I’ve par-boiled the potatoes and cooled them off, chopper the carrots and parsnips and have the parsnips in water.

What else can I prep today?

I'll make a cheesecake as a pudding option (a no cook one).

I think that's all I am doing today. I might take the end off the sprouts too.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 24/12/2021 09:17

fresh batch of mince pies
parboil spuds
make the stuffing
make dough for pistachio and parmesan sablés to have with drinks

LawnFever · 24/12/2021 09:18

Making the jelly bit of the trifle Smile

CornishGem1975 · 24/12/2021 09:20

Make stuffing, prep all the veg (potatoes, sprouts, carrots, parsnips), make the trifle. I might get the sprout gratin thing ready to bake tomorrow and was contemplating making the Yorkshire puddings too.

Yesterday I cooked the ham, mince pies, stuffing...

I actually love all the prep!

Rainbowabacus1 · 24/12/2021 09:26

Ooo I didn’t think about making the Yorkshires. Do you cook them properly and reheat?

OP posts:
CornishGem1975 · 24/12/2021 09:27

Yes, I have done in previous years, although I might just do them ahead in the morning. I just stick them back in the oven for 5 mins at the end.

dementedma · 24/12/2021 09:27

Absolutely fuck all. Not hosting this year and loving it

Perpetualstateofchaos · 24/12/2021 09:27

I've got my gammon, turkey and Yorkshire puds cooking atm beef will be done later today. About to par boil my potatoes and prep carrots. Mince pies and pigs in blankets will be made up later.

Skyeheather · 24/12/2021 09:28

Parboil potatoes and parsnips, make red cabbage in slow cooker, make jelly and custard parts of the trifle leaving the cream for tomorrow. I would like to lay the table but I have a toddler who would destroy it!

InDubiousBattle · 24/12/2021 09:32

Today I'm going to make the carrot and Swede mashed up, red cabbage and the braised celery so they're just to reheat tomorrow. I'll make smoked mackerel and chicken liver pate for the starter too. Snow Queen needs doing and a batch of Rocky road. Mince pies obviously!

apinions · 24/12/2021 09:33

If I chop all my carrots today, should I leave them in a saucepan in water on the hob? Or should I put them in a container in the fridge?

I have Paxo stuffing. Can I totally make and then re-heat, or will it be too dry? I'm thinking of just mixing with water today, putting in ovenproof dish and then putting in fridge to cook tomorrow?

I've already parboiled my potatoes and frozen them. I'll roast them from frozen tomorrow.

Pleasenomoreglitter · 24/12/2021 09:36

How do you store the potatoes once parboiled? I've not tried doing them ahead before.

GertrudeKerfuffle · 24/12/2021 09:52

I like the Mary Berry method for roast potatoes, where you part-roast them and then you just bung them in the oven for 30 mins on the day.

ivykaty44 · 24/12/2021 09:53

yesterday I prepped the cauliflower cheese, the braised red cabbage and there in the fridge ready to roast and later pop in microwave

ive peeled potato, carrots and parsnips ready for roasting

cooked the Yorkshires puddings - they always take to long on xmas day as power is so low with everyone cooking

prepped the merat with garlic and rosemary - we are eating lamb

have got the ham in the slow cooker in cola

Brussels are ready to go in the oven

so only the stuffing to prep and it all just timings tomorrow and pop in oven

GertrudeKerfuffle · 24/12/2021 09:53

Once they've been part roasted, I leave them out on the side covered with a tea towel.

CornishGem1975 · 24/12/2021 09:55

Carrots I leave in water on the hob, sprouts I trim and put in food bags in the fridge.

Don't see why you couldn't prep the stuffing today but with Paxo I'd probably cook it tomorrow.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 24/12/2021 09:55

Red cabbage
Gammon
Peel veg
Make Yule log

LadyCampanulaTottington · 24/12/2021 09:56

Gravy! DH is making everything else.

CornishGem1975 · 24/12/2021 09:56

Where do people keep their par-boiled or pre-roasted potatoes? Can I just stick them in the garage?

SantaMonicaPier · 24/12/2021 09:58

Peeling all veg. Making a brownie. Will prob prep stuffing but not cook it. Cooking a gammon.

StCharlotte · 24/12/2021 10:02

Meringue for the pavlova, stuffing balls and the potatoes will be peeled by someone.

Loopielu · 24/12/2021 10:04

I've made stuffing, prepping the turkey today with a sage butter. Making a stock with the giblets soon. Making mash and cauliflower cheese today to finish off in the oven tomorrow. Prepping spuds and other veg too, brocoli, carrots and sprouts. I'm on my own with 3 children so I need to be super organised so that I'm not in the kitchen all day. Luckily no guests but my children love a good roast.

Peridot1 · 24/12/2021 10:07

DH will cook the ham.

I’ll make the stuffing.

DS will make brownies.

It’s only the three of us for Xmas so not too much prep involved really.

We are doing fondue tonight so we will prep a bit for that later too.

User2638483 · 24/12/2021 10:09

Just us for lunch tomorrow (covid Christmas) so I’m not doing any of the main meal as we can be chilled and do that tomorrow.

But I will finish decorating the Christmas cake (that I made last minute for myself as I’m the only one that likes it 😂)
And I will make the sticky toffee pudding.

mbosnz · 24/12/2021 10:09

Braised Red Cabbage
Stuffing
Gluten free pastry cases for lemon meringue tarts
Chocolate mousse
Ginger cake

If you ever think a trio of desserts for Christmas day sounds a good idea - it really, really *isn't'. . .
