We were supposed to be at my mums tomorrow, but I have Covid (asymptomatic) so we can't go...inspire me with what you are having for your tea please Xmas Smile

I have an 8 and a 10 year old, not overly fussy, and will have time to cook now we aren't going anywhere!

A chateaubriand and chips!! We normally treat ourselves to T bone steaks but mum treated us to chateaubriands this year! Really looking forward to it!

MaryAndHerNet · 23/12/2021 14:31

Pizza contactless delivery.

Traditional Xmas Eve tea.

Babdoc · 23/12/2021 14:34

OP, you need to explain which meal you mean by “tea”. In the north, that tends to mean the evening dinner, in the south it tends to mean a light sandwich and cake type thing with a cup of tea at about 4pm!

sadpapercourtesan · 23/12/2021 14:35

We always have "afternoon tea" on Christmas Eve, with Christmas movies and games. This year we will be having:

Garlic and cheese Christmas Tree puff pastry tear and share thing
Sandwiches (cheese and pickle, tuna mayo, egg mayo)
Scones, clotted cream and jam
Soft amaretti biscuits
Stollen
Carrot cake
Victoria sponge
Mini chocolate bundt cakes with ganache, cherries, whipped cream and grated chocolate

Served with very twee doilies and paper plates and cups with Christmas trees on them (we're sad as fuck, aren't we)

No, in the South most of us understand that a lot of people call their evening dinner 'tea'.

And some Southerners call it that too anyway.

OP, we used to have a hot and cold buffet when the kids were small. Now they're adults, we get a takeaway or even a few different ones if not everyone can decide.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 23/12/2021 14:39

Normally something quite light. In previous years have done:
Spiced parsnip soup with star-shaped croutons
Smoked salmon quiche
Roast ham, jackets and winter slaw www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/winter-slaw-maple-candied-nuts
Maple mustard pulled pork rolls
This year I’m doing veggie sausage puff pastry plait with braised cabbage.

KatherineJaneway · 23/12/2021 14:40

For dinner Wink we're having salmon mousse, roasted salmon pate, salad and crusty rolls.

MeatyRvita · 23/12/2021 14:40

We’re having a McDonald’s or a kfc. I just don’t want to cook or do dishes 🤷‍♀️

dreamingofsun · 23/12/2021 14:42

something very easy. this year because supermarket supplied half a pig as the gammon probably that and egg and chips

WeeFae · 23/12/2021 14:43

We have a Chinese takeaway, we order all the starters so it's like a ready-cooked buffet! No cooking, doesn't mess up the kitchen and no dishes.

katienana · 23/12/2021 14:44

Buffet!
Ham
Sausage rolls
Pigs in blankets
Pate
Bread
Olives & antipasti selection
Italian smoked meats
Cheese
Crackers
Pickled onions
Halloumi fries
Quiche
Cherry toms cucumber and carrot as a concession to healthy eating!

Leftovers will carry over to boxing day.

MintJulia · 23/12/2021 14:44

Friday night is pizza night in our house, so ds will have pepperoni pizza, garlic bread and salad. Quick, easy, favourite.

Leaves me complete freedom to have early Christmas snacks Smile

girlmom21 · 23/12/2021 14:44

We're having a buffet tea - lots of picky foods and paper plates so no washing up!

GoingBackTo505 · 23/12/2021 14:49

Everyone in our house has voted for takeaway. It was between that and a buffet/picky style dinner.

Figgygal · 23/12/2021 14:55

We having curry tomorrow

froomeonthebroom · 23/12/2021 15:00

Kids are having pizza and me and DH will have nachos when he gets back from the pub.

Mushrooms0up · 23/12/2021 15:02

We’re hosting and doing a buffet:
cheese board
Cola ham
Gyozas
Spring rolls
Chicken dipper type things
Mini pies
Charcuterie
Baguette
Dips
Crisps
Carrots / celery
Big winter salad with tahini dressing
A Buche de Noel
Profiteroles

Autobahn · 23/12/2021 15:05

I hadn't thought about takeaway, not a bad shout thanks, I'll ask the troops Smile I don't want to do picky bits though as that will be every tea between Xmas and New Year Grin

'Luxury' fish pie from Sainsburys made to order menu. I'm collecting my son from 60 miles away at 8, so not sure how I'll time this. I expect I'll eat at 6pm with daughter and my son will get a takeaway later.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 23/12/2021 15:13

We’re having a baked Camembert studded with garlic and thyme and drizzled with honey, sprinkled with a handful of walnut pieces. Had with homemade ciabatta (DH’s speciality, and one of the main reasons I regularly fall off the low carb wagon!), grissini, olives, figs. Possibly also Felino Salami although I might save that for another time. Washed down with an Italian sparkling wine.

I’m sensing a distinct theme here! Should perhaps have gone for an Italian cheese as well...

🎄🎄🎄

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 23/12/2021 15:17

You could get crispy duck and pancakes (supermarket or takeaway) - one of my favourite easy treat meals!😋

traintraveller · 23/12/2021 15:18

We're having roast butternut squash and blue cheese Gnocchi

Stickytreacle · 23/12/2021 15:19

Wine and cheese evening here!

Doggydoodah123 · 23/12/2021 15:21
