Does anybody actually like Christmas music in shops?

There are certain songs I like, but every time I hear Christmas songs in shops I feel stressed and pissed off.

My opinion is that people can choose to wear earphones with Christmas music on whilst they shop, play songs in the car or at home, but it should be banned in shops.

I quite like Christmas btw

I love it! 🎄

Toddlerteaplease · 20/11/2021 16:47

Loathe it

mrsrobin · 20/11/2021 16:47

Can't stand it unless it is the week before Xmas. Really can't stand it in October or November.

stealingbeauty · 20/11/2021 16:48

I absolutely hate Christmas music in shops. It’s probably the worst part of Christmas for me.

Blackmagicqueen · 20/11/2021 16:51

YABU i love it!; it makes me feel all festive! Give me all the Christmas true movie ott cheesiness!

PollyannaWhittier · 20/11/2021 16:55

I love it after about mid November. I even loved it when I worked in Sainsbury's and we had the same cd on a loop for about a month BlushGrin

I’m autistic, and loud music when I’m trying to shop induces a meltdown. I had to abandon my weekly supermarket shop one year when it was absolutely ear splitting.
To be fair, I emailed the manager, and when I went back the following week it was down to a very quiet background level.
I spoke to some of the staff who said they were grateful I’d complained. They were stressed, half deaf and feeling homicidal after the twentieth repeat of “All I want for Xmas” screeched in their ears full belt.
I think it’s counterproductive if it drives customers away.
There was actually a campaign to ban background music in stores a few years ago - several had a sort of “quiet shop” logo displayed outside, which was helpful for autistic people who suffer sensory overload.

Yes!!!

Stompythedinosaur · 20/11/2021 17:23

I love it, but I can imagine it is wearing for the staff.

TrampolineForMrKite · 20/11/2021 17:26

No, I don’t. Times that by 150 if that song is ‘A Spaceman Came Travelling’ by Chris De Bergh. That song would depress the arse off of me I even if I had just won the lottery.

herecomesthsun · 20/11/2021 17:27

I generally love it.

KohlaParasaurus · 20/11/2021 17:28

I really like it. I have lots of happy memories associated with Christmas music.

ThePoisonousMushroom · 20/11/2021 17:29

Yep, love it. I do all my Christmas shopping online but like to go for a walk around the shops for the music/atmosphere.

megletthesecond · 20/11/2021 17:33

No, I hate it. I actually get so irritated I don't browse and leave with only the essentials if it's playing weeks too early, Card Warehouse I'm looking at you.

When I worked in retail we wouldn't let our manager put Xmas music on too early.

megletthesecond · 20/11/2021 17:34

It's the staff I feel really sorry for. Xms retail is insane enough without little drummer boy x 5 every bloody day.

PeachesPumpkin · 20/11/2021 17:36

I love it. Makes me feel happy.

BeautifulBirds · 20/11/2021 17:37

Hate shop music, it makes me spend less time in the store and less likely to purchase anything.

lazylinguist · 20/11/2021 17:39

From mid December yes. Before that, no.

Longdistance · 20/11/2021 17:40

Bloody hate it. I walked out as a Mariah Carey started to play. It’s on the radio too. It either gets switched off or the station is changed.
Then again, I walk out of sports shops when they play music as it’s TOO BLOODY LOUD!

TSSDNCOP · 20/11/2021 17:40

I like a nice choir singing carols whilst I'm Christmas shopping.

I don't mind it - from about the 2nd week in December, not before!

Fallagain · 20/11/2021 17:59

I love it but perhaps you may get a different point of view if you asked outside the Christmas board.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/11/2021 18:00

I got here from Active.

CrazyBaubles · 20/11/2021 18:03

I like official versions of Christmas music in shops but not the awful covers they tend to play (still takes me back to a Christmas job I had in Next in uni where they had an album of 10 rubbish songs which was played on a loop).

I often do exactly as you said and will take headphones and play my own, it's much easier.
