Bottle of half decent champagne and a £100 spa gift voucher should do it

Dropdeadfred · 20/12/2007 21:47

whatever he thinks she's worth....

anyway if it's a well thought out gift the financial cost isn't important is it?

DontWantToLookTight · 20/12/2007 21:48

oh bollocks and bollocks, I know you're right. he only wanted to spend about £45, and kept telling me off every time I tried to spend more. He will have to go and get a nice voucher tomorrow.

why his is salary relevant to the topic in hand?

But would agree that a spa day would be nice.

susiecutiemincepies · 20/12/2007 21:49

well, i dont think it matters what either of them earn really.

It should just be something appropriate for their professional relationship.

does he know what kind of thing she likes? I really dont think it should be ANY more than £30 and that is being very generous.

sorry, not alot of use, but maybe a little ?

DontWantToLookTight · 20/12/2007 21:49

she's really good, but we're not minted with me not working and big mortgage etc, but that's not her prob iyswim

Jo Malone
Space NK
Her favourite perfume
A big bouquet saying "thanks" on the card delivered at home so she doesn't have to wrestle home with them on the train

Not chocs

In my dreams....

ArcticRoll · 20/12/2007 21:50

I would think around £50

bananabox · 20/12/2007 21:51

Ahem - I'd be very careful about saying that you are not minted when DH earns £135k - it will all kick off - mind my words

mydhearnsmorethanyours · 20/12/2007 21:51

OK - namechanged here too for same reasons but dh earns more than yours (ner ner ner ner ner ) and I guess his sec earns similar although probably slightly more too.

I usually end up getting her present and I always buy nice bath stuff and spend £30-35. This year we got her molton brown stuff.

BroccoliSpears · 20/12/2007 21:52

Respective salaries irrelevent.

£20 - £30 (smellies or candles or similar) is appropriate and generous in my opinion.

DontWantToLookTight · 20/12/2007 21:52

have already got some nice body wash and lotion, and a smelly candle. He has to give it to her tomorrow. he is shit, he hasn;t even found out the nam,e of her husband and child for me, not worked with her very long. Think will add a bottle of champagne in, think we have one..............

OP posts:
bananabox · 20/12/2007 21:53

blimey - I'm obviously way too generous

beautifulsnowydays · 20/12/2007 21:53

you're not minted!

Beachcomber · 20/12/2007 21:53

So what is your defintion of minted then?

DontWantToLookTight · 20/12/2007 21:53

lol mydh......, good that you think £35 is OK....hmmmmmmm

OP posts:
WendyWeber · 20/12/2007 21:54

Just don't get her one of these!!!

I got one today from an employer, it is well-meant but it's HUGE! and HIDEOUS! and I hate poinsettias!!!

kerryk · 20/12/2007 21:55

i am looking for a career change, what can i do to earn £125,000.

DontWantToLookTight · 20/12/2007 21:55

sorry, OK I know it's a lot, and didn't want to sound insensitive. I've had shit all before, and really appreciate whAt we have now, so sorry if sounded crap.

OP posts:
mydhearnsmorethanyours · 20/12/2007 21:55

Thats what we've spent on her for a few years and she's still very nice to me when I ring up so it must be about right.

Actually a friend of mine is a sec to a very very top bod in accountancy and he probably spends less than this each year. His wife he spends less than this on her I would say.

bananabox · 20/12/2007 21:56

Kerry - sell your soul and join the rat race

Bluestocking · 20/12/2007 21:56

Oh god, the poor woman (and all the secretaries in the case). I can't be alone in loathing scented candles, not wanting other people to choose my bath products, and thinking that a day stuck in a tastelessly remodelled stately home wearing nothing but a white bathrobe and paper pants sounds like a day in HELL. A large, beautiful bunch of flowers from a decent florist (none of your Interflora crap) might just possibly be acceptable, but if you are in London you are unlikely to be able to get anything acceptable for less than £75.

redcabbage · 20/12/2007 21:57

Maybe I'm stingy but £100 seems a bit much to spend regardless of salary. my dh is on a similar wage (and that does not make us minted) I would spend about £40.

mydhearnsmorethanyours · 20/12/2007 21:57

oops - repeated myself a bit there in my attempt to be witty. I meant to say he always gets bath stuff too (and not that 'posh' either).
