i love it when people by ds clothes - they are needed and he has tonnes of toys that take up too much room!! my friend seems to think people should only buy things that can provide her dc with entertainment

If I like them then no, if they are fleecy and chav, then yes!!

SantasElasticKnickers · 15/12/2007 20:36

bil did buy my dc's clothes, but they were dsappointed, it was one year we had been particularly lean with presents as well.
but on the whole, i don't mind.

Wallace · 15/12/2007 20:37

I like it, but I do wish people would buy appropriate sizes. Last Christmas ds2 was 5months and most people bought him 12-18 months. Winter stuff too which he has now grown out of...

gigglewitchyouamerrychristmas · 15/12/2007 20:37

i was trying to figure out how to say well actually yes i think people buying them clothes is great...cos that is how the title seemed
then i saw your op!
bring it on

SeaShells · 15/12/2007 20:38

I'm not keen on people buying my dcs clothes for christmas/birthdays, I think it's because they don't like it and always look slightly dissapointed. Theyre always desperate fo new clothes and yes have lots of toys, and from my point of view would much prefer something usefull but a gift for them should be just that.

I love people buying my children anything for Christmas. Close friends ask. Anyone else who buys... thank you very very much. I love clothes because my DS is behind the age thingy, so I always have lovely new clothes at the beginning of Winter next year if you know what I mean.

I love people buying them clothes. Usually they are in second-hand. The house is stuffed with toys. New clothes - fantastic! When ppl ask what dcs want I very often ask for clothes. Bring it on!!!

chocolatespiders · 15/12/2007 20:51

i love my dc's getting clothes but they def do not like getting clothes

PersonalChristmasElf · 15/12/2007 21:03

I'm with Wallace here. I did love them if people asked about Ds. He may coming up for 6 years old but he's huge!
He's currently in 8 year old clothes, and all his trousers have to have adjustable waists as he's a skinny runt.
He's almost as bad to shop for as me and I'm 6ft with long legs.

ah thanks for this thread.
I am a clothes buyer.
feel so guilty about it that this year ive bought books as a theme.
I get clothes through the year BUt feel some how like its a cop out.
I can do clothes very well and cheaply as i have 18 kids to buy for at christmas.

Not well recieved im afraid.

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 15/12/2007 21:09

i can understand older children not thinking much of clothes but say for 2/3 year olds they surely wouldn't care what they got? i usually do books or dvds cos i can get them all in one shop and usually on some sort of offer and it isn't a huge ordeal getting them home on the bus!

I buy friends children pyjamas at Christmas usually the next size up as they are always needed. You can also buy some fun PJs too which are a bit different from the usual boring clothes. I also throw in some little present and some chocs.

harpsichordcarrier · 15/12/2007 21:13

good lord what an attitude
clothes are great

LittleSleighBellasRinging · 15/12/2007 21:15

No I don't, I'm glad they do.

Saves me buying them.

chocolatespiders · 15/12/2007 21:15

one thing i do love my kids being bought is pyjamas.... as they are normally really nice ones, i cant bear to spend loads on pj's even though i love them!

Scotia · 15/12/2007 21:17

My parents always used to buy my dds coats and boots for Christmas. Boy did I appreciate it - saved me a fortune! They always had plenty toys and games.

Onlyaphase · 15/12/2007 21:22

Depends on who is buying. Some of my friends buy age-and-season appropriate clothes from M&S which is just lovely and I really appreciate those.

My MIL buys random clothes in styles I don't like (far too fussy and embroidered!) and often in the wrong size. She called me today to say she was in her favourite children's clothes shop (defo not mine) looking at clothes and the 18-24 months size looked far to big and she was going to get 12-18 months FFS. This is despite me saying last week the 12-18 month clothes were getting small on DD. I have a big 14 month old, who has enough clothes at the moment in the right size. I do not need more clothes she can only just fit into and that I won't like.

Though I suspect this is more a problem I have with my MIL not the actual clothes buying.

clothes are very handy for my toddlers..great pressie. can't say my teenager is too impressed with them though...

blueshoes · 15/12/2007 22:30

My dd is 4 and loves new clothes! She will insist on trying new ones on immediately.

I got her cousin 4.5 a complete top-to-toe outfit for Christmas: from a teal cardigan, patterned blouse and tweedy checked skirt to matching teal tights and knee-high lace up grained leather boots - sort of huntin' and fishin' meets Boden look. I checked sizes with her mother first, my SIL.

If you zoom into the photo, you can see the outfit: here

Cost me a small fortune, but I allowed myself that indulgence because she is my goddaughter.

My face fell when I saw this thread title ... Feel better after reading the rest of it.

BibiJesus · 15/12/2007 22:33

I love it! Better than some noisy plastic stuff to clutter the house and other people buy things I wouldn't necessarily buy so dds get to try lots of differnet looks and it saves me a bl**dy fortune!

janeite · 15/12/2007 22:37

Blueshoes, that Verbaudet outfit is gorgeous. I used to love it when people bought the dds clothes but they are now too old and fussy (and too tall and too skinny) and I'm sure they would inevitably be wrong. Would love it if people bought ME clothes though!

SNOWBall4girlz · 15/12/2007 22:55

me too love clothes for presents that is and
my girls think clothes are a great present
if I buy clothes though I tend to put a little toy in too in case the dc is disappointed --nearly all parents seem to like it at parties and stuff I have been to
