I got a student discount on urban outfitters. Bought two things and one got 15% off and the other 20%. I don’t think I’ll get any better so pretty pleased with that. I just need to get dds stocking fillers now and she’s done. I could buy her so many things 😳 still struggling on stocking fillers for ds… plus he needs a couple of other gifts to match DD’s pile!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/09/2022 18:27

Dd gets the UniDays discount ( I sometimes get her to order me things , or if I buy from Office/Schuh then she buy it and uses her 10%)

Some pretty good bargains there Wreck with 20% off , the sometimes have a rail in UO and you think "Ooh Sale" but it;s just the last couple of items with no discount Xmas Sad

I need to buy jeans for DD so it'll be UO ( I hate that shop , it's like a glamorous church hall !)

WreckTangled · 08/09/2022 18:30

It’s DD’s favourite shop. Shame it’s so expensive!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/09/2022 18:33

Two rental properties within half a mile of me

2 bed flat with bathroom+ensuite £1250 unfurnished
4 bed house 2 bathrooms £1800 unfurnished

Not much out there Sad

NoWordForFluffy · 08/09/2022 19:34

I'm really sad about the Queen. 😟

Well done on your discounts, Wreck!

Morning!

Rubbish sleep last night. Early night ahead tonight, I think!

WreckTangled · 09/09/2022 07:53

I’m off work today woo hoo! Have some uni stuff to do and washing to fold.

Someone hit a deer in the village this morning, it wasn’t there at 5:40 but was at 7, they just left it in the middle of the road rather than moving it to the side Hmm

CrazyBaubles · 09/09/2022 08:12

Morning. I'm surprisingly sad about the Queen too Fluffy.

DH woke me at 6 this morning by dropping a glass of squash on the bed 🙄 so I'm quite tired again
My sleep is all over the place and I really need to sort it.

Car has just been dropped off for its MOT. Please all keep your fingers crossed for me - I'm expecting it to fail but hoping it's nothing too expensive!

DreamingofItaly2023 · 09/09/2022 08:27

Morning all. I am also sad, I think because she was such a link to so much history. Can’t get my head around the fact that her first Prime Minister was Winston Churchill, 1952 was a different world. I am also sad that I will never see another Queen. I wonder who would have believed that at the end of her life we would have a female monarch, a female prime minister and a female deputy prime minister.

WreckTangled · 09/09/2022 08:36

Sending positive MOT vibes your way crazy!

I can’t say I’m greatly sad about the queen. I always feel some sadness when someone dies, it’s a sad time for anyone and she was a constant in our lives etc but that’s as far as it goes for me. She had a long, happy, privileged life and approached most things with dignity and generally showed strong leadership.

Ds was so grumpy today I was pleased to get him on the bus.

Yes, it's not the (expected) death of a 96 year old woman that's upset me, it's the whole historical and societal factors. A jolt bringing the end of an era.

Plus, the reminder of my gran. 😟

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 09/09/2022 12:03

I don't feel sad about her death per se although I did have goosebumps when they actually announced her death on the news. I feel bereft that through all the shite over the last few years, the Queen has been there solidly behind the country, and it feels like an important part of our history is over, and the like won't be seen again for a very long time. My daughter was gutted bless her.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 09/09/2022 12:04

She reminded me so much of gran as well Fluffy. A similar cheeky smile.

FireflyGirl · 09/09/2022 13:58

She was born in the same year as my Nana, and we share a birthday, so I've always had a soft spot. Plus I admire her - she dedicated herself to what she believed was important and right for the country.

I wondered earlier in the week, though, when Liz Truss went to Balmoral.

We've spent the last couple of evenings painting the soon-to-be-study. We're just doing it Magnolia for the first coat on the new plaster, then going to paint it this colour. Because I like it, and the rest of the house is bloody magnolia!

CrazyBaubles · 09/09/2022 14:37

My Nan was a full on royalist and she absolutely loved the Queen. In my head they're a kind of connected.

Lovely colour you've gone for Firefly!

No news from the garage yet so I'm going to call them 😫

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/09/2022 17:51

I was surprised how quick it was from the revelation about her health to her passing . They must've known she was very near before releasing details?

I'm not a fan of the Royal Family at all (my DS keeps telling me it costs pence to the Tax Payer per head and the money they bring in through tourism)
The last 18 months must've been extremely tough for her , Philips illness and death,
I do admire how she kept her work ethic right to the end , you cannot say that about many others ?

Waiting for a car service/MOT is nailbiting Crazy

My DS passed his Driving Theory Test today - I treated him to a McDonalds , though as he made me drive him there and wait for him he should've treated me Xmas Hmm . He did study diligently , got a good pass mark . Now looking towards his actual Test , goodness knows how far ahead they're booking though.

NerosFiddle · 09/09/2022 17:55

Well done to your DS 70.

I'm not a royalist or monarchist, so fell no great sadness. But it was a historical moment.

The networks must have known that she had already died. They were all wearing black from around 2 on.

WreckTangled · 09/09/2022 18:21

Well done to your ds 70

I knew about the queen a little bit before it was announced and I know someone. Won’t be anymore specific on here. They were told a different time of death to the public though at first so not sure.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/09/2022 18:37

To be honest, it was obviously going to end with her dying. You could tell that by the words used during the day. It was just a case of when. Being kept 'comfortable' is always the euphemism for heading towards death.

Well done to your DS, 70!

OP posts:
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/09/2022 18:46

Thank you all for the DS congratulations .

He is a little swine though "Oh , you didn't have to sit a theory test in your day"

"No , as long as we could crank the handle to start the car and didn't run over the bloke walking in front with he flag we were a Pass"
Xmas Wink

TheWoollybacksWife · 09/09/2022 19:30

Well done to your DS 70 I took a theory test and got 100% but I didn't take my test until I was 30

I'm also strangely moved by all the royal coverage. I could do without all the vox pops fillers on the Beeb but the tributes have been very emotional to watch and the King's speech this evening was perfectly pitched.

I do love a bit of pomp and ceremony too.

WreckTangled · 10/09/2022 06:18

106 morning! You can tell the weather’s hanging when you wake up and the windows look like this..

I’m taking the dc to Bath today to see my sister. Long way for a day drip but it’ll be good fun.

Morning!

Proper autumnal windows, Wreck!

We're harvesting potatoes today, so I'll be doing my Christmas spuds later on. 🥔 🥔

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/09/2022 09:10

I was just thinking (as this is the Christmas Countdown in the Christmas Thread) that I have never in all of my many years on earth watched tHe Queens Speach on Christmas Day .
I've heard bits when it was repeated but never sat down and thought "It's on now"

Next year I might try growing potatoes in a container , them harvest them as baby new potatoes
