What’s everyone doing for dessert?

I’m thinking of making Pavlova and banoffee pie maybe but always make these for dessert. Maybe some mince pies. Looking for some inspiration for something different, especially anything that can be made in advance.

I normally do a cheesecake and something else

Ihavedogs · 06/11/2022 17:24

We don’t normally have one. We may have a mince pie, or a bit of stollen a little later on or even just some chocolates. This year I am keeping to hand some (vegan) ice cream and fruits in alcohol from the plum vodka and apricots in amaretto.

PurBal · 06/11/2022 17:26

Pavlova, trifle, Christmas cake.

biscuitcat · 06/11/2022 17:27

We always have homemade chocolate eclairs - best part of Christmas dinner at our house!

readingismycardio · 06/11/2022 17:32

Pistacchio tiramisu!

mam0918 · 06/11/2022 17:42

Vianetta as always.

LittleGreenDuck · 06/11/2022 17:43

I've had my mum's homemade profiteroles for Christmas dinner dessert every year of my life. Wouldn't be Christmas without them!

Affogato would actually be perfect as a light but lovely pudding, maybe with baileys and espresso

That’s what we are having, except with Tia Maria instead of Baileys.

magicstar1 · 06/11/2022 17:49

My mother makes her Christmas pudding, and I do a trifle along with a roulade or pavlova. Last year I made a pavlova tree which looked great on the table.

tealandteal · 06/11/2022 17:49

Something chocolatey, something fruity and something traditional. This year probably a cheesecake(strawberry/raspberry) a self saucing chocolate pudding and mince pies.

NoWordForFluffy · 06/11/2022 17:52

I'm making this chocolate orange cheesecake. I've already make a traditional pudding and a chocolate cherry pudding as well, so we have options!

Christmas pudding
and later a massive cheeseboard and Christmas cake

AlwaysLatte · 06/11/2022 18:02

We always plan for Christmas pudding and hard sauce but after such a big lunch we almost never do. It's become a bit of a Boxing Day tradition!

Franticbutterfly · 06/11/2022 18:05

I think going to make brownies to be served with ice cream as we have a coeliac person coming (I use almond flour).

Drbrowns · 06/11/2022 18:15

Some of these ideas sound lovely. Pudding seems to be a big thing. I’m not a fan but I usually get some of my mams to have if anyone wants it but she’s not making any this year. Might have to give one a go myself.

Usually tiramisu. But I make it with double cream rather than mascarpone so that it's very light.

cavily1806 · 06/11/2022 18:21

Nothing! I hate dessert. I'm double stuffing meat and potatoes 😂

Lalanbaba · 06/11/2022 18:29

I have decided this year on profiteroles. Choux pastry and craquelin is already in the freezer.
Will fill with creme patissier and serve with chocolate sauce.
Simple and can be made the day before. Chocolate sauce to be reheated in the microwave. If no one fancy it after xmas lunch can happily live in the fridge a couple of days

wast542 · 06/11/2022 18:30

Kids always get a Xmas Colin
Then will pick up a couple of different desserts from M&S
Mince pies and brandy butter etc

YuliaJollyberry · 06/11/2022 18:30

A parade of puddings carried in on cake stands/plates around an hour and half or so after the main course, sometimes longer. Includes a steamed sponge pudding, sticky toffee, lemon curd or berry jam are all popular options, a small wibbly wobbly jelly sort of shaped like a pudding, a concoction constructed from ice cream mixed with meringue or honeycomb bits etc with frosted berries and the piece de resistance homemade flaming Christmas pudding. Iced rum sauce, brandy butter, pouring cream or tinned Devon custard to accompany. Haven’t decided on this years flavours yet.

Last year my grown up DD was with DH and me and we bought a frozen strudel and had it (cooked and hot obviously 🤣) with some ice-cream. Easy and tasty. None of us like Christmas pudding. Don’t know about this year but strudel is a possibility again.

We have it much later than the main course. It would be too much immediately after.

carefulcalculator · 06/11/2022 19:39

Sticky toffee pudding and a trifle, I think. Also always have icecream and bits for making sundaes.

Partypoooooper · 06/11/2022 19:47

I'm not hosting this year but if I was it would be white chocolate cheesecake

AxolotlEars · 06/11/2022 19:54

lemon meringue pie, chocolate mousse, pomegranate pannacotta
