Only a quarter of team going on works do

Usually a really good turn out. We haven't all seen each other in 18 months although a few smaller gatherings.

Only about 25% of the team have agreed to attend the Christmas do. It will be a bit flat I think so now I'm thinking about not going.

Do you have a do and are you going?

Would you go based on the above?

OP posts:
MrsLargeEmbodied · 20/11/2021 15:40

our big do has been cancelled - it has been frowned upon

MrsLargeEmbodied · 20/11/2021 15:41

if you usually go and you want to then why wouldnt you?

JunoMcDuff · 20/11/2021 15:43

I'm not going because I'm already busy.

SeasonFinale · 20/11/2021 15:44

Maybe it's the cost, maybe it is the rising rates in covid, maybe people gave got used tk a different way of socialising (ie. not doing so). If your company had furlough a lot of people over lockdowns perhaps they just don't have the cash available to spend on a do with just colleagues rather than friends

Muddytrainers · 20/11/2021 15:47

We’ve got a massive team meeting (hundreds) and a smaller one planned within 10 days of Xmas - really not happy as I don’t want to risk missing a second family Xmas in a row. I’ll be wearing a mask and leaving asap !

2pinkginsplease · 20/11/2021 15:51

Our huge work Christmas night has been cancelled, a few of the staff are going out however there is a few who have said they aren’t going… me included,

For me seeing family is more important than a works night out.

BunsyGirl · 20/11/2021 16:02

We have one that normally 500-600 people attend. It’s not proving to be very popular this year as it’s 9 days before Christmas and people are worried about getting Covid and missing seeing their family.

BakewellGin1 · 20/11/2021 16:12

We have a team of 34, we are going for a meal and few drinks (approx 2 hours) rather then a full on night/party.

We are based in same area daily and test 3 x per week for work purposes.

I'm not going on the cross building night out on last day of term.

FatHat · 20/11/2021 16:19

I'm not going to ours.

It's an hour each way, at a horrible restaurant, and we have to pay for ourselves.

Knitwit101 · 20/11/2021 16:21

I'm not going because it is on the 17th and I can't risk catching covid that close to Christmas, my family would be so upset.

If it was on the 3rd I would have gone.

rainbowunicorn · 20/11/2021 16:29

I won't be going to ours and they are considering cancelling due to very low uptake. I won't risk not being able to see my elderly parents again this year. Going to a busy works night out with loads of drunk people is a risk too far. Several people taht I work with have said the same.

tanstaafl · 20/11/2021 16:42

As a few pp’s have said, I’m not going to our unofficial Xmas meal because I don’t want to catch Covid the week before Christmas.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 20/11/2021 16:45

I volunteered to work the night of ours.

Morale is on the floor at work and I really don’t want to spend extra time with colleagues.

Trying to find a diplomatic way to duck out of the Secret Santa, too.

elizabethdraper · 20/11/2021 16:49

Ours has been cancelled
As delighted as I never go anyway, don't have to deal with the haranging to go

Augusta1 · 20/11/2021 16:53

Ours is going ahead and 35 of us have booked and paid for a Christmas Party night at a local hotel. We're all looking forward to it.

Tabbacus · 20/11/2021 17:07

We are having one on zoom, food is being sent to people. Feel a bit gutted as it would be so good to see people. I can see why lots aren't keen though, it is a risk before Christmas if people are hoping to see family, and to be honest I think colleagues can be a bit out of sight out of mind and so people aren't too arsed about seeing them in person.

sarah13xx · 20/11/2021 17:37

Someone tried to arrange one before covid in my work. People in my work are happy to chat to each other in the workplace but no one would ever really meet up out with work so I wouldn’t say they’re ‘friends’. No one signed up and I was waiting to see if anyone would sign up then I would if everyone else was but no one did so I think everyone was waiting on everyone else then in the end up we never had one 😂

sarah13xx · 20/11/2021 17:38

@Tabbacus definitely out of sight out of mind, I’m on maternity leave and I’ve pretty much forgotten about people at my work and I think they’ve forgotten about me too 🤷🏼‍♀️

Lupinhere37 · 20/11/2021 17:41

We have one. It wasn’t optional and I’m concerned, as many of my colleagues give zero shits about Covid, or have form for making their own rules up. My family will be livid if it ruins Christmas but I fear it will get me in trouble if I don’t go.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 20/11/2021 18:04

We’re not having one this year, if whole team caught Covid or had to isolate at once would have serious impact.

HikingforScenery · 20/11/2021 18:21

We’re a team of 10 and having one. I don’t really want to go but I’ll be the only one and it won’t show good for team spirit, I guess. Hmm

Tabbacus · 20/11/2021 18:27

Why will it get you in trouble? Even if its during work time if you're happy to take leave or do work that's ridiculous of them.
Mari34 · 20/11/2021 18:30

Do planned for pub near the office but dont think many people will turn up. Undecided myself, would be nice to get back to normal though.

Benjispruce5 · 20/11/2021 18:32

Not going to mine but am going to DH’s as his is fully paid for whereas mine(school) isn’t and they’re on the same night.

middleager · 20/11/2021 18:33

Can't stand them. At least in lockdown, this enforced socialising was cancelled.
