My never again list:
Mugs
Tea towels
Socks
Biscuits
Jam
Wine
Tea

Drawers and cupboards bursting with all of them!

What I would always love more of:
Knitwear, esp fair isle jumpers
Scented soap (it goes in drawers to deter moths if it's too pungent/floral for hand washing)

OP posts:
Pugdogmom · 30/11/2021 13:18

Really happy with pretty much anything, except:

No to

  • proper novelty items (EG a wine glass that holds a bottle of wine) - especially rubbish when I had 3 under 5 and was breast feeding. It was a secret Santa, snd just thoughtless really

Big yes:

  • soap (bars or nice liquid hand soap)
  • anything that’s a ‘time with’ present like going out for coffee and cake - I love this
  • experience stuff
  • books
  • coffee/tea/biscuits
  • any voucher
  • gloves
-socks
  • would LOVE any craft kits/beginner knitting kits
  • earrings, especially stud everyday ones
  • lip balm
  • make up esp a single lipstick, nail varnish or mascara in a colour I wear often
  • am a community nurse so also really appreciate a spare travel mug, good ice scraper or a good CD/audiobook
2anddone · 30/11/2021 14:39

I am a childminder and every year I get mugs, smellies (which I am allergic too), Prosecco (which I don't drink) and photos of their children(I look at them all week I don't need photos of them to look at on weekends!!).
I would love gin, chocolate, candles and vouchers.

2020nymph · 30/11/2021 15:00

@Plantstrees

I suffer allergies so don't want: Wine Chocolates Flowers Cheap toiletries Candles or anything else smelly Books - other people's choices rarely match my own

Would prefer more:
Socks
Jumpers
Scarves
Non-chocolate treats like fudge or biscuits
Waterstones voucher
Fancy pens or stationery

This! Also have allergies.

MrsDThomas · 30/11/2021 17:08

Happy to accept wine, prosecco, port, money.

Don’t give me Bayliss & Harding. BIL has known me for over 20 years and every Christmas i thank him and remind him i cannot use the stuff. It fucks up my skin. Along with the Sanctuary stuff. Once had a bubble bath and it set my nether region on fire. 😦

pinkksugarmouse · 30/11/2021 23:20

I am vegan so unless you know me and fully understand what vegan means (it isn’t just about food, it’s clothing, cosmetics….) there’s little chance of getting it right for me.

Just get me some cotton bedsocks.

pinkksugarmouse · 30/11/2021 23:26

DH is the only one who buys me presents and he knows what I like. I have often been gifted things that aren’t suitable. I say thanks just pass them to someone else.

nettie434 · 01/12/2021 03:15

Anything jokey

Notdoingthis · 01/12/2021 03:27

Chocolates

YourAWizard · 01/12/2021 13:27

Not me but my poor DP! My SIL always gets him a shitty lynx set every year 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ it's actually become a running joke in our house.

escapingthecity · 02/12/2021 06:54

Nice blankets and throws can be lovely, but we already have more than enough for every bed, chair and sofa in the house.

I love books but I have a stack of unread ones from my birthday still so I'd rather have book vouchers.

OP posts:
DrGoogleSaysSo · 02/12/2021 07:59

I don't want to get any shower gels or creams. There are only a couple I can use otherwise my skin gets too itchy. Not keen on cheap jewellery as well.
Always useful:
-Pyjamas
-Fluffy socks
-Slippers
Would love:

  • vouchers
  • beanie hat
  • cozy scarf
  • a longline padded gilet
Practicebeingpatient · 02/12/2021 10:19

What I really, really want for Christmas is less clutter in my home so I've booked for a local charity to come round next week to take away unwanted appliances, books, clothes, ornaments etc. I've already given boxes of unwanted cosmetics and toiletries away on Freecycle. I will back this up by eating anything that's been in the freezer for more than 6 months, clearing out any seriously out of date store cupboard items and putting old paperwork in the recycling. I've even opted out of my friends Secret Santa group. I will attend the evening and enjoy the wine and the craic but will not be bringing an unwanted present home with me. Win-win!

The week after that I've got agency cleaners coming into blitz the house and I will then enter Christmas week looking at all the lovely space in my lovely clean house. Can't wait.

OhGiveUp · 02/12/2021 10:25

Yes please to....
Any high quality gold jewellery.

millerpie · 02/12/2021 10:28

No thanks -
Soap and Glory sets or any cheap smelly stuff, I don’t use it ever.
Anything with a quote about dogs…slogan tat.
Cava or cheap tins of biscuits

Yes please -
Anything for the garden, a bird house or pack of seeds would be perfect
M&S chocolate coins because all others are rank
White Company cashmere bed socks and turtle doves wrist warmers

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 02/12/2021 10:34

I would actually like quite a few things on your list OP!

But I don't want any more body lotion. I have stacks of the stuff, and never use it, I prefer oils.

Also no more "novelty" gin. Yes, I like gin. But I like it to actually taste of gin, so please no more flavoured stuff in light up bottles. And no chocolate because I don't often eat it but when I do I'm fussy about it!

I'd like more expensive coffee and cheese; anything with truffle in it, and some sheepskin slippers please. Oh, and flowers and plants are always welcome. Yes, I do have expensive taste as it happens!

MattDillonsEyebrows · 02/12/2021 12:06

No to:
Any kind of skin care/bodylotion/hand cream - I'm a beauty pie addict and I like what I like.
Perfume - it's so personal, why would you buy a smell you like for someone else?
Cheap candles

Whilst I'm generally happy with anything else, I feel I'd always like more of:

Any socks

Nice bar soaps

Any clothes so long as it is plain in a safe colour - navy, grey etc. I do wear colour but I only like certain ones and usually others pick wrong.

gloves/hats/scarves

user1471538283 · 02/12/2021 21:09

I really do not want lots of shit and I'm not buying loads either.

So far I know I've got one of my perfumes and I've asked everyone if I could have a small token gift or nothing because everything is so expensive. All I want is time and food with the people I love.

MajorNeville · 02/12/2021 21:15

Mugs, I had 73 when I had my kitchen redone, no wonder my cupboards were overfilled. People just keep buying me then, I don't drink tea or coffee and people know this, so why?

MynameisWa · 02/12/2021 21:18

Mugs and gin. I don’t drink bloody gin and have bottles of it.

MynameisWa · 02/12/2021 21:21

@Practicebeingpatient blimey. I like your style. I’ve done similar it’s taken me weeks of clearing out to get to a happy place. I don’t want Xmas tat ruining it!

user1471538283 · 03/12/2021 09:14

@Practicebeingpatient - that sounds fantastic! I cannot cope with too much stuff around and it makes me feel queasy with all the Christmas tat.

@MajorNeville - 73 mugs! Oh my!

Missey85 · 03/12/2021 09:23

No to bathroom gift sets its always some weird smelling scent that none wants! Have a cupboard full of hand cream and tiny soaps that will never be used

Practicebeingpatient · 03/12/2021 09:27

@Missey85

If they are unopened someone else will want them. Take to a local food bank or homeless shelter or buy on Freecycle.
