Checking in and thank you for the new thread Fluffy

I'm sure we'll get a bit chattier soon - I don't think the heatwave is helping matters and it always ramps up in the run up to Halloween and Bonfire Night.

DreamingofItaly2023 · 12/08/2022 20:28

I’m sure we will end up with another thread :)

Kittycaz · 12/08/2022 20:34

Hey all I've started looking at Christmas decorations on ebay today as I am trying to make my little boys 1st Christmas a special one even though he won't remember it. It will be the 1st one as a family 😍🎄🎄 any ideas? X

NoWordForFluffy · 12/08/2022 20:45

Might be worth looking at Etsy for nice ones, @Kittycaz.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/08/2022 21:16

Hello CountDowners

My grand total (so far) is 1 pack wrapping paper /1 pair pyjamas for DD/ pre-ordered some mince pies .

So not exactly on the home straights but getting there Xmas Grin

MrsArrDee · 12/08/2022 22:37

We've been all hot and sweating in London today so Christmas was definitely not on my mind until we strolled past Liberty's and I wondered whether they had and Christmas decorations out.

Our Tesco have started putting out selection boxes!

CrazyBaubles · 12/08/2022 23:59

Evening! Thanks for the new thread. Last one has been filled (and yes, Bruce is in there).

It's almost 7pm here - we had a time zone change as we crossed a state line earlier so I'm all over the place.

Looking online we're all dealing with similar temps (it got up to 34° here today) but you can tell they deal with it all the time as there is air con everywhere.

Fluffy I think once schools start back in Sept the thread will get busy. I imagine a lot of people are tightening belts so will need to start thinking about Christmas earlier this year.

CrazyBaubles · 13/08/2022 01:05

Just spotted this in a the pizza place we've stopped at for tea Xmas Grin

Morning!

Awful sleep last night. I'm not liking the hot weather!

We're sitting in the garden drinking tea, enjoying the cooler weather. DH (who is in my bad books as he's broken my outdoor lights by pulling the wire too tight) is going to do Park Run at 9. I'm having a lazy day, interspersed with some weeding. Nothing strenuous though.

I've just sat and watched a starling doing a more-than passable impression of a seagull. Impressive! 🤣🤣

Morning.

I am hating this weather. I felt like I was being slow roasted in bed last night. I am working a long day tomorrow and I am pretty sure I will melt away before 20.45.

ConstantlyCooking · 13/08/2022 13:41

Hi all! Thank you for the new thread. I have started my prep and have vodkas infusing and crab apple jelly in a dark cupboard.
Before I go back to school I need to:
Sort out my Tupperware drawer;
Make chutney;
Do a present audit;
Sort out bags of clothes for charity shop
And spend lots of time on Mumsnet
Plus other general stuff.
Posting my list do I am accountable!

NoWordForFluffy · 13/08/2022 13:50

My rhubarb vodka is infusing and I'm going to start rosehip vodka soon (I need a new kilner jar first). I'll also do raspberry vodka when they ripen at the allotment!

We've sorted out old stuff for the charity bin recently. Mostly stuff they'll sell on as rags, but it gets them out of our house!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/08/2022 22:40

I got DD to help me clear out some cupboards ( ie I got her to lift things out then we decided if it was a Keeper or a Recycler) so a couple of bags to take to the Charity Shop .
DH is going to empty the Garage of Doom next week .

My DS has a third of a bottle of vodka that is goodness knows how old . I keep telling him I'm going to fill it with Werthers Original but no-one would drink it Xmas Hmm

I've ordered some new bedding <Rock'n'Roll , me>

ConstantlyCooking · 14/08/2022 01:00

DD is studying at the moment 70, but I am not sure how eager she would be to help me sort cupboards.
Rosehip vodka sounds almost health Fluffy- I remember being given rosehip syrup as a child.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/08/2022 07:10

Morning!

I'm up early after a mercifully early night last night. I felt well rough from the lack of sleep the night before. I'm going to the allotment before it gets too hot.

We're just feeding / watching the starlings. They're being very noisy / entertaining! I do need to go soon though!

DreamingofItaly2023 · 14/08/2022 07:26

Morning all, so glad this is the last hot day! Quite excited for the thunder and rain tomorrow.

I am so impressed by those of you who are productive in this weather, I just about manage the basics but nothing more.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/08/2022 08:43

I have to admit to not weeding yesterday. Too hot. We face north in our garden, but it's a proper sun trap and boiling hot!

OP posts:
2under2howscary · 14/08/2022 08:54

Morning everyone. I need to de clutter over the next few weeks ready for Xmas decorations and presents.

The heat has finally calmed down here, I don't know people can be productive ha! X

NoWordForFluffy · 14/08/2022 13:07

I'm just sitting round in the heat ordering bits for the kids' stockings. They are now complete. Xmas Grin

I got them a mini radio from the bargain thread, a 3-in-1 Lego Creator set and a Book Tail bookmark each. Then there will be sweets / chocolate as well.

I'm thinking of getting a Fire tablet for DD. Does anybody have one to know if they're decent? They're usually slashed in price on Black Friday, so that's when I'll buy it.

I need to increase our stash of AA batteries soon. Christmas involves heavy usage!

OP posts:
TheWoollybacksWife · 14/08/2022 13:46

We've had fire tablets. DS had a kids one when he was in primary school for games - he used it for about 2 years before a games console was more attractive. DDs both have the standard version that I bought on Black Friday about 4 years ago. These are used as kindles, for games and for watching movies etc. I think they are without ads versions.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/08/2022 13:51

I'm wondering if it's better for longevity to just buy the non-kids' one and a case. Potentially it is (we already have a Switch, so that temptation is already there!).

She uses my 9 year old iPad at the moment, but I'm pretty sure it'll die soon enough!

OP posts:
TheWoollybacksWife · 14/08/2022 14:35

I'd probably go for the non kids one. I have a feeling I bought the cheaper version (with ads) and then paid a fee to upgrade and it worked out cheaper than buying the non ads versions but don't quote me.
