My partner of 4 years really upsets me when it comes to Christmas presents.

This year he went to a local DIY shop for my Christmas gift. He bought me 30 Christmas teddies. Spent 160 and is shocked and annoyed that I’m not happy with it.

I keep telling him if he got one it would be meaningful but 30 to me paints the picture that he genuinely doesn’t know me well enough to pick what I like.

I’ve been searching and really looking for things that would make him happy.

Am I wrong for being upset? I hate arguing over materialistic things but he makes me feel so unseen and unheard. 🤦🏼‍♀️

OP posts:

Or the food bank?

JustCleaningtheBBQ · 19/12/2022 19:30

I would donate them all to a toy bank and them dump him.

He doesn't need to return them, let some good come out of his lazy, selfish purchase.

BrewandBiscuit · 19/12/2022 19:32

Were they wrapped? Individually or as a bulk?

Octo5 · 19/12/2022 19:35

I'd be running for the hills and you should, too. This is just unhinged.

I think this is a bit harsh.

It’s common to do big romantic gestures like fill the room with teddies or flowers (he thinks OP like teddies so thought this would be the better idea) and it sounds like he tried to do a big romantic gesture but it failed.

I couldn’t think of anything worse personally but I would either return them or give them to a childrens’ hospital.
I wouldn’t end the relationship over it unless there were other issues.

baxtersm · 19/12/2022 19:39

Picture or it didn't happen

PurpleSproutingSomething · 19/12/2022 19:42

We have a shop like this called in my city called Rajanis. You could definitely pickup 30 teddies there, a new watch battery, a bit of rope and some broken biscuits.

I would love to see a photo.

Stigsmother · 19/12/2022 19:47

Are they all the same? Or is it thirty different teddies??
I can't imagine thirty different teddies from a non-toy shop

Iamnotalemming · 19/12/2022 19:52

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 19/12/2022 19:28

If he’s not immediately going to take them back I’d drop them at the local hospital children’s ward and tell him the 30 teddies were a lovely thoughtful charitable donation to 30 children, now if we’re still doing gifts this year, I’d like something off my list. Otherwise take anything back you’ve bought him. And have a think about whether this relationship makes you happy.

This. 👆

blacksax · 19/12/2022 20:02

I think I'm done

Do you have the misfortune to actually live with this pillock, or can you just dump him immediately?

KarenOLantern · 19/12/2022 20:16

To be fair to the bloke, that is exactly the sort of grand "romantic" gesture you see in films all the time, so that's probably where he got his inspiration. He's been told since he was a kid that that's the sort of thing women love.

Although of course the fact that he is taking life lessons from stupid films is a major issue in and of itself, not to mention the fact that it seems like he doesn't know you at all (and this DESPITE you giving him a list!!!)

God, I would be so annoyed at something like that. Just the waste, the space it would take up, the hassle of getting rid of them (which you are of course going to have to do). And also, the fact that he spent £160... just imagine what sort of actually decent present he could have got you for that sort of money!

CountdownCat · 19/12/2022 18:14

Is it just me struggling to think of a diy shop that sells teddies?!

B and Q usually have a couple of annoying Christmas ones which sing songs.

Gruffalo101 · 19/12/2022 20:21

Buy him a Ken doll for Christmas see how he likes it.

Fairislefandango · 19/12/2022 20:21

I think it's very unlikely that a man who would do this is not also a bad partner in other ways too. He sounds like an absolute arse tbh. Does he have sny redeeming features, OP?

WomanhoodIsABirthright · 19/12/2022 20:21

We need a picture op, then take them all to a charity.

Headabovetheparakeet · 19/12/2022 20:28

What kind of weirdos hand out presents as they buy them at Christmas?

gettingolderandgrumpier · 19/12/2022 20:45

Oh op you win for the worst gift this year .
im intrigued you say he gives as he buys so did you get all these teddies at once or was it every few days ? Just put them all in a bag and ask him to return them it really isn’t normal buying someone 30 teddies.

Aquamarine1029 · 19/12/2022 20:48

I can't even imagine how ridiculous he must have looked going up to the till to buy all those fucking things.

Christmascountdownison · 19/12/2022 20:54

Does he think you would be 30 times happier with 30 teddies than 1? I know someone who thinks that way.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 19/12/2022 21:05

Cleanthatup · 19/12/2022 18:25

I really want to see a picture of them all lined up?! Plz

Of OP is able to contact Prince Andrew I believe he csn provide a sort of 'organisation chart' so that the teddies can be lined up correctly..

GlitteryShinyShit · 19/12/2022 21:06

Gruffalo101 · 19/12/2022 20:21

Buy him a Ken doll for Christmas see how he likes it.

Lol. No it has to be 30 ken dolls!

I bet he was trying to be romantic.

Can you give us some good things he does?....that's not teddy buying, because let's face it he has that skill nailed.....

Things aren't clear cut he could be neurodiverse (this statement is not meant to offend because I am myself and sometimes I go all out and don't realise how I come across).

Fireflygal · 19/12/2022 21:11

Bizarre.

The fact he won't listen to you is the red flag..he know best.

  1. He returns them
  2. You give them to him (hopefully you don't live together)
  3. You give to a charity.

In all scenarios you dump him as well.

TentoFive · 19/12/2022 21:15

Not one but thirty clear reasons why you should end your relationship with this person.
Beyond weird.

Rainbow1901 · 19/12/2022 21:17

SirDavidAttenborough · 19/12/2022 18:43

WTF is this all about. Wrong on so many levels.

I have to agree!!

Aquamarine1029 · 19/12/2022 18:43

You would leave your partner because he bought you the wrong present?

I take it you're single?

Happily married for over 25 years, thanks, and this isn't just about it being the "wrong" present. FFS.
