With the food prices shooting up I'm thinking to start putting the occasional treat on my weekly shop now and hide Grin

What's everyone started buying with good dates on?

Like so many of you I have been buying bits and pieces as they have come into the shops . We are not loaded so it really helps spread the cost . It's not really willpower I just forget they are there . I've already part payed for my turkey so hoping my xmas shop will just fresh goods which will be payed for by Nectar points .

snowmanshoes · 23/11/2022 19:53

All the chocolate ever known to exist 😆
pigs in blankets in freezer
sausagemeat/gammon for stuffing in freezer
boxibg day ham in freezer
and erm…… that’s it!

Will be adding bits from now on each week

Has anyone started to eat their purchases? I've unfortunately done a giant toblerone and am on my way to completing a tub of very merry munch 😬

That's really naughty punish yourself by going without at xmas as a lesson learned .

Puddywoodycat · 23/11/2022 20:41

Large bag of lebcucken from Lidl and different chocolates.

Sainsbury's liter of Baily's. £10 .

Today £2 after eight mints.

Stomacharmeleon · 23/11/2022 20:48

@mac1974 what the GIANT giant Toblerone? The 4.5kg one? I want one just to see how big the mountain bits are.... and whether I can get one in my trap :)

Nothing. I've never done that tbh. If there's one thing I've learned about Christmas food from MN, it's that people who buy it early to put away do not save money - they eat it and have to buy more Grin

Fortunately we have an old chest freezer and cupboard we use for non perishable food in the garage. If it was kept in the house I'd definitely eat everything before Christmas 🤣

I simply can't afford to buy again, so if someone snaffled the chocs that have been there since Sept we would all go without , my family know this . The only thing that sometimes happens is a Christmas pud that couldn't be found turns up in July .😂

mac1974 · 24/11/2022 13:55

@plinkplinkfizzer I'll probs just buy more instead 🤣

mac1974 · 24/11/2022 13:57

@Stomacharmeleon no no not the massive massive one although now I'll keep my eye out for one of those just to challenge myself.

mac1974 · 24/11/2022 14:08

I've found the very merry munch quite sickly this year for some reason. Think I'll have to gift the second tub to my friend as she didn't face the same problem.

Summersdreaming · 25/11/2022 18:30

Just took advantage of buy 6 bottles of wine and get 25% off at asda. Saved around £15 and I'll need 6 to get through Christmas dinner with my lot.

pinkksugarmouse · 25/11/2022 22:53

I know I’m in the minority but buying heaps of food just because it’s Christmas is just not a thing for me. I have a few extra things but buying food weeks, even months ahead is a strange concept to me.

BiddyPop · 26/11/2022 12:20

I tend to pick up a few treat items now in my weekly shopping - as the things we like often go out of stock close to Christmas. And then just as Christmas arrives, I have the chance to stock up on more essentials as there are usually lots of offers of bulk packets, bogofs, vouchers etc on essentials we use anyway - so I buy extras for the cupboards then.

But we are generally pretty good about keeping the Christmas treats for Christmas.

Stomacharmeleon · 26/11/2022 19:56

@mac1974 they are on offer on Amazon :)

AutisticLegoLover · 26/11/2022 20:00

I've got Quality Street, Heroes, Celebrations, those fruit jelly segment things, the light projector biscuit tin from M&S along with M&S chocolates, chocolate biscuits, veggie sweets, some treelets, Waitrose chocolate biscuits, and probably things I've forgotten about. I might get a bottle of wine for Christmas Day, and some baileys for nights spent wrapping and watching a Christmas film.

snowmanshoes · 26/11/2022 21:50

Got a few more bits

nuts
breadsticks/cheese straws
bottle of Aldi mulled wine
j20 glitter berry as 10 bottles for £6 in b and m so got some now

NoCoatAndFurKnickers · 26/11/2022 22:00

We've just started. So far have got a bottle of Bailey's and a big box of chocolates. There is no way I'll eat any before Christmas. I'm extremely greedy and have zero willpower, but am quite good at compartmentalising and it honestly doesn't occur to me to eat the Christmas food before Christmas! Sound like a right Pollyanna 😂

Lalanbaba · 27/11/2022 10:05

How are you getting brandy butter/clotted cream so much in advance? All dates that I find they expire before Christmas.
Do they freeze well?
I am making today, pigs in blankets and sausage rolls for the freezer.
We have bought spirits/wine. Need to get champagne still
All the chocolate that we need has been bought.
I have made almost all the cookies, and have the ingredients for mince pies. (To be made next week)
I have all the cured meats, but need to get cheese.
Next week I have a couple days off so I will sort the stuffed chicken and put it in the freezer.
So far the only thing that we are eating is the nuts in shell and one of the blackberry whisky bottles that I made in August
