You can get old Christmas mags on eBay! #justsayin' Xmas Grin

I picked up a collection of Christmas editions of Homes and Antiques Magazine in an antiques warehouse in Llandeilo. I would cry if they were destroyed.

NerosFiddle · 13/09/2022 08:28

I'm going to have to rub it in DH's face that what he threw out could have been worth something.

NoWordForFluffy · 13/09/2022 08:48

Hope your DS' op goes well, Neros.

It was 10 degrees here this morning 😲😲

The windows and the cars had condensation!!

I love my collection of Christmas mags - they’re in a box under my side of the bed, and they come out at the end of November while I cuddle under a blanket —planning to revive that 2006 table setting—.

We’re all off for the bank Holiday next Monday. I’m planning a themed celebration of the queen’s life —any excuse for a party—. Coronation chicken curry, any other ideas?

DS is morbidly excited to watch the funeral 🤔

CrazyBaubles · 13/09/2022 10:58

I hope your DS's op goes well Neros

I think you need to boost your Christmas mag collection this year so your DH needs to buy you a few.

I don't think DH knows I have a collection. They're in a Christmas gift box under the spare bed - I've just had a look through and I seem to have a few Good Housekeeping (including 2 little tips, ideas & recipe booklets), 2 Reds and some random ones - country living (?), good home and your home.

I think I may buy a craft one this year because I'll want to buy one and at least it'll be something different Xmas Grin

Firefly all I can think of is some cake with Royal Icing - I'm rubbish at these kind of things!

BiddyPop · 13/09/2022 13:58

I hope all goes well for DS Neros, and at least it's cleared up to decent weather for your visit (yesterday was eugh- wetting drizzle and humid).

FireflyGirl · 13/09/2022 19:32

How did it go today Neros?

That's a bit more effort than I was planning to put in, @sueelleker! I might stretch to chocolate crispie buns with little Union Jack flags! 😁

I might have to go on Pinterest for some inspiration.

TheWoollybacksWife · 13/09/2022 20:11

Hope your DS is recovering well Neros

Firefly what about Balmoral Chicken followed by Queen of Puddings, all washed down with a Zaza cocktail?

Virtual headstroke for NeroDS

I might do some pizza dough in the breadmaker on Monday and we can have a leisurely homebaked pizza . I've got everything I need for the sauce , it'll get slow cooked so I don;r need to do anything to it .

There was a lemon trifle that won the Platinum Jubilee Pudding contest , it was a work of art , swiss roll , lemon curd, lemon custard, amaretti biscuits, jelly, mandarin coulis and chocolate shards ! All from scratch !
That will not be appearing on my dinner table any time soon.

NoWordForFluffy · 13/09/2022 21:19

Evening!

We had it confirmed that we have Monday off today. Which means I'm only working one day next week, as I'm off to Poland on Weds until Friday. Sadly this just adds to my workload, but never mind.

I got back from Stockport OK, but inadvertently didn't read my ticket which said I had to take a particular route. Thankfully nobody checked! Blush

I've been to Aqua tonight. It was maybe a touch ambitious after legs, bums and tums last night, but time will tell! 🤣🤣

Have you checked if there is a Christmas shop in the town/city you are visiting Fluffy?

NoWordForFluffy · 13/09/2022 21:42

I'm failing dismally, as I hadn't. But I have now, and there is. Whoop!! I shall go on Friday before we go home.

Morning!

It's very autumnal outside. Yesterday it was really misty along the train tracks for much of my journey.

You can tell the days are shorter as the starlings stay in bed for longer. They're absolutely ravenous at the moment too. Not sure what's got into them!

WreckTangled · 14/09/2022 07:18

Grey and drizzly here today but he next ten days look sunny. I’ve got a headache this morning.

FireflyGirl · 14/09/2022 07:29

Another autumnal morning here.

It's my day off today, so taking DH's car in for its pre-MOT service (to do whatever needs doing for it to pass, or to order parts so we're not without the car). The garage is right next to the allotment, so I am going to harvest my solitary squash and do some tidying up while I wait. Word on the chat group is there has been an inspection and a chap with a clipboard this week so I'll probably be getting a letter 😳

NoWordForFluffy · 14/09/2022 07:51

We have periodic inspections, Firefly, as we have to keep 75% cultivated. I always worry about the summer one as I struggle to keep on top of weeds.

NerosFiddle · 14/09/2022 07:54

Morning.

Thanks for all the good wishes for DS's surgery. It went as well as expected and he feels a lot better this morning now that anaesthesia has worn off.

FireflyGirl · 14/09/2022 08:29

Thankfully ours isn't as strict as 75%, otherwise I'd have been booted off a long time ago.

I try to cultivate it, but a lot of stuff dies, and I am fighting a constant losing battle with the thistles 🙄

CrazyBaubles · 14/09/2022 09:00

Morning. Autumnal cold here this morning but the sky is a lovely blue. Forecast is sunny and getting up to 20° though so I'll be putting washing out soon.

Fluffy / Firefly I didn't know allotments were inspected. Sounds stressful!

Neros glad your ds is ok.

I have started watching the Sewing Bee. Completed series one and the Christmas special and really enjoy it. Makes me want to really learn how to use my machine

sueelleker · 14/09/2022 09:03

I planted some seed potatoes in pots a week ago, and I've had to earth them up twice already! They must like the warm wet weather we've been having.

BiddyPop · 14/09/2022 11:53

Nero's, glad to hear DS is doing ok. [waves] across the city to wherever you guys are.

Mad busy day already here, and Gardaí have closed Kildare St to traffic for fear of protests on autumn return of the Dáil (Parliament) this afternoon. Need to get to the Body Shop later for teen's body butter, will pick up an extra for Christmas use. And DH has told me that the reality is that we will be at DMIL's for Xmas (with DDog), so at least now I know and can plan accordingly. (Including stashing large quantities of alcohol and seasonal snacks in my suitcase...Xmas Wink )

NerosFiddle · 14/09/2022 12:02

Biddy we're in Blackrock so just need to go through the Port Tunnel and onto the M1. Hopefully it won't be too busy.

Question of the day.
So DS wants to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas today. Is this a Christmas film or Halloween?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/09/2022 17:52

My DC always watched it on Hallowe'en while they were eating tomtao soup and Ghost Toast (white bread , cut out a gingerbread man shape , toast the outer bit and put the untoasted 'man' back into the space . Ta Da !)

Then dress up and do the Hallowe'eney things .

NerosFiddle · 14/09/2022 17:54

We ended up watching Home Alone. But he did want Nightmare before Christmas. I think it's a Halloween film. Or early Nov film. I wouldn't class it as Christmassy.
