderiser and angle bead (decorating item he’d seen our builder use!)

Soakitup37 · 22/12/2022 22:48

When my 4 yo was obsessed with sellotape and I was sick of cutting it up for him to use so I brought him one of those office heavy weight tape dispenser/cutter. Weighted down the stocking for sure. He loved it, still gets frequent use too by the whole family - value for money that!

Daffodilsandtuplips · 22/12/2022 22:52

A sellotape dispenser and a lint roller for my 12 year old gs.
Last year he got a box of Ringtons tea, hot chocolate and shortbread.
He gets other present too.

Judellie · 22/12/2022 22:52

A pencil with a rubber on the end. All he asked for. Got him a pack of 20. Another time all he wanted was 'to drive past the tip.'

Maya678 · 22/12/2022 22:55

I didn’t wrap them, but my Asd little boy is ice mad, so Santa left him to big bags of ice cubes in the freezer-fresh from the North Pole! It was his favourite present and he got an iPad that year!

diamondsandrose · 22/12/2022 22:56

Not that weird but ordered DS15 a jar of Nutella in my Tesco order as I don't normally buy it.

Must have been out of stock in the size of jar I ordered so Tesco substituted it with one more than double the size for the same price it's honestly enormous, he is going to be delighted 😀

momonpurpose · 22/12/2022 23:11

My nephew now 16 at4 asked me for a block of cheddar cheese.

When I was newly married I wrapped myself up in wrapping paper as a joke.

You have no idea how difficult that was Grin

LaMarschallin · 22/12/2022 23:22

It wasn't a weird present or anything but I now can hardly believe that I spent ages wrapping....

a hula hoop.

I cut off loads of strips of wrapping paper to wind round and round it.
By the end, what I had was a red and green, glittery hula hoop instead of a blue one.
Like she wouldn't guess what it was if it was wrapped 🤦‍♀️

Wiloswisp · 22/12/2022 23:33

10 pump tubes of toothpaste. My dad had a craft thing he was making and he wanted tubes.

TheArtfulStodger · 23/12/2022 00:03

Christmas Dinner flavour pot noodle

Oreo cereal

Vimto in different flavours

Packet of flaming hot doritos

Chocolate spread

Blutack

MammaPee · 23/12/2022 00:15

This year it was ghost peppers - on my 20 year old DS's gift list!

CoffeeChocolateWine · 23/12/2022 00:17

A few years ago my then 3yo asked for 'dry day prickles'. It took a good while to work out that these were in fact dried apricots and the reason she asked for them was because she had watched an episode of Danger-mouse where a unicorn was fed dried apricots and then started farting rainbows! My DD was hoping they would have the same effect on her! So I bought her dried apricots and designed my own label with 'Dry day prickles' on it and a picture of a unicorn farting rainbows 😂

Aftersevens · 23/12/2022 00:29

I’ve just wrapped two cactuses (cacti?).
Very prickly ones.
There is blood on the wrapping paper.

SlowDog · 23/12/2022 00:33

When my son was 3, wrapped up a "Wet Floor" sign (he used to really like them for some reason) to give him as a birthday present.

Howyoualldoworkme · 23/12/2022 00:38

A toast rack for my (then) 5 year old son. They had toast racks at a B&B we stayed at in York and he thought they were wonderful so I bought him his own for a silly Christmas gift.
He's 30 now and still has it and uses it 🙂

Whyismycatanasshat · 23/12/2022 00:43

I am yet to wrap but will be wrapping two festive scrub daddy scrubbers for the scrub daddy obsessed 4 year old. Honestly he gets the shower screen sparkling each bath time. Well, the bottom half he can reach anyways!

@anxiousatnight

Completely missing the point of the thread- but aren't all tape measures retractable?

No you get fabric ones used by dress makers, taylors and knitters that you roll up.

Rainbowshit · 23/12/2022 01:14

Blackcurrant juice for DD. I did not think it was a particularly rare or special thing in our house but it was on her list so...

FelicityBeedle · 23/12/2022 02:08

I’ve got my mother a sheep skull with horns! I found on a walk. She’s going to be over the moon

When dc were little I used to get them the packs of kelloggs mini variety cereal boxes. They thought they were an amazing treat and they looked impressive wrapped up 🙂

My mum used to do the same thing! They were a real treat, as we usually had porridge or toast for breakfast!
