Well, Morrison's cancelled my christmas delivery

After telling me it would be 2 hours late, so keeping me waiting until after the store was closed (got stuck with the last slot as got no notification about them opening the bloody bookings so had to take the dregs). Now I get to go shopping on christmas eve, which is particularly wonderful as I'm CEV. Obviously all tomorrows slots are long gone, the earliest I can rebook is the 27th.

Thankfully all xmas dinner is bought already as I've read so many warning posts about subs. But we still need 'normal' food for the next few days.

They'd better be planning a serious apology gesture to all the customers who got let down. At least they didn't make the driver work until 2am, which would be objectively worse!

Oh that's awful OP.

Do you have an Amazon account? I'm wondering if you can order through the 'Amazon Fresh' bit? I think that's next day delivery.

Also my DS has downloaded the Getir App and the Gorilla one. They deliver groceries and they're dishing out discounts and promotions like they're going out of fashion so a good time to join Thanks

JelloFish · 24/12/2021 00:37

Asda have done the same to us. Fuck sake. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Was due at 8 got a text saying they would be late and will be with us about 10. Heard nothing since. Not looking forward to tomorrow.

SilverDragonfly1 · 24/12/2021 00:39

Thank you, I appreciate the sympathy :)

I could actually do with some advice- is it better to go as early as possible or a bit later in the day when it will be busier but they might have done a re-stock?

Got to go to bed now, but will be up early to check replies.

Iny experience, shopping on the 23rd is hell (and I needed to go today) but Christmas eve isnt as bad. I hope you get some sort of apology gesture but I was massively let down by Asda delivery a couple of years back and treated awfully by customer service on top of that, so I wouldn't be surprised if they don't care

RestingPandaFace · 24/12/2021 00:41

Very first thing as soon as it opens. When our supermarket was 24 hour pre-Covid I used to go about quarter to six before work.

Lorriestakingppe · 24/12/2021 00:41

I'd go first thing OP, good luck that's just awful

beautifullymad · 24/12/2021 00:42

Early as possible and I'd do a smaller supermarket as most will go to the big superstores. If they open at 7, be there with a list, trolly and decent mask at 6.50!
You can be in, around a smaller supermarket, packed and out in 25 mins for a weekly shop.

WorraLiberty · 24/12/2021 00:43

Go early OP

They don't always re-stock, especially as they're going to be closed for Xmas Day and Boxing Day.

SilverDragonfly1 · 24/12/2021 00:44

Do have Amazon, but have just checked and a bunch of things are not on offer there. Husband has ASD and very picky about brands etc.

In our area Deliveroo will deliver from the local Co-Op.

Is there a local market nearby that might have what you need?

BluebellsGreenbells · 24/12/2021 00:50

Always empty round here by 10:30! Shelves stocked and staff doing discounts.

Most ‘go early’ and get crushed in the rush.

Christmas Eve is the best time for food shopping, half price turkey anyone?

PerkingFaintly · 24/12/2021 00:52

Last time they did this to me, they sent an email the next day saying it would now arrive that evening.

They then turned up at a random time in the morning.

I was very grateful to have it, of course, but this was on one of the very rare days I actually left the house and they came within a hairsbreadth of missing me.

PerkingFaintly · 24/12/2021 00:55

This was Morrisons, too.

Maybe phone them first to check what's happening before you go out yourself? Or can you leave someone at the house just in case they turn up?

I believe its 6am they open tomorrow, go in then and do your shopping. If its anything like a few years ago, it'll be very quiet!

Did ours at just gone 11pm tonight...a out 10 others in the store, and they were restocking everything

Good luck!

fastandthecurious · 24/12/2021 01:01

Christmas Eve is usually lots less busy than 22nd/23rd. People generally come in for last bits that they've forgotten rather than big shops.

ZenNudist · 24/12/2021 01:04

Shop early. Supermarkets open from 6am round here. Just get in, get out, home by breakfast.

Blossom64265 · 24/12/2021 01:09

Go very first thing in the morning. If you are CEV, the ideal is really to set your alarm and be there close to when the store opens. Very few people want to drag themselves out of bed that early. that is also when my local shop used to have a designated CEV shopping hour because it is when the store is cleanest and typically not busy.

suzyscat · 24/12/2021 01:11

That's so awful! So glad your Christmas dinner wasn't in there.

Do you have any grocery delivery companies in your area? I'm in a city and companies are falling over themselves to bring you small amounts of groceries within a few hours or sooner.

Aldi and I think coop are on Deliveroo.
There's Getir, one called gorillas or something.
Sainsburys have an app called chop chop where you can get basics in a couple of hours.

Good luck

Inertia · 24/12/2021 01:15

If you are CEV and need particular brands for picky husband, can picky husband not do the shop?

pinkcarpets · 24/12/2021 01:20

I went this morning at 8am and it was fine!

Kimchi · 24/12/2021 01:23

My sibling is a delivery driver for Asda and earns minimum wage. He is absolutely exhausted from all the deliveries with no proper breaks. He said he only got one tip yesterday. Please remember to be kind to your delivery drivers who are really under the pump.

Frozenlikeablockofmarble · 24/12/2021 01:38

Try Amazon Prime rather than Amazon Fresh - Morrison’s has partnered with Prime, so this will probably get you access to more ranges and products. We signed up for a month’s free trial during the first lockdown and it really saved our bacon. The picker went to the shop, pinged us live updates about this or that product being unavailable, so we could accept there and then or not, and it all came very quickly in their car. Absolutely fabulous service and we were so grateful.

AntiHop · 24/12/2021 01:41

Coop do same day home deliveries through their website

Magnited · 24/12/2021 01:54

We have a 24 hour Tesco around here so I decided to try it rather than book online. I wake early so was in there at 4am this morning and what a hive of activity hundreds of people dashing about picking to fulfil orders. It felt a bit claustrophobic negotiating the trolleys and boxes. The only downside was stopping at the cashpoint on the way out to withdraw £100. I stuffed it in my back pocket as I was pushing the trolley back to my car, but when I get home its gone. Just should have pushed it down further.

MrsFezziwig · 24/12/2021 01:58

Our Asda is open 24 hours today - go now OP!
