Only a quarter of team going on works do

parentsonthenet · 20/11/2021 15:38

Usually a really good turn out. We haven't all seen each other in 18 months although a few smaller gatherings.

Only about 25% of the team have agreed to attend the Christmas do. It will be a bit flat I think so now I'm thinking about not going.

Do you have a do and are you going?

Would you go based on the above?

I do like my colleagues, I just find socialising really difficult. My job involves talking to people, I can do that, I just find socially really difficult, especially in a large group situation.

bananaboats · 20/11/2021 23:23

I'm not going to mine but only because I already have other plans

Lupinhere37 · 21/11/2021 00:33

@Tabbacus we have to go to a business meeting in the daytime, then it morphs into a big party. There will be a meeting the two next days too, making it difficult to refuse. I couldn’t travel each day as the venue is 5-6 hours away. I think I could potentially refuse but they wouldn’t like it because we’ll genuinely be working over three full days as well. I agree with you, btw.

KosherDill · 21/11/2021 01:34

Covid.

Flambola · 21/11/2021 04:15

I don’t think we’re having one. I wouldn’t want to go anyway, most people will spend half their time in the toilets sniffing shite up their noses.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 21/11/2021 06:40

We are teachers and mixing with large numbers of unvaccinated children (infants) daily so we're all going!

WTF475878237NC · 21/11/2021 06:49

I've just pulled out due to rising Covid cases. It's quite close to Christmas and I don't want to be ill over it if I can help it.

DiamondBright · 21/11/2021 06:58

Ours has been cancelled, lots of people dropped out and it would have been an odd party with so few people, it's got to be worth paying for taxis and hotel rooms. Our smaller team is planning a lunchtime meeting before Christmas instead.

GoodnightGrandma · 21/11/2021 06:59

I don’t go on works do’s.
I just go to the little office party we have on the last day.

fedup078 · 21/11/2021 07:03

I've organised mine
I haven't seen my colleagues since 2019 due to maternity leave and lockdown
We're still working from home and I've since become a single parent so I'm desperate to get out when I can
Deffo a much smaller turnout this time and I'll probably drive but there are a few like me who are determined to go

Onlinedilema · 21/11/2021 07:12

Officially work won't organise a do due to the need to social distance. We are still all sat apart can't go into the kitchen or eat together etc. Someone's organised a private do but I don't know the details. Morale is very low, the boss has organised some shit "team building" crap. Won't take responsibility that it is then who are the problem. Anyway no I'm not going.

DiamondBright · 21/11/2021 07:15

We pay for our own do btw so totally our choice and we're still mostly WFH, with the option to go into the office if you want to but with strict social distancing etc.

parentsonthenet · 21/11/2021 08:15

@MrsLargeEmbodied

if you usually go and you want to then why wouldnt you?
Because a much smaller proportion are going, none of which are from my immediate team.

@Flambola. Bloody hell, where do you work?

Benjispruce5 · 21/11/2021 08:28

I’m in school daily with lots of different children but we are proper ventilated and do social distance. A meal was mooted but I’ve declined as I don’t want to sit shoulder in an unventilated restaurant so close to Christmas. Plus it’s unfunded. Not worth it.

Benjispruce5 · 21/11/2021 08:28

Shoulder to shoulder

NotMyCat · 21/11/2021 08:35

@Polmuggle

Is there a correlation between those not going and those who work from home still?

Posters on here who won't go for fear of catching Covid close to Christmas - are you also not going into the workplace in the run up as well?

I haven't been back in. Been WFH since March 2020

I’ve been going into the workplace for months now - we all have on a rota basis. We work in our own offices over 4 sites, see very few people face to face, and we wear masks in the public areas etc - we certainly don’t sit around a table as a group in a busy restaurant with masks off. It’s all about the level of risk that people are willing to assume - I don’t go out socially in big groups, go to concerts or the cinema, that sort of thing.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 21/11/2021 09:16

We’ve booked a meal for two teams (small so only 8 in total). I’m considering cancelling and am planning to do a risk assessment. The issue is - there’s 4 in my team and if we all get covid the hospital will struggle and who would cover? I’m thinking we could sit staggered and boss and I sit at opposite ends of the table… I have no idea whether to go ahead or not. Legally we can but that doesn’t mean it’s not a risk.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 21/11/2021 09:18

We are with each other all day at work but we’re wearing masks and are socially distanced at our desks.

Summersdreaming · 21/11/2021 09:22

I'm looking forward to ours, we get to finish early, get paid, 3 course meal + drinks paid for.. what's not to like!?

But we voluntarily meet for drinks about once a month anyway, so we don't begrudge spending time with colleagues like others seem to.

BeggarsMeddle · 21/11/2021 09:40

Nope, not going to the one that is being planned by some colleagues in our local government department. The last one pre-covid was a glorious affair by all accounts and if this year's were to be anything like it I predict a spreading event...

But I'm just an old curmudgeon and what do I know?

Tiredalwaystired · 21/11/2021 10:08

We’ve had to cancel ours. Strict rules from work about either outdoors or a small gathering. They’re concerned about whole team getting covid at same time Nowhere can host us all safely.

Real shame as it coincides with one key team member leaving after 15 years so she wont get the send off we want to give her.

Squirrelblanket · 21/11/2021 10:31

We don't have a company wide one, we're encouraged to arrange them by team and each person has a budget of £40. Last year we all just got given the £40 and encouraged to have a virtual party over Teams and they are doing the same this year. (We are all still WFH).

Some people in my team are talking about meeting in town after the virtual party but I can't be arsed trailing into town after work. Plus it's on 17th December and we're away at the in laws that weekend.

GiantHaystacks2021 · 21/11/2021 10:35

Yes - we have one but I'm not going to go.
It is paid for by the company.
It's not compulsory.
I like my colleagues and all that but I really don't feel like making small talk for hours.
And it will be cold and maybe wet and I have to travel to another part of the city.
