The postman has just been and the last chance I had for a Christmas card from my friend of 43 years has passed. She stopped communicating with me a couple of months ago and refuses to tell me why. I thought she might reach out at Christmas. So, whilst my family are telling me she's not a good friend and to forget about her, I'm sitting here feeling sad.

That's so difficult. I can imagine how sad and confused you feel.

May be able to get some cheap after (we are just us tomorrow but have family/friends round during the next week) but apparently they’ve already got rid of Christmas stock in various shops. I suppose there will be Easter eggs in their place by new year

The letter from Santa hasn't appeared and the postman has just been. DS hasn't noticed the lack of it yet, but I'm expecting him to shortly!

I've spent much of this week painting the spare room, rushing to get it done before Xmas so that ds1 (25) has a nice room to sleep in instead of the sofa.

He told me that he wouldn't be sleeping in there because of paint fumes (of which there are hardly any, as the window has been open and candles have been burning almost constantly).

I had to fight the urge to stuff a paintbrush up his nose tbh.

New year , new start. Friendships should be easy , fun and supportive. They should bring you more joy than sadness. You don't have that with this person if you are wasting Christmas eve feeling sad. Time to shake off the gloom and live your life without this fun sponge.

DH and I both caught the plague. We came out of isolation more or less exactly when every Christmas tree within transportable distance (we don't have a car, it would need to be a bus trip) sold out.

I have improvised. We now have a Christmas lava lamp

It’s all happening here today, dog knocked over mop bucket while I was mopping and flooded the kitchen floor. So I’m cleaning that up and the kids have let him upstairs where he’s ripped up a puppy mat everywhere!! The house is a tip I have a mountain of washing to get put away, and DH is napping on the sofa🙃 I’m usually so organized I don’t even know what’s happening today🤣 but we are all healthy and happy that’s what I keep reminding myself...

Small in comparison but it's hammering down here and me + 2 small DC need to go out to pick up my prescription. Just gone to put them in the car to discover DP has taken my car to work as he didn't fancy getting diesel last night... but my car HAS THE CARSEATS for the kids, so now I have to walk in the rain

I was hoovering the stairs (should have known better) and the bloody drum got knocked off, sending fluff, dust and general shite all down the stairs to the doorway

So sorry to hear that. It was lovely of you to send a card. I've recently started exchanging cards again with a friend I fell out with a few years ago, so yours may well come around yet (or hopefully it's just pressures of living in a pandemic and they're not coping with keeping in touch at the moment)

Family did LFTs this morning and eldest was +ve. PCR test done, but now have to wait for confirmation. All plans up in the air. Eating chocolate and drinking wine to ease the uncertainty.

That's all right then! Just about to get into the port and banana bread (we don't do milk and cookies, and as I said, no mincepies because CBA) and start the wrapping.

Hoping DSs both actually ^stay" in their beds, and don't wander through to the loo, like they usually do!

DH tested positive last night. Fully gutted. So much food here as we were meant to host Christmas. He's feeling like crap. I'm tidying and feeling slowly worse as the days getting on

DH and myself are in isolation as we are close contacts - as in had an early Christmas with adult son who tested covid positive the next day, and his family, and other adult son. Just us for Christmas and a. ridiculous amount of food we will never eat, and 3 households in isolation, and my dear elderly mum is now spending Christmas alone, as I cannot even go and see her (she was coming to ours for lunch). On the bright side, booze and chocolates are plentiful, and I will have smoked salmon for breakfast.

We're having Xmas dinner today because DH is a shift worker. We invited MIL and BIL for dinner. Huge back story but basically they're not arsed with us. Only really bother at birthdays , Xmas etc always hard work . We told them dinner is being served at 1pm and with ten minutes to go there's no sign of them....

So next year it's back to normal with only us 3 .

Make sure.you have your lovely lunch at the time you said you were having it. If they turn up late then they can take their coats off and join in late with mains , or pudding if they have missed the first bit. Do not wait for them or you will be waiting for them forever more.

We have gone away for Xmas with my DM. She so far has made barbed comments about the 2 year old screaming at 2am and 4am. She found it difficult to get back to sleep apparently. not a single offer to get up with the DC so I can lie in, take them for a walk, read them a bloody book. No, it's all just moaning about the noise and criticizing the telly being on at 6am.

Oh and I'm doing all the cooking and no one thought to clean up last night after I took tantrumming 2 year old to bed so I cleaned the bombsite kitchen at 5.45am as well.

On the plus side the holiday house is very large and very empty so much quicker to tidy than our normal sized and very cluttered home

Our relatives have sent all out gifts by post but they've all been delivered in my name in non-descript boxes, and not giftwrapped. I have no idea whose is whose, so have to wrap them all myself to avoid any spoiled surprises, and will see my own gift while I'm wrapping them Obviously, it's lovely to receive any gift when so many are struggling, sorry I sound a bit spoilt!

That, and trying to work from home during our neighbour's camp karaoke marathon is getting right on my tits.

Idiot brother went to Wetherspoons over weekend after we warned him bout omicron . Has now spoilt his kids (he is separated ) and my mums Xmas. Doesn't really affect me but I'm very irritated by his selfishness.
