Wreath and advent calendar (big one all kids share in hallway) evening before 1st Dec. The rest usually between 12th and 18th here depending on how much time I have and how Christmassy I'm feeling.

GoldIsMyBirthMetal · 05/11/2022 19:27

1st Dec or the first weekend after. Any earlier feels too early!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 05/11/2022 19:29

Around the 10th - 15th of December.

We celebrate on the 21st.

I take it down about the 26th -27th.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 05/11/2022 19:35

Normally as close to 1st Dec as possible as I absolutely love this house when it is decorated for Christmas, it just looks amazing inside!
However this year due to circumstances we can't do it on the weekend of 3rd as DS is away at Cubs camp, and DP refuses to allow me to put them up on a weekend SD isn't here. So in order that my children don't miss out I'm having to put them up 19th Nov which I'm not happy about. My DS's birthday is 23rd so I'd never want them up before then as we usually do the living room up with decorations for each child's birthday. But it is that or 17th December which is obviously far too late. SD will be putting them up at her mothers so isn't missing out. Maybe I'm being unfair, he isn't normally a Disney dad or anything, but he is adamant she has to be here.

60smusic · 05/11/2022 19:35

We normally do all the decorations and tree the 1st or 2nd weekend in December. My neighbour took down their Halloween decs the 1st and that night the Christmas lights outside went on. They've a massive tree in the window. It just doesn't feel right. I love Christmas, I love my tree etc but 1st November way too early.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 05/11/2022 19:37

I should add this is the only house my children will put decorations up in as their father is 100% absent. I always forget when I post as he has never been in their life and everyone around me knows. Forgot I was wittering to strangers for a minute 🙈.

mam0918 · 05/11/2022 19:38

First day of Advent which is 27th November and take then down the day after Epiphany which is 6th January.

Also theres no such thing as too early, I use to leave some up all year there no rule on how many sparkly pretty things you can have up (and fairy lights are fashion now for kids all year round).

Suzi888 · 05/11/2022 19:40

Last weekend in November, it takes AGES and I want it all looking festive, tidy etc for the 1st! 🎄

mamatoTails · 05/11/2022 19:42

As close to the 1st as possible. I think this year we will do it either on the night of the Nov 30th, or Saturday 3rd.
Depends on when we have more time.

A580Hojas · 05/11/2022 19:44

About the middle of December.

JenniferWooley · 05/11/2022 19:47

I've taken 1st & 2nd Dec off work for something which has now been cancelled so will spend the 1st doing the big Christmas clean & washing the Christmas bedding to freshen it up after being in storage all year.

Then will put the tree up & decorations out on the 2nd.

That way I'll get to relax over the weekend watching crappy Christmas movies with the flat looking all festive.

nomoreflyingducks · 05/11/2022 21:46

Little set of lights go up in the living room window on the 1st Dec to co-inside with advent calendars. Rest goes up when we bring the tree in, it's a live tree so comes in weekend before Christmas (18th Dec this year). Everything comes down on twelfth night. Tree gets planted out again, this year it will probably get to retire and stay in its hole until we chop it down for fire wood as it's getting a bit big.

Myownpapillon · 05/11/2022 21:48

First weekend in December

RewildingAmbridge · 05/11/2022 21:50

First weekend of December, DS and DH have birthdays late November/very early December so once they're done. It's loads of faff and I'm not doing it for the sake of a few days then taking it down again. Usually leave it all up until after new year. Also the fairy lights are nice in the darkness of winter

JaninaDuszejko · 05/11/2022 21:51

We start putting things up at the start of advent (advent calenders mainly initially) and slowly put up home made decorations (paper snowflakes then paper chains) then the trees go up the weekend before Christmas. Things come down in January, depends when the trees are being collected by the local Rotary TBH, I'd prefer to keep them up to the 5th.

snugglyblanket · 05/11/2022 22:02

I stagger mine and start around 1st December. Advent calendars come out first, then I add to it over several days. The tree comes out later due to space. I put it up about the second weekend in December and the DC help me to decorate. Lights tend to get put up and tested in November and go on whenever others around then their on, I don't want to be the first but I'm happy to start early if others do 😂 I have some fairy lights outside year round that get switched on from about 1st November, when the nights start to draw in, until about Feb. Those are already on.

@ThisMustBeMyDream can you put up most of your decorations in advance and leave decorating the tree until the DC are there? That way you get to decorate when you want but SD still gets to help?

ThisMustBeMyDream · 05/11/2022 22:07

@snugglyblanket it would still mean the tree didn't go up until 18th Dec, which is far too late for me. We have a big tree which goes in the bay window and is the masterpiece of the whole decor. I love the tree the most!

NiqueNique · 05/11/2022 22:08

The Advent candle holder comes out for 1st Sunday of Advent, which this year is Nov 27th. The first candle will be lit on this day.

I’ll put up the hanging decorations in our bay window on the 1st of December, put up the candelabra and turn on the outdoor lights. The wreath will go up too.

I’ll slowly decorate over the first week - not a lot, really, just a few items here and there, some extra candles and maybe some foliage in a vase or jar.

The tree will go up in the second week.

PassThePringles · 05/11/2022 22:09

There's a few trees lit up in windows around me already. I'd never usually do it before Dec 1st but since covid hit, it tends to be mid November as I like to faff and change it around for the first couple of weeks. I spend a fortune on Christmas decorations so why not enjoy them for longer, especially in these miserable times 🎄

masterofdoomv1 · 05/11/2022 22:09

think ill put mine up about 3rd or 4th or start then anyway 😋

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 05/11/2022 22:20

Ist Dec. The night before we sneak around and put all the trees up for the kids to find when they get up along with advent calendars etc. Then we decorate the trees when the kids come home from school (if it's a school day) with lots of hot chocolate.

Beachbabe1 · 05/11/2022 22:23

Always the last weekend in November! Take away and christmas movies in the evening! Cannot wait!!

MrsAvocet · 05/11/2022 22:30

The last weekend before Christmas usually, but this year we are away that weekend so will probably do it on the day after school finishes, which I think will be 22nd Dec.

Stoic123 · 05/11/2022 22:32

Staying with relatives during Christmas week and live on my own so don't normally put up a tree. Fairy lights will go up last weekend in Nov and stay up till end Feb. Wreath, holly, garlands etc go up first weekend of December and will come down before go back to work in Jan (3rd).

Withnoshoes · 05/11/2022 22:37

Early December and down New Years day ish depends on my work shifts really.
