I;ve not decided on the cake recipe yet Nero , I normally do something along the Delia recipe but with sultanas and caster sugar so it's less heavy .

I'm not a Nigella fan but just saw the TV show , she was making carrot cake with crystalised ginger
What is wrong with you Nigella? Carrot cake is whole cloves crushed and some cinnamon if you must -but Ginger??? Is Satan at work here Xmas Shock

I use a Slimming World recipe that has no sugar at all. It won't keep as long though, so I tend to make it Christmas week. I also have a chocolate cake recipe with ground ginger and chopped stem ginger in it.

ConstantlyCooking · 27/08/2022 16:24

Enjoy Six Nero 😁
I use the BBC Good Food simmer and stir cake but (on 70's advice many years ago) use amaretto instead of rum or brandy!
Hope your jet lag is ok crazy.
my chillis are growing well and should be useful for my chilli jam later.
Everyone is out today so I am enjoying an empty house and eating the out of date Florentines I found recently checking my present stash.
I will plan Christmas food in October. I always have beautifully restrained lists and then panic in December and buy extra, so I'm not sure starting early is good for me!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/08/2022 16:37

Amarretto in cakes is lush Xmas Grin
I need to buy a new bottle (Aldi do a pretty good small one )

I've just grated some carrots that were larding about in the salad drawer , they're in the freezer till I get the rest of the ingredients for carrot cake .

I've ordered some lip balms for DD Advent Calendar .
I think i'll alternate with beauty product/chocolate

No point in buying her a Beauty Advent , she tends to stick to the same products and found using too many different things overloaded her skin.
And she cannot stand coconut either to eat or on her skin so that wipes out loads .

Enjoy Six but not too much wine nero Xmas Wink

I'm already buying snacks here and there, and I've bought the Good Food magazine today, so I'm planning what treats I'll make as well. We have an extra 4 people this year, so I want to try to get ahead of myself a bit.

I might see what meat Booths has on offer this year before deciding where I'm buying from. We don't do turkey, so I'm thinking of other options I fancy (maybe more game-type meat). Can't wait to be able to order my cheese from the village and my Booths food! Exciting times!

We moved our Santa train to 23 Dec so the Kiwis could come, and we're staying overnight at the Skipton PI the night before. We're also in London on the night of 19 Dec, so that'll be fun too.

Love this thread every year!

Turtle Doves (recycled cashmere) have lots of ladies bits on sale. Fingerless gloves down from £29 to £20.30. Wrist warmers were £26 now £18.20. I’ve had my eye on them since last year and treated myself to some. Might be a good gift idea, especially with the energy price hikes.

ConstantlyCooking · 27/08/2022 18:47

70 I've ordered some bits of stationery from Ohh Dear for DD's calendar so will mix chocolate, cosmetics and stationery plus random bits!
Fluffy- did you get the Christmas Good Food magazine?

NoWordForFluffy · 27/08/2022 19:38

I did, Constantly. I've found at least 4 recipes to try in the first few pages!

UJet lag got me today. I zonked out 9pm - 1am last night, was awake then until 4 and slept again until 10 with the result of losing the majority of the day to a migraine 🙄

Luckily I had a visit from the shopping and laundry fairy as the fridge was full and there were 2 loads of washing on the line when I got myself out of bed this afternoon and DH looked very proud of himself

Hope you're having a lovely time Neros

We are on a mission not to buy much food here this year as we're going away however, I think we'll still get a turkey crown from DHs colleagues farm and freeze it until we get back.
It won't feel like Christmas without DHs turkey and leftover pie Xmas Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/08/2022 22:50

DS (and the cats) are the only non vegetarians in the house so I buy 2 nice chicken breasts , if possible skin-on.
Roast plain (DS is not into spices or flavouring he's a very conservative with food)
The cats will get half of the meat after I've carved it up , it'll do a couple of meals for them , (they are greedy little ratbags Xmas Grin )

119 morning! We’re going to a festival today (Victorious - looking forward to Katherine Ryan, Russell Kane, Sam Fender, Example and Becky Hill). Should be good, except for the toilets 🤮

NoWordForFluffy · 28/08/2022 08:14

I detest festival toilets!

We're going to a fun day at the park across the road. Nice and local!

Me too and they have those eco ones that are even worse! I have quite a strong bladder but will still need to go a couple of times…

NerosFiddle · 28/08/2022 15:33

Hope you have a good time wreck.

Fluffy I couldn't see the magazine in Tescos today. But I couldn't look for too long because I had DD with me and she spotted a Frozen magazine. And no way am I paying nearly £8 for that!

GettingStuffed · 28/08/2022 19:32

Bought some Harry Potter merch at Lidl, a glass and water bottle for £3.99. DGS, who it's for, was with me so I told him it was for his mum 😆

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/08/2022 20:45

I've just whittered away a few post dinner hours minutes looking at old Christmas Adverts .
And how over the past few years they've been a bit yawn and preachy.

Maybe this year they'll say "We're not ging to spend a load of money on one of our adverts that will leave you all Eh ? We'll give the money to charity and you lot just come into the shop . Thanks"

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/08/2022 20:47

Ooh we're into the Hundred and Teens Xmas Grin

Morning!

I woke at 6 (unimpressed!), and was too hot in bed, so got up. I put a wash on and fed the starlings (who went mental for it!) and am now sitting having a cup of tea, waiting for them to appear back again as I've put more out. I can hear them on next door's roof, chirping away, so it won't be long!

WreckTangled · 29/08/2022 08:06

Morning! Yesterday wasn’t great, it was too busy people getting crushed etc so we left early. Such a shame as last year was really good.

I’ve left buying ds’ football shirt too late and it’s OOS on the adidas website now 😭 I got the groupon voucher too. The nearest stock in store is London 🤨

Dh is working today and I’ve got to tidy the house otherwise it’ll be pretty chilled.

NerosFiddle · 29/08/2022 09:25

Morning.

I thought it was really warm last night too. 16° at 6am.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/08/2022 09:59

DS and DH are going to the gym so they'll be out the way for a couple of hours .DS had trouble sleeping before he started going there (we changed his mattress and curtains too) but if he has a lot swirling round his brain he finds it difficult to switch off.
So if he's physically tired it helps him, and the gym is very near his work .
(Making him put his phone away helps too Xmas Hmm )

CrazyBaubles · 29/08/2022 12:37

Afternoon. I finally feel back on track, just in time to start back to work tomorrow.

It is scorching here today so I'm clearing my wash basket and doing a tidy of the house before going out for tea with a friend.

I couldn't sleep last night so started making a Christmas present ideas list so the planning has started here Xmas Smile

Morning!

Nice an sunny here today. But without the hideous heat / clamminess, thank god.

Busy, busy at work still. Obvs! 🤣🤣

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 30/08/2022 09:39

It’s cloudy here. We’re not doing anything although I have some washing on, hopefully it won’t rain.

CrazyBaubles · 30/08/2022 10:10

Morning. It's hot here but I'm back to work so not taking any notice.
Down to 350 emails so far 😫

We went to B&Q yesterday for a random clip thing DH needed and ended up buying some heavily reduced strawberry plants and a lemon tree so I need to get repotting and researching how to keep the lemon tree alive!

WreckTangled · 30/08/2022 10:16

Crazy my dad has loads of lemons on his lemon tree. And millions of figs. It’s funny because when pil’s were in NZ for years fil never had a single lemon on his lemon tree 😅 not sure my dad does anything special, they’ve got a sun trap patio though.
