What’s everyone doing for dessert?

I’m thinking of making Pavlova and banoffee pie maybe but always make these for dessert. Maybe some mince pies. Looking for some inspiration for something different, especially anything that can be made in advance.

This year
I'll prepare ahead some crumble mix with porridge oats added and cinnamon and part cook some Brambley apples then freeze in separate containers

Sticky toffee pudding to make ahead and freeze

I have a Sainsbury Christmas pudding that needs used , its been waiting for 3 years

Steamed syrup pudding maybe on Christmas Eve

Chocolate Brownies . they keep quite well but probably more for eating with coffee than dessert

DS won't eat anything too fussy , he likes ice cream, caramel sauce , chocolate sauce and Crunchie pieces .

Inasec24 · 06/11/2022 20:05

I think I might make a bakewell tart and a pumpkin pie for over the festive period.

Dessert on Christmas day... I'm currently thinking ice cream sundaes for kids and maybe DH will make a cheesecake. Otherwise I will see what I can find in supermarket freezers. Last year we had almond and pear tart which was lovely.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 06/11/2022 20:07

We’re having a (bought) Christmas pudding, with cream and brandy butter, a homemade trifle (because I love making them!) something chocolate-y (bought) and mince pies. Hopefully something for everyone!

Cluckycluck · 06/11/2022 20:11

Christmas pudding (M&S)
Nigella's sticky toffee pudding (the proper one not the easy one)
Tia Maria or Baileys cheesecake (homemade)

If anyone has a good Tia Maria/Baileys cheesecake recipe I'd love to know it!

RinklyRomaine · 06/11/2022 20:20

Something Black Forest this year. Probably a Black Forest trifle. Puff pastry mince tarts, mint vienetta for the picky kids.

MadeInChorley · 06/11/2022 20:21

Toblerone mousse, raspberry panne cotta and Christmas pudding.

I think going to make brownies to be served with ice cream as we have a coeliac person coming (I use almond flour).

My FIL is coeliac and I'm planning on making Nigellas flourless cake, the Christmas version one.

NeverHadANickname · 06/11/2022 20:30

I think I'm going to make Nigellas Christmas pudding and chocolate pudding thing. I don't know. I go round and round with desserts, there will only be 5 of us I'd imagine but I'd love to make 1 or 2 more.

A Mont Blanc (layers of meringue, boozy cream, chestnut purée and grated chocolate)

ContadoraExplorer · 06/11/2022 20:38

I sometimes do a Mary Berry sticky toffee pudding but whilst you can do some prep in advance it's best when you eat it straight after cooking which takes up time on Christmas day that I'd rather avoid.

Last year I made a gingerbread cheesecake the day before so it was just a case of serving it on the day - was really tasty so I may just do that again for ease.

Starlitexpress · 06/11/2022 20:40

Usually do sticky toffee pudding as I love it, but this ear am going for James Martin's cola cake, it's easy and a crowd pleaser and you can still serve it with toffee sauce and cream!
Also doing ice cream with EVERYTHING, toffee sauce, squirty cream, flake, matchmakers, sprinkles........

DogInATent · 06/11/2022 20:43

Snowball panna cotta.

Might even remember the maraschino cherry this year.
I wish I could figure out how to give it a 'fizz'.

ChubbyCapybara · 06/11/2022 21:01

We always buy a nice pandoro and serve it with a dusting of icing sugar and a sauce made of a mixture of vanilla custard and mascarpone. Quick, delicious, Christmassy, and leftovers are still good for a couple of days.

FairytaleofNewHampshire · 06/11/2022 22:20

I'm making Grasshopper cheesecake.

Ground popping candy, sprinkled when serving

I’m another who does homemade flamed Christmas pudding a little while after dinner has started to go down. Otherwise just cheese and fruit.,

Though I do usually also make Delia’s Christmas Dried fruit compote. Dried figs and apricots etc. simmered in IIRC diluted fresh orange juice and a few spices. Very Christmassy, quite quick to make in advance, and also v nice for breakfast, on cereal or on its own.

HalfWower · 07/11/2022 08:57

Nigella's smoked salted chocolate tart. Delia's cherry trifje.

Pistacchio tiramisu!

That sounds lovely. Can you share which recipe you use?

DinosaurOfFire · 07/11/2022 12:31

Nothingbuttheglory · 06/11/2022 16:26

Christmas pudding, Christmas cake, chocolate log.

Exactly this. Plus mince pies and lots of brandy cream.

ShinglesThinBonesWhiskersBunions · 07/11/2022 12:39

We always have the same, prepared the day before -
Nigella's sticky toffee pudding

Individual trifle, bought custard, black cherry jelly

School cake with Christmas sprinkles.

Bought mini mince pies and clotted cream
Mini cheese boardp

All available straight after lunch, always left until tea time with turkey sandwiches mayo and mango chutney.

Cannot wait.

@magicstar1 absolutely! It's not in English though. Basically, it's the same old tiramisu recipe, except you put 50-60 g or pistacchio cream/spread (https ) in the mascarpone mix, and instead of cocoa in between the layers, crushed pistacchios. I thought it's amazing, esp. that my family are all pistacchio lovers!

Oooh lovely! Pistachios are my mother's and SIL's favourite so I'll definitely try this.
I remember shelling, peeling and chopping sooo many pistachios to make ice cream - that spread is a great idea.

AnnPerkins · 07/11/2022 17:06

A selection comprising gluten free sherry trifle, glutenfreecuppatea's Baileys cheesecake, Christmas pudding and maybe something else if there's room in the fridge. All served with brandy cream. And there will be plenty of leftovers to eat throughout the week.

They sell big jars of pistachio crème in Costco, quite often - the same brand they sell at the airport, if it helps, and for about £8 for 600g. It's very good.
