We enjoy watching a lot of the bog standard Christmas classics- Its a Wonderful Life, Home Alone, Elf, The Polar Express, A Christmas Carol, The Nativity, The Snowman etc.

But my absolute favourite is Beatrix Potter's The Tailor of Gloucester even though it's only 20mins and just watched via YouTube. It's so Christmassy and lovely and made me wonder if any one else has any less obvious gems? I also love 'Santa Claus The Movie' but couldn't decide if that fell into the bog standard or lesser watched category!

Not Christmassy but we always watch Ruthless People on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day night .

WeeM · 07/12/2022 23:10

Christmas with the Kranks is brilliant and also love The Holiday. And sometimes can’t beat a Hallmark movie, doesn’t matter which one-the stories are all the same 😆

autumndays2 · 07/12/2022 23:18

Family Stone.... It is funny but emotional.in equal measure. Watch it early Dec, location is gorgeous, really well acted and I have a good cry and remember my beautiful mum

ChillinwiththeVillains · 07/12/2022 23:26

No one has mentioned a Very Vegimal Christmas. It’s a double length Octonauts “film” and is excellent. We watch all the standards like Snowman, Elf, Die Hard, About a Boy. But definitely going to look up Bernard and the Genie!

There's an ancient black and white film with Freddie Frinton (used to bé on Meet the wife with Thora Hors in the 60s). Apparently it's traditional in Germany. Must have a look on YouTube. It's silent, he plays a drunken butler

fridacakehole · 07/12/2022 23:32

We watch the original 70's Black Christmas on Christmas Eve once the kids are in bed.

Last year extended to teen 1 and this year to teen 2 Grin

Mickey's once upon a Christmas on Disney+

Though it used to be my eldest favourite film year round it is now reserved for Christmas lol

This is our Christmas tradition too since dds were tiny! It's always the first film we watch. Dd1 is 14 now and she still sits phoneless to watch it with us 🥰

We like the prep and landing shorts and Arthur Christmas. Me and DH always watch bad santa Christmas eve when dds are in bed.

Not strictly films, but we watch various Christmas music videos on YouTube every year. Christmas day always starts with merry f$#$ Xmas by Corey Taylor! (We are big slipknot fans in our house!)

XelaM · 07/12/2022 23:37

Miracle on 34th Street is my daughter's favourite Christmas film. We always watch it on Christmas eve

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 07/12/2022 23:43

I cannot cope with the snow dog (Raymond Briggs).

The first time it was on TV was a few weeks after we had lost our lovely family dog who looked just like the dog at the beginning. I sobbed the whole way through and still can't watch it now!

MrsMiddleMother · 07/12/2022 23:50

Bad Moms - a bad moms Christmas and daddy's home 2 are ones I now watch every year and find hilarious

Dixiechickonhols · 07/12/2022 23:58

Good luck Charlie Christmas special (old Disney channel show)

BFPDec21 · 08/12/2022 05:57

Jingle Jangle and We're Going on a Bear Hunt. I can't help cry every year at the latter.

This is Dinner for One. That is a Hogmanay tradition in Germany (for why, nobody knows!) and we follow this one too! We have it on DVD, sent by German friends.

Covetthee · 08/12/2022 07:06

Love to see all the bernard and the genie love on this thread. Will check out the itvplayer app! Can’t wait to watch it again. Feel like a kid again 🤣

It’s called Dinner For One. It’s a New Year’s Eve thing in Germany.

Go from 1999 is a Christmas movie.

I’d forgotten this was set at Christmas. Haven’t watched it for years, possible decades!

Barton10 · 08/12/2022 12:31

The BBC did a drama called The Greatest Store on Earth about 20 years ago when DD was 4 or 5 and she still loves to watch that on Christmas Eve.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 08/12/2022 20:26

We have to watch "The Flint Street Nativity". We have seen it so many times we can pretty much recite it from start to finish. The inlaws have all accepted that we will watch it together at some point.

Moro93 · 08/12/2022 21:06

We always watch Star Wars around Christmas/New Year. Other non-Christmas films we watch quite often include classic Disney movies and LOTR.

The only Christmas films I watch every year are Love Actually, It’s a Wonderful Life and The Nighmare Before Christmas. Occasionally Home Alone, but I don’t like many other Christmas films.

Moro93 · 08/12/2022 21:08

We also watch the Christmas episodes of How I Met Your Mother because it’s the first thing DH and I watched together and we have binged it multiple times.

I used to watch it 3 times in a row whilst baking Christmas cookies. Somehow, in my 20s, it always put me in the Christmas spirit!

Kucingsparkles · 09/12/2022 09:33

Nightmare Before Christmas must be watched at some point between Halloween and Christmas. Them's the rules in our house.

We also watch The Hogfather, preferably the same weekend that we get the tree.

mowly77 · 09/12/2022 17:05

May I also thoroughly recommend the Shaun The Sheep Christmas special that’s on Netflix. It’s only 30 mins though … I think I might have enjoyed it more than DD age 4. The influencer parents are brilliant

This is a "must watch" in our house for New years eve!

For Christmas I like to watch Dances with Wolves while wrapping the presents.
