My never again list:
Mugs
Tea towels
Socks
Biscuits
Jam
Wine
Tea

Drawers and cupboards bursting with all of them!

What I would always love more of:
Knitwear, esp fair isle jumpers
Scented soap (it goes in drawers to deter moths if it's too pungent/floral for hand washing)

OP posts:
EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 28/11/2021 19:21

books (unless you know me very, very well

This really is the Roulette of the Book Lover. I have received a lot of Books About Books now @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

Basically, unless you're my DP or have been stalking my wish lists, don't buy me books! Grin
Allthesefolks · 28/11/2021 19:44

No:
Gloves/scarves/fluffy socks, I have a bajillion and no one gets my taste right
Body lotion, I’m time poor and lazy and never use it
Candles, I never use them
Jewellery, they must know how fussy I am by now
Clothes, again fussy
Gin, I love it but I rarely drink at home at the moment
Bath stuff, I don’t have time for nice relaxing baths and our bathtub is crap

Yes please:
Chocolate covered nuts (always ask and never receive)
Soaps (again I ask but don’t receive)
Gym/running stuff
An eternity ring cough cough DH
Experience vouchers - a massage, afternoon tea etc. I have so much stuff and at my age I generally buy what I want so I’d love something like this.
Garden centre vouchers

Skysblue · 28/11/2021 19:44

I love dogs. This does not mean that I want to receive dog ornaments, dog candles, dog bookends… I love dogs but I do not want to live in a dog themed house.

Clothes that I would have worn when I was twenty, in the same size I was then. My family do not seem to have realised that I (and my waistline) have changed a great deal.

A lot of the xmas presents I receive go straight to the charity shop :(

I’m middle aged! I get excited about fluffy towels and gardening. Not size ten stomach highing tops or dog bookends.

FredAndChips · 28/11/2021 19:46

No thanks:
Cheap smelly's (my skin is so sensitive)
Books (unless its off my amazon wishlist)
Pj's (i don't wear them)
Chocolate (i'm a fussy bugger)
Any kind of Gin (it's all vile!)
Bathroom towel/matt sets (always poor quality, and i will never use that thing for the base of the toilet)

More please:
Experience days
Vouchers for my favourite shops
Vinyl (if you know my tastes or at least run it past my OH)
Rubber ducks (i'm a little obsessed)
Jigsaws
Cheese

KateyKontent · 28/11/2021 19:48

@FredAndChips who the feck is buying you bath and pedestal mats for Christmas!

IAmSantaOhYesIAm · 28/11/2021 19:51

Like a pp who loves dogs and gets gifted dog related presents, it’s cats with me. Just stop now. I love my cat. I do not love cat adorned plates, mugs or baubles!

I’d love more toiletries and scented candles!! But not rose or lavender scents thank you!

Porthia · 28/11/2021 19:56

Funny how many things are the same on most peoples lists!

For me, it’s a no for:

  • cheap toiletries sets
  • cocktail sets / spirits of any kind - don’t mind gin if not flavoured but I rarely drink it
  • clothes unless it’s a big jumper or socks
  • ornaments of any kind unless you know my taste very well
  • sweet smelling candles or perfume
  • sweets (I like chocolate but not sweets as such)

Yes please:

  • champagne
  • vouchers
  • books
  • posh candles
  • experiences
FredAndChips · 28/11/2021 20:02

@KateyKontent my FIL, along with tea towels. I love the tea towels, i've not had to buy any in years, but the bath sets are awful!

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 28/11/2021 20:19

No more:

Gin (I don't like it and don't think I ever will)
Bubble bath
Hand cream/ body lotion
Food that has dairy products in it
Things with elephants on (yes I did like them but that was 3 decades ago)
Random ornaments
Poinsettias ( please no more!)

I do like:
Dark chocolate
Rum
Oatcakes
Good jam
Home made iced ginger cake
A meal out

Seems a bit food related! I don't want more "stuff".

HappySonHappyMum · 28/11/2021 20:22

No to:
Food
Drink (teetotal)
Ornaments
Flowers (hate arranging them)
Clothes
Toiletries (Eczema and sensitive skin)

Yes to:
Anything Harry Potter
Fancy stationery
Books - or vouchers for books
Very Dark Chocolate
Arts and Crafts stuff
Needlecraft kits

GellerYeller · 28/11/2021 20:23

No thanks: Posh chocolates
Anything with inspirational slogans or 'gin o clock' hilariously emblazoned on it.

Yes please: perfume
After eights/Roses/Quality Street/Chocolate Orange. Fine by me, it's Christmas!
Sherry
Pyjamas
Anything consumable basically. No one needs duty bought gift sets and tat for the cupboards.

Violinist64 · 28/11/2021 20:23

No thank you to:
Toiletries (allergies)
Wine (almost teetotal)
Puzzles
Candles
Biscuits unless gluten free
Nutty chocolates
Yes please to:
Books
Stationery
Chocolates (although not Thornton’s, Ferraro Rocher or Guylian)
Good quality black or green teas
Leather gloves
Gloves or mittens + bobble hat
Gluten free shortbread
Purse

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 28/11/2021 20:29

No thanks to
any alcohol (don't drink)
Scented candles (give me a headache)
The female version of lynx

Funny so many saying about owl experiences - I'd definitely say yes. My hubby has actually bought me a falconry glove this year for Christmas (it will get used - I volunteer at a wildlife centre)

Ducksareruiningmypatio · 28/11/2021 20:32

Lush and other nasty, quirky toiletries
Socks
T shirts
Jewellery that I'm allergic to
Hats
Scarves
Gloves
Mugs
Hot chocolate (I still have some from 2 Christmases ago, it was hotel chocolat so overpriced too. It needs binning
Books

You know what? just buy me chocolate.(not cheap stuff. No milk tray or roses etc.)

HerRoyalHappiness · 28/11/2021 20:34

My never again: wine. I dont drink it. Never have

What I wish I got more of: fluffy socks! I love fluffy socks.

2bazookas · 28/11/2021 20:38

Please don't give me any skin/hair lotions/potions. Or stuff to put in the bath. Or clothes.

Ducksareruiningmypatio · 28/11/2021 20:38

Actually I agree with the experience days
I was bought a helicopter ride for my birthday once.
Seems an amazing gift at first.
Except I had to drive an hour and a half to get to it and it was only a 10 minute flight!
I paid more to upgrade it to make it worth my while.
It was like a conveyer belt, tiny seating area outside, overpriced refreshments etc.
I paid double the cost of the actual gift which was bloody annoying as it wasn't something I'd have chosen for myself.

shiningjustforyou · 28/11/2021 20:52

Any smellies apart from perfume I already use/like.

I have really sensitive skin so end up giving away the endless hand cream/body lotion/bubble bath sets.

No live laugh love crap.

Nothing personalised.

Courtier · 28/11/2021 20:53

Wellies (I live in C London and have a good pair why would I need more pairs?).

Bath bombs (allergic).

Perfume (see above).

Chocolates (I don't need the help to gain weight).

I'd like: bar soap, candles, books, pens, wool socks, jumpers., cookware.

mewkins · 28/11/2021 20:55

I once did a fly a light aircraft thing. It was terrifying. No idea why my own mother would put me through that Grin
Butterbean11 · 28/11/2021 20:59

No to any type of toiletries. I like my own brands, not gift sets from Boots!

WorriedMillie · 28/11/2021 21:18

I’m generally very grateful for any gift, but I prefer to try on clothes. I also have lots of pairs of PJs, good quality PJs that last for years, so there’s no more room in my PJ drawer!

I love

Bamboo socks
Warm socks (I’ve got horses)
Nice shower gel/bubble bath
Prosecco or merlot
Hand cream
White company tea lights
Nice stationery
Crafty bits/beads
Hotel chocolat alcoholic fruit covered in chocolate
Maltesers
Marzipan chocolates
Neutral eyeshadows

KnottyKnitting · 28/11/2021 21:25

No thanks-
Hats scarves and gloves. I never wear them and my MiL seems to give them every Christmas to everyone. In fact the set she gave my nephew the year before last was exactly the same as the set she gave him the Christmas before!

Blossom hill type wine- yuk!

Owl ornaments- I used to collect them as a teenager and my dad still buys them for me- I wouldn't mind so much but the last one he bought was enormous and scares the life out of me every time I see it in the dark!

Scented candles- I never burn them and I have banned the DDs from doing this due to the waxy residue it leaves on tiles and walls!

Harding and Baylis shit or any other hand soap and the like in plastic bottles.

Yes please-
Nice notebooks
Nice quality yarn and knitting related products
Posh gin
Nice red wine
Subscription to sheet music websites

WhenSepEnds · 28/11/2021 21:26

@ZaZathecat

This has been very useful for my Christmas shopping. No-one will receive a gift set and everyone will get an owl experience. Job done.
