What do you treat yourself to at Christmas that you don’t have any other time of the year?

Mine is my mums rocky road. She makes me a tray every year and it’s delicious Grin I also like a jar of cherries in kirsch for Christmas week - I have them on ice cream or chocolate cake.

The white french fancies but that's perhaps because it's the only time they are out. I also treat us to a box of nice snacks such as sensations poppadoms, those tubs of mini cheddars and such.

Notgoingonholiday · 19/11/2021 13:31

It sounds really sad but I have big bowls of 'not healthy' cereal every morning, like full fat muesli and Coco pops. The rest of the year I always have measured out portions of 'healthy cereal'. Also only drink Snowballs at Christmas, the first one is literally the start of Christmas officially.

SockFluffInTheBath · 19/11/2021 13:32

Nice dates and panettone.

AperolWhore · 19/11/2021 13:33

I always buy a huge fancy AF panatone in one of the huge hat boxes and snack on it constantly, slavered in apricot jam.

Jericha · 19/11/2021 13:35

Baked Camembert with onion chutney and crusty bread. First one is normally cracked open Christmas Eve and probably 1 or 2 more before new year.

PlinkPlankPlunk · 19/11/2021 13:40

All the party food nibbles from Marks and Spencers! And stollen. Lots of stollen

troppibambini6 · 19/11/2021 13:40

I make Christmas granola with cranberries and figs and have it with hot homemade cranberry sauce and Greek yogurt.
My mum does lots of Italian Christmas baking too.
From the shops panettone ( from TK maxx) just Brazils, chestnuts and lots of nuts.
Homemade mince pies with brandy cream or custard.

Eviebeans · 19/11/2021 13:41

Real Turkish delight

caringcarer · 19/11/2021 13:42

Strawberry creme chocolates. I get a large strawberry Quality Street in my stocking.

goose1964 · 19/11/2021 13:45

Twiglets, ritz crackers etc I'm all about the savoury.

nettytree · 19/11/2021 13:46

Florentines. Its the only thing I go to aldi for.

Smarshian · 19/11/2021 13:47

A chocolate orange

Pascha · 19/11/2021 13:47

Pringles and Bendicks bitter mints - - in the same mouthful.-- They don't make an appearance for the rest of the years usually.

lunarlandscape · 19/11/2021 13:50

Blue Stilton - pale and crumbly not yellow and waxy. It's about 1000 calories a glance, so we only have it at Christmas.

Also cheese straws - either the olive ones or the poppyseed ones. So high fat but so good.

DH has also started a tradition of buying Highland Chocolates which are about £40 for a tiny box. They are the best chocolates ever but we're definitely not having them at any other time of year.

I also have a secret chunk of good quality almond nougat. I could eat my body weight in it and the sugar hit is not good. But I love it.

Pork Pie
Walnut Whips

Totorosfluffytummy · 19/11/2021 14:11

Lebkuchen for me & my daughter.
Mince pies for all 3 children.

beguilingeyes · 19/11/2021 14:15

Oh god, snowballs definitely.
Marks and Spencers honey roasted cashew nuts. Dangerous.
Stollen
Snowdonia Cheese Company cheese with ginger. I could eatt it like an apple.

Onionbhajisandwich · 19/11/2021 14:20

@inigomontoyahwillcox do you have the pork pie for Christmas Day breakfast?? That was my grandads traditional breakfast on the day.

@Eviebeans I love Turkish delight - I’m going to have to order a box now!

@PlinkPlankPlunk we like the M and S party stuff - we usually have a night (somewhere around the 23rd) where we have it for tea with crusty bread.

Spekulaas cakes from Waitrose, I'm bloody addicted to those things!

SallyWD · 19/11/2021 14:32

Cheese, crackers and chutneys. Warm mine pies and brandy cream washed down with mulled wine. Big boxes of chocolates and biscuits. Stollen, yule log. Lots of nibbles like Bombay mix and cheese footballs. Dips.

BiddyPop · 19/11/2021 14:33

A bottle of amaretto and some amaretti biscuits (I don't need to buy these every year as the bottle lasts many years, and the biscuits usually 2/3 years as they are sealed individually).

few tubes of pringles - DD likes them (so do DH and I) but we tend to only buy them at Christmas (and DD's favourite bacon flavour is only out at Christmas).

Spiced beef.

orchardgirl4 · 19/11/2021 14:37

Roast goose, snowballs, quality street, mince pies, a special home-made cheese pate (sooo tasty on toast, melted under the grill).

Inextremis · 19/11/2021 14:37

Cheese footballs - can't get them here in Ireland, so I have to have them sent over by a UK friend. I have 5 tubs this year :) Also rose and violet creams (Beech's), chocolate covered ginger, pickled walnuts, and Really Good Cheese!

headinthecloudsnow · 19/11/2021 14:41

Proper Lurpak butter. I spread it on sliced French stick like there's no tomorrow!

@Onionbhajisandwich no not for breakfast 😁 just generally over the xmas period, with lashings and lashings of piccalilli.
