fantastic thread - typical 'mumsnet'

I always wonder when reading a thread like this, "why do people sound pissed off that somebody earns a good salary" or not necessarily pissed off but perhaps shocked or weirded out about it.

I think - bloody hell. Good on ya!

I have recently started back at work, managing a multi-million pound deal (I live in Africy where it's a couple of billion).

I quite admire it when people can be open about there earnings potential (doesn't have mean announcing the specific amount to all and sundry). I am embarrassed to tell my family that I am doing well - WTF is this all about I wonder?

hercules1 · 23/12/2007 13:39

WHat a strange thread. PErsonally I would rather not have the money but have a dh at home more with the kids. That said, 125 in London with just one person working is not a massive amount and doesn't make you hugely rich at all.
I can't see how the op is a bragging post. It's putting it into context.
I would say about 20-30 personally on something nice.

don't have a problem with someone earning shedloads, do when they get an attitude about it - 'ooh, I deserve this money because I am so hard-working/clever/talented' implying that anyone who earns less isn't.

TheMNPeacekeepingForce · 23/12/2007 14:27

My earlier point Edam was that I think very very few people would say that kind of thing or think it. I hate to say it but I think some people project that kind of thinking onto others when it isn't actually present.

no need for big pressie -much better to be nice all the year - what about letting the scretary go home much earlier at christmas. Some flowers for the desk also good.
