We enjoy watching a lot of the bog standard Christmas classics- Its a Wonderful Life, Home Alone, Elf, The Polar Express, A Christmas Carol, The Nativity, The Snowman etc.

But my absolute favourite is Beatrix Potter's The Tailor of Gloucester even though it's only 20mins and just watched via YouTube. It's so Christmassy and lovely and made me wonder if any one else has any less obvious gems? I also love 'Santa Claus The Movie' but couldn't decide if that fell into the bog standard or lesser watched category!

Look who's talking now was always my favourite Christmas film. So sad to hear about Kirstie Alleys passing. Definitely watching that soon

TheYearOfSmallThings · 07/12/2022 18:15

Jaws and The Omen.

I hadn't heard about Kirstie Alley Shock

Gagglestaggerhome · 07/12/2022 18:15

I watch Crazy Rich Asians and The Bling Ring every Christmas Eve, no idea why.
Also the Raymond Briggs Father Christmas, The Bear and The Snowman and the Snow dog.
Can't beat Die Hard either

ohidoliketobe · 07/12/2022 18:17

Raymond Briggs' Father Christmas and Santa Claus: The Movie are two of my favourites which don't seem to be on TV as often

Pirrin · 07/12/2022 18:21

Oh we love looking at the book for the Raymond Briggs Father Christmas - will have to search for the film too!

I've never seen Crazy Rich Asians (does Christmas feature in the film at all?) or Die Hard, will have to give those a try.

Bernard and the Genie - is worth digging out - a lesser known Richard Curtis film

louderthan · 07/12/2022 18:26

Scrooge, 1951 version with Alastair Simm
Jingle All The Way, with Arnold Schwarzenegger
Love the idea of watching the Tailor of Gloucester!

louderthan · 07/12/2022 18:28

And on Christmas Day we watch The Office Christmas special (UK version) and Peep Show
'Merry ChrisMark!'

mamaduckbone · 07/12/2022 18:34

We always watch Bugsy Malone at Christmas. I do find it a bit weird and inappropriate these days but the music is brilliant.

Pirrin · 07/12/2022 18:35

Bernard and the Genie I will definitely have a search for.

Oh yes, Jingle all the Way! We watched it a few years ago but time for a repeat viewing. Same with the Alastair Simm Scrooge - thank you!

The Office and Peep Show are right up my street but I would sadly be alone viewing them in my house - a v fun tradition though! I might steal that idea for a bit of present wrapping background viewing.

@UnclearNuclear I've just found Bernard and the Genie on YouTube recorded from bbc1 years ago. Lenny Henry and Alan Cumming! Can't wait to watch it with the kids!

Snowneep · 07/12/2022 19:26

Little Women - always watch it while wrapping presents

Pirrin · 07/12/2022 19:29

Do you have a favourite version of Little Women @Snowneep?

OP posts:
duacheapa · 07/12/2022 19:33

The Hogfather with David Jason, Michelle Dockery and Marc Warren.
I always watch it on the 23rd and 24th, ever since I first saw it on Sky in 2006!
It's my absolute favourite, Terry Prachett was an incredible human being.

MrsFionaCharming · 07/12/2022 19:35

My mum and I always do our wrapping whilst watching While You We’re Sleeping.

DealOrNoelsDeal · 07/12/2022 19:35

Do you have a favourite version of Little Women @Snowneep?

I love the 1994 version with Winona Ryder - beautifully Christmassy and the cast are all brilliant

Jaws and The Omen.

@TheYearOfSmallThings I think I am a little in love with you for these excellent festive choices!

DD and I always watch Gremlins, but that sounds a bit lightweight in comparison.....

Tallpaulwho · 07/12/2022 19:38

Always watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy

It's got Elves in it after all.

WetBandits · 07/12/2022 19:40

Also our ‘putting up the Christmas tree’ film is Coraline Smile
