With the food prices shooting up I'm thinking to start putting the occasional treat on my weekly shop now and hide Grin

What's everyone started buying with good dates on?

Jars of goose fat
vac packed chestnuts (for my turkey leftover pie!)
Some frozen sausage rolls and pigs in blankets
Foil
Baking paper
Crackers for cheese
Chutneys (DH likes a variety)
Copycat After Eights
I had a Hotel Chocolat birthday voucher for buy one get one free on boxes of chocolate so I’ve put those away and am trying to forget they’re in the cupboard!

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 15/09/2022 16:42

Some chocolate boxes, especially for gifts. Alcohol and naice soft drinks, where available things like lebkuchen and other shelf stable treats. Everything else will be done nearer to the time

BiddyPop · 15/09/2022 16:45

Actually, I might have said nothing but I realised I have a pack of amaretti biscuits safely stashed (I do need a new bottle of amaretto to drink with them - I like the almond overload!! Xmas Grin

Might do a sainsbo's run next month and get a few goodies while I am there. Maybe even go as far as Lakeland if I get a good weather day. (Sainsbo could be as little as 90 minutes away in Newry, but Lisburn is a lot bigger, and Belfast is not so much further for another big one but also good craft shop, Lakeland, and a few others).

Me too @TheYearOfSmallThings I’m impressed with the willpower of PP who keep large tubs of chocolate in the house without touching them!.

Same - they'd be eaten by the time the week is out 😆

stayathomer · 15/09/2022 17:01

Bought 12 cans of club orange a tin of celebrations and heroes and a box of biscuits.

Malleus123 · 15/09/2022 17:27

@mac1974 must admit I was lucky to get them, there were only 3 left on the shelf. Had to store them at my mums to stop me eating them before Christmas

Where do you get clementine curd? Sounds delicious

It's a Sainsbury Taste the Difference one . They do Lemon Curd all year but the Clementine was a limited edition .
And yes , it is delicious Xmas Grin

Please return to this thread and let us know when it appears. I don't tend to shop at sainsburys as the other supermarkets are all closer but sounds worth a detour!

Cuwins · 15/09/2022 18:28

Lidl lebkuchen hearts in today- my absolute favourite! No way I'm saving them for Christmas I imagine I will get through many bags before Christmas!

mac1974 · 16/09/2022 13:46

2 tins of very merry much secured. Christmas has started.

mac1974 · 17/09/2022 18:22

Thanks to this thread I've been picking up more snacks this weekend. I've got cheese footballs (not even sure we like them), after eights, mini cheddars but a limited edition flavour with paprika (fancy) regretting not getting the twiglets I saw

Decafflatteplease · 17/09/2022 19:09

We have a box for Christmas food bits in the pantry so it's all together so I can see what we have. Also a present box in the loft I add to through the year as I see bits and bobs.

Food wise I've bought some peanuts we really like, and the m.and s merry munch or whatever it's called. And a packet of stuffing mix and a jar of gravy granuals. Christmas coffee on order in next.shop. already bought quality street for teaching assistants as they were on offer.

Present wise have bought some bits for one DC, got my neice sorted and got my parents sorted

Wicca123 · 17/09/2022 19:31

Oooh paprika cheddar....need to buy those !!!!!

Wicca123 · 17/09/2022 19:33

@Decafflatteplease .....thankyou....totally forgot about teachers.....Will be buying quality street and putting away on Tuesday!!!

mac1974 · 17/09/2022 21:11

@Wicca123 I found them in Iceland

Elephanttrunk · 17/09/2022 21:31

Went to M&S food hall today and couldn’t find any merry munch, hoping I see some as it sounds lovely

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 17/09/2022 22:30

Don’t get to tesco very often, so went the other day and purchased my pistachios I buy every year because Tescos ones are elite 😂

I went today and forgot to look! 🙈

Daughtersandbristolian · 23/11/2022 07:59

I bought a fake ‘merry munch’ from home bargains. Will have to taste test before the big day for research purposes as if not much cop will have to get the real thing! (It is also a small pouch not a tin).

KatherineJaneway · 23/11/2022 08:02

I've bought beef gravy and chicken gravy from Waitrose and they are in the freezer. Really nice Yorkshire puddings too. Turkey crown in the freezer too. Already have 4 bottles of champagne but will buy some more.

I slowly buy over time so my food bill just before Christmas is not eye watering.

Oblomov22 · 23/11/2022 08:08

This all sounds yummy.

BiddyPop · 23/11/2022 08:18

Last weekend, I bought little triangle crackers, dried orange slices dipped in dark choc, and mini vol au vent cases in Lidl. I already had 2 stollen (but the mini panettone is eaten 😳).

I've also, over the course of a few weeks of specials, put away 3 bottles of a nice wine for Christmas (normally €18 but down to €11 a bottle).

I need to bottle the blackberry gin that's been infusing (and get some vanilla ice cream so I don't waste the fruit ...nom nom).

But that's about it so far.

caroleanboneparte · 23/11/2022 08:20

Biscuits
Ingredients for Xmas cake
Cinnamon
Cloves
Mixed spice
Brandy

Uninterestedfamily · 23/11/2022 08:27

Nothing as yet, I'm newly single and all the nice treat stuff is in too big packs. What I want is a pack with one or two each of a variety of different savoury fresh treats. Anyone seen anything like this?
