Boxing Day... what are you up to?

MsMiaWallace · 26/12/2021 11:55

Just sat watching telly with kids.
Planned to go out for a walk but weather is awful.
Just ate x2 brandy snaps.

What's everyone else up to?

Kids are with their dad and I have some horrible lurgy that's making me look sideways at the LFT packet and wonder if I need to do one. DP is playing a computer game he's been saving for this period of downtime (between fetching me tea and painkillers) whilst I lie on the other sofa under a duvet and a snoring cat, half watching his game, half mumsnetting and trying to find the energy to read my book.

I'm both grateful I'm not trying to parent when ill and annoyed I can't tackle my long list of things I wanted to do whilst the kids were away.

Mostly in annoyed we have a fridge full of delicious food and I can't think of a single thing I actually want to eat

OMICHristmasOn · 26/12/2021 12:39

had planned a chill day, turns out it's going to be a not very chilled 10 days

MatildaJayne · 26/12/2021 12:39

My 3 20-something kids are spending the day with their dad. I’m having a well deserved rest and will go to the cinema later on my own, my Boxing Day traditional treat.

Twobigsapphires · 26/12/2021 12:41

Currently feeling sorry for myself on the sofa. Had a crappy couple of days non stop hosting, cooking, entertaining and stroppy teens. Pj day for me. Dh has already taken the decals down as he’s pissed off with how moody everyone is. Contemplating cracking open the wine and shutting myself away in the bedroom.

Cerridwen83 · 26/12/2021 12:44

DH has claimed the TV to play Call of Duty on the ps4 (one of his presents) so am planning a soak in the bath in a minute. Then will relax with a book or magazine.

Snacks/cold meats etc planned for later, with a film or two.

CandyCaneLane0 · 26/12/2021 12:45

I've got covid and I'm slightly hungover so staying in bed watching telly and stuffing my faceXmas Smile

MrsPnut · 26/12/2021 12:45

I’ve had a smoked salmon bagel and considering a shower and getting dressed. Today will be spent lounging around eating leftovers and chocolate.

I might find time to finish my book today and then work out what I want to watch on TV tonight too. I try to plan most of the time between Christmas and New Year like this though so we can completely recharge our batteries.

BoredAndUnfulfilled · 26/12/2021 12:45

Had a long lie in this morning, followed by a bit of cleaning/tidying up. Currently sat on the sofa with a coffee, New Age music and incense are on, and I’m going to spend the afternoon reading my tarot cards and doing some goal setting/life planning for the coming year.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 26/12/2021 12:46

Am at work.

Work in a care home with adults with LD and I love them so it’s fine.

Am having a nice cosy day.

eitak22 · 26/12/2021 12:48

Having our big Christmas meal as at DMs and we normally do something different every Christmas day since Ddad died 5 years ago.

Have been for a nice walk and will probably go for another this evening if weather holds and will play some board games too.

NewBeta · 26/12/2021 12:48

Off to football!!! COYI

Lindy2 · 26/12/2021 12:52

DH is driving the MIL home. She's been here since Christmas Eve so that's plenty long enough for me.

The rest of the day will be spent just relaxing and grazing on all the Christmas food.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 26/12/2021 12:55

This morning we all took the dogs out for a lovely walk, me DH and three adult DC and their partners. Now DH is in the kitchen getting food sorted. I love days like this but they all leave tomorrow and I will be so sad. We are then (hopefully!) off to see family a few hours away. Have a lovely Boxing Day all!

Twiglets1 · 26/12/2021 12:56

I’m at a spa with my adult daughter... hardly anyone else here so the hot tubs have no queue for once... bliss

ImInStealthMode · 26/12/2021 12:57

On call for work (travel company) and there's been a few hiccups so I'm worried to leave the house in case I need to take a customer call or log into our systems.

So TV, jigsaw puzzles and a glass of wine later.

Tomorrow I'll make sure to go outside!

twinkie100 · 26/12/2021 12:58

Travelling home from staying with family today, in order to be back for a different family get-together tomorrow.

Lunch has been chips at a service station 😂 but am cooking something nice for dinner and we're all looking forward to relaxing at home after a few days away.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 26/12/2021 12:58

Playground this morning, zoo this afternoon!

How can everyone else have such chilled days? My kids need to be walked outside for about 5 hours a day… no exaggeration!

Thickasmincepie · 26/12/2021 12:59

Nothing. I'm that irritating person who can't keep still- and struggles when other people do nothing either. Boxing day is the day I give myself permission to do fuck all. Although I've put a wash on.
Mainly working out what to watch next on telly.

AnotherMansCause · 26/12/2021 13:01

Got a bit of a cold, so I'm relaxing in the living room under a blanket, watching DD build lego & drinking hot blackcurrant squash.

AlbertBridge · 26/12/2021 13:03

I was up at 7.30 - hoovering, cleaning, laundry, etc. Sounds awful but it was blissful, creating calm.

Then showered and got ready with all my new beauty gifts. Then made an unexpectedly delicious, healthy turkey soup that I'll never be able to recreate as I did it without a recipe. Now I'm on the bed watching Call the Midwife Christmas special.

Best day ever.

ElleGettingBetter · 26/12/2021 13:04

Absolutely nothing.

I’ve had a week off work and I spent it moving bedrooms around and decorating everywhere so my daughter had a bedroom big enough to house her new Barbie Dreamhouse.

I finished at 10pm Christmas Eve after four solid days of painting and building furniture. I’m separated from their dad so I had all the shopping and wrapping, general shit to do too

Yesterday was lovely but exhausting, so today is pyjamas, snacking and playing with toys.

The Dreamhouse still doesn’t fit in her new room though Blush

Inextremis · 26/12/2021 13:04

Bubble 'n squeak with fried eggs for breakfast, now relaxing and about to play Elder Scrolls Online for a while, then maybe have a glass of something festive a bit later, followed by putting the turkey/ham salad together and eating it together with DH and friend. Might wander down the garden with the dogs if the rain holds off (DH took them out this morning). Determined to actually cut into this year's Christmas cake later, too - other years it just sits there being decorative and never gets eaten!

BarbaraLoganPrice · 26/12/2021 13:04

We're at home doing nothing. DS is playing with Playmobil, DD is upstairs in her room, baby is asleep. DH is cooking, I'm browsing the sales on my laptop.
We were supposed to host a party today but DC all have chickenpox so we've cancelled it. So we're having a huge Christmas dinner with just us, and will watch the Christmas film this afternoon. Actually very glad we've had to change our plans!

Kenwouldmixitup · 26/12/2021 13:06

Uni library working on my Masters. So grateful to have this commitment, able to glide through family strifes Grin

onedayoranother · 26/12/2021 13:08

Cat woke me up early so I've been downstairs for a while. Had breakfast, emptied dishwasher then sat and been watching tv, polishing off a big Aero bar in the process (!!). My 16 year old came down for breakfast and I haven't seen my son, who I assume fell back asleep after I said hi this morning. I need a shower and to wash some of the non dishwasher friendly Christmas stuff, but inertia has taken hold! My son will walk the dogs and I am cooking a roast later.
