Only a quarter of team going on works do

Usually a really good turn out. We haven't all seen each other in 18 months although a few smaller gatherings.

Only about 25% of the team have agreed to attend the Christmas do. It will be a bit flat I think so now I'm thinking about not going.

Do you have a do and are you going?

Would you go based on the above?

We’re having a team meal and drinks, the big do has been cancelled

scrivette · 20/11/2021 20:59

I am not going, it's too close to Christmas and is in a small bar and I don't want to risk COVID for Christmas.

GreenClock · 20/11/2021 21:01

We were asked if we wanted a party in a local rugby club and 5/95 said yes. So it’s not happening. Things are not really “back to normal” and people are still being careful.

dementedma · 20/11/2021 21:05

Jealous of people whose work pays! My team of 8 are all going but we pay for it ourselves. Just a meal and drinks

Polmuggle · 20/11/2021 21:12

Is there a correlation between those not going and those who work from home still?

Posters on here who won't go for fear of catching Covid close to Christmas - are you also not going into the workplace in the run up as well?

FoxInABox · 20/11/2021 21:12

My DHs work has a Christmas party which we would normally attend but we are not going this year. They have treated a lot of the staff appallingly the last year or so, so the majority are not going. New management has been brought in so I hope it will be more positive next year.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 20/11/2021 21:14

I call Daily Mail Lazy Journo post Hmm

User2638483 · 20/11/2021 21:15

We’re not having one this year because of covid rates (team of about 40 but normally maybe 25-30 at xmas do). If we did I’m not sure I’d risk it.

DrRamsesEmerson · 20/11/2021 21:18

We're having team drinks (hired a room in a pub) the first week in December. Totally optional, but it's far enough away from Christmas that most people are happy to come. No big party this year, although we're public sector so wouldn't get a party paid for anyway - we pay for ourselves.

Many people have covid precautions at work and work in smaller teams. More people + possible relaxed inhibitions due to alcohol will inevitably increase risk.
Sprostongreen21 · 20/11/2021 21:21

I work on a ward. Amazed it’s allowed tbh but our ward is having one. Could wipe out some of the team at once which is risky but hey ho.

Im not going I don’t really go to work dos much. But this year aster not spending Christmas with family and friends im more keen to do that tbh.

Work pays the bills so a necessity. A Christmas do doesn’t. Also work May have mitigation’s in place to prevent covid spread. A drunken night out doesn’t.
FrownedUpon · 20/11/2021 21:24

No, not risking ruining Christmas. Really not bothered anyway. More hassle than it’s worth and we have to pay for ourselves. 4/23 have agreed to go so far.

mrsfollowill · 20/11/2021 21:26

I work for local government so we get nothing- nada! Used to organise and pay for our own 'dos' but all working from home since March 2020 anyway so zero team spirit out of working hours! DH work are fab though - all paid for night out- fancy meal - all drinks etc so looking forward to it. Small company/office though so all are friends really not just colleagues.

I’m going into work around three days a week, but a lot of my team aren’t, so I can sit on my own all day some days and people on other teams all seem quite understanding if someone looks like they want to give them a wide berth.
Athinginitself · 20/11/2021 21:43

We're not having one. Work for the NHS and our trust is definitely not encouraging any official team night outs although I'm sure some people will meet up for a drink it will be very minimal.

Allaboutyou222 · 20/11/2021 21:58

I’m not going. Can’t stand 75% of the team

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 20/11/2021 22:10

We're all going to ours, we're all at work together all week so not a huge increase in risk, we LFT x2 weekly.

Porcupineintherough · 20/11/2021 22:13

Yes we have a do and no I am not going. I spent last Christmas ill w covid, would like to be well enough to see family for this one. That means not spending an evening in a packed room w 60 other people (we had our first "live" staff meeting a few weeks ago and 5 people were infected).

Skybubble · 20/11/2021 22:23

There will be a works party but I won't be going because of the gossip about work mates.

Can you not see the difference between paid work and a Christmas party?

I have worked hybrid for years. I go into the office when I need to. Where there's a maximum of 3 people sharing the room a with plenty of space.

The Christmas party is at a place where lots of groups of people, from different places will be. There will people, from all over the country there, just from my own company. Not much space, drink lowering inhibitions.

One I need to do to pay my bills. One I don't need to do. One is far riskier than another.

We have had covid twice. Once in match 2020 when my 9 year old had to be admitted to hospital and once earlier this year where we had an ambulance to him. Both time he took a while to recover. He has just been diagnosed with asthma.

So no, I won't take a risk, I don't have to that has no positives to bring it home or be sick over Christmas.

Whitefire · 20/11/2021 22:45

I'm not going to mine. I don't drink, I live far from work so is a pita to drive home after, I really don't like socialising and food stresses me out. I don't do any of my work events, other than very small team meals (where I can order food I want)

Divebar2021 · 20/11/2021 23:01

I think a lot of MN don’t like their colleagues very much - a lot of them don’t go to Xmas do s even before COVID. I’m public sector so no paid “do” for me but there will be drinks on the 15th which I will go to if I can get a babysitter.

Mantlemoose · 20/11/2021 23:12

We have been given a set amount per team and told to arrange it ourselves. Our team of 10 where we work in different offices and are never closer than 2m and that's with masks have decided early afternoon at local restaurant and then going to a busy pub. The date chosen is 23rd December. I can prettymuch guarantee (knowing what they're like when they're drunk and the local pub they are going to), they'll be SI at some pointover the festive period. I won't be going. I might have considered it 1st week in December but have elderly parents and not chancing not seeing them on Christmas Day.

SnarkyBag · 20/11/2021 23:12

No I’m not going. The place we’re meant to be going isn’t my cup of tea and there’s a weird atmosphere at work at the moment. I have a feeling it will all be a bit awkward and flat
