What’s everyone doing for dessert?

I’m thinking of making Pavlova and banoffee pie maybe but always make these for dessert. Maybe some mince pies. Looking for some inspiration for something different, especially anything that can be made in advance.

Simon Hopkinson's Sticky Toffee Pudding, with home-made vanilla ice-cream

Sherry log 😋

MonkeyPuddle · 06/11/2022 16:23

Iceland frozen buffet. I will randomly choose 4 which tickle my fancy and then spend hours slaving away letting them defrost.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 06/11/2022 16:24

Surely everyone just makes a birds trifle and buys a chocolate log 😜

I do LOVE pavlova, may have to buy one of those too..

As for making dessert......I wish I had the skills. Dessert is my favourite part of Christmas dinner.

Nothingbuttheglory · 06/11/2022 16:26

Christmas pudding, Christmas cake, chocolate log.

AltheaVestr1t · 06/11/2022 16:29

A Black Forest gateaux I think.

Delia's chocolate truffle torte is fabulous - very easy to make, and can be made in advance. Serve simply with cream or crème fraiche. (It's very rich)

bigbluebus · 06/11/2022 16:30

I usually do Tiramisu - with quite a lot of marsala wine in it. (There are no children involved in my Christmas)

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 06/11/2022 16:32

Always ice cream Christmas pudding.
the way I make it:
Large quantity of dried fruit
soak in large quantity of booze (usually amaretto). Sometimes mini marshmallows or malteasers added also.
Mix with Green and Blacks chocolate ice cream.
re freeze
serve with amaretti biscuits

I make a really nice Christmas pudding that's not too sweet, served with cream or ice cream and then trifle for the children.
Sorry OP, no original inspiration from me!

Dogsgottabone · 06/11/2022 16:41

No one eats pudding until a few hours after Xmas lunch. My dad has trifle and Xmas pudding, my mum has Xmas pudding, DH has mandarin and ginger pudding, DC have one of those awful premade cakes from a supermarket shaped like a snowman etc.

Then obviously chocolates.

Luckydog7 · 06/11/2022 16:49

Homemade Xmas cake and pudding plus trifle on the day itself but every year we do something new for Xmas eve. So chocolate torte, marzipan in puff pastry, chox pastry with creme pat and praline (forgotten the name). This year I've got my German baking book out so planning a baked cheesecake (possibly biscoff) plum crumble cake, and something else, but we are a big cooking family.

When I say Christmas pudding icecream, I mean literally Christmas pudding broken up into homemade vanilla icecream with a bit of brandy. I thinks that’s what people normally mean.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/11/2022 17:15

Home-made Christmas pudding (Delia Smith's recipe), after a digestive pause to let the turkey and roast potatoes go down. By the time we get to the pudding it's dark outside as we don't usually start Christmas dinner until 3 or 4pm, so flaming the pudding is particularly satisfying. We pour a bit of brandy over it, light it with a match so it is briefly covered in blue flame, and then dig in. I have it with thick cream. My husband has his with vanilla ice cream. Our daughter will probably have hers with a bit of both. Our son, poor benighted soul, doesn't like Christmas pudding 😱so I buy him something different. Last year he asked for cheesecake. Must see what he fancies this year!

PauliesWalnuts · 06/11/2022 17:19

Christmas pud and home made custard. Then a cheese board. Than a waffer-thin mint.

Then I explode.

Vinylloving · 06/11/2022 17:19

Sticky toffee pudding?

CaronPoivre · 06/11/2022 17:21

I am going for Rodney. He's currently sat in my freezer.

Affogato would actually be perfect as a light but lovely pudding, maybe with baileys and espresso

ChimChimeny · 06/11/2022 17:23

We're at my mum's so traditional Christmas pud with custard & extra thick cream for those who like it, shop bought jam tarts with cream and/or custard for those who don't.
The shop bought jam tarts are a long running family tradition at my mum's 😁

Tiramisu!
Banoffee pie sounds great.
