For me it's:

Christmas eve box
Advebt calendars
December 1st box
Breakfast with Santa
Crackers
Pantomime (love musical theatre though)
Bread sauce
Christmas pudding and cake. Love a yule log!

OP posts:
purplecorkheart · 06/11/2021 20:29

No idea about breakfast with santa and 1st of December crap but suspect I would be done with them if I did.

Done with
Turkey, dry bland and hate coming down to it on the bone the next day.
Christmas chocolates taste horrible and greasy.
Cheese boards, hate smelly cheese
The same tv and film shows being repeated every Christmas.
Most Christmas gifts, mainly clutter or stuff I do not want
Exchanging annual Christmas cards with people you have not seen in years.
Those letters people put into their cards updating every little thing that happened in their life that year. No I do not care that little Johnny went to London on his school tour.
Christmas work parties
New Years eve
Snow and Ice
Fake snow and Ice
Cold white and blue Christmas lights

NotMyCircusNotMyProblem · 06/11/2021 20:46

Hate all of it. We go abroad for the duration and lie in the sun while refusing to acknowledge any of it. Obviously covid has made this difficult but, we're back on track this year Grin

CheddarGorgeous · 06/11/2021 21:20

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba

all of it

as long as we sit down on time to watch Die Hard on Christmas Eve and nobody is ill or needs A&E I'm happy

Are you me? 😀
reluctantbrit · 06/11/2021 21:37

All the side dishes, what’s wrong with keeping it simple. Brussel sprouts can be eaten all winter and red cabbage as well.
Elf on the shelf, luckily DD was too old when it appeared
Christmas Eve box or December 1st box
Christmas Pjs, pointless, they outgrow them in a couple of months and won’t wear them after NYE
Quality Street tin, I only like two of the varieties
Christmas pudding and cake
Having the tree up mid November (yes dear neighbour, I am counting the days)

unicornpower · 06/11/2021 23:41

The only bit I hate is having to see the in laws, there’s always a row, too much booze and toxicity.

We are hosting this year with our baby and we aren’t seeing them on the actual day thankfully. Roll on a nice, calm and enjoyable day!

I love all the multi coloured lights, matching pjs and general Christmas tat 😂

Ask me again in 5 years when our house is full of Christmas plastic that people will no doubt buy for baby

Onlyabean · 07/11/2021 00:02

Don't like:
Alcohol, having to pay over the odds for food, cards (getting or giving), flashing or chasing lights, cold white lights, illuminated flat shaped illuminated stars/plastic Santas etc, queues in shops, smoked salmon, prawns, the mess from unwrapping things, the enormous cost, travelling, trying to find the end on the sellotape, nutcracker decorations, vintage Father Christmas decorations, the song which says "A Spaceman came travelling", The Snowman (especially the song in it), mess from crackers, annoying visitors, competitive social media posts, knowing that some people are sad, depressed, homeless etc, not having parents any more.

Like:
Lovely food, beautifully wrapping everything, planning, giving gifts, having the family staying over, decorating the house like a grotto, Christmas carols, the religious aspect, Christmas songs (esp Fairytale of New York), warm white lights, specials on TV, the adverts, the build up, seeing all my special baubles from over the years, seeing family members, cosy nights in, winter weather, memories.

JumperandJacket · 07/11/2021 00:07

Loads but the one that springs to mind is TV. When I was a kid we used to watch all the Christmas specials and circling things in the Christmas Radio Times was part of our build up to the day. Now I’m an adult, we don’t turn the TV on at all for days.

Who remembers when the Christmas Day film was a big thing? Another era.

supremelybaffled · 07/11/2021 00:14

Writing bloody Christmas cards.
The dreaded elf on the shelf shenanigans.
Christmas Eve boxes.
Bread sauce,
Brandy Butter.
Work Christmas parties.
Christmas jumpers (spending several hours in and out of a hot kitchen while wearing one of those is really not for me).
Receiving presents I don't want, like or need and having to pretend to be grateful.

supremelybaffled · 07/11/2021 00:27

Oh, I forgot - real Christmas trees. There are few things I like less than seeing rows and rows of chopped-off trees at garden centres, looking at them all and knowing that they are all already doomed to a certain death now they've been severed from their roots.

I like trees. I don't want to spend several weeks watching one die in my living room.

Feckauras · 07/11/2021 00:36

I’ve never done Christmas eve box, December 1st box, Breakfast with Santa or Bread sauce and Christmas pudding and cake.

Controversial but I don’t enjoy the Christmas dinner.

Feckauras · 07/11/2021 00:39

Also I’m not fussed on
Outdoor decorations
Christmas cards
Wrapping paper
Christmas songs

Holothane · 07/11/2021 00:44

Really can’t get going this year I’m just not feeling it at all.

Ronacorona · 07/11/2021 00:46

I'll pass on-

Christmas jumpers
Advent calendars
Themed house decorations
Christmas markets

I love -
Mulled wine
Home made cranberry sauce
Office secret Santa
Panto
Uplifting carols (not eg in the bleak winter)
Arthur christmas
Home alone
Last day of work

Gingerkittykat · 07/11/2021 02:18

I hate:

Secret Santa.
Gifts for the sake of it.
Everyone saying have a nice Christmas for a couple of weeks before the big day and you having to return that greeting.
Another turkey.
People buying me booze for presents even though I don't drink.
Flashing lights.
Turning the TV or radio on and it's yet more Christmas crap.

Things I like:
Crackers.
Stockings.
Pigs in blankets.
Bread sauce.
Playing stupid board games after dinner.
Christmas book club.
Home Alone
The black and white film version of A Christmas Carol.

DockOTheBay · 07/11/2021 07:34

Another vote for Secret Santa amongst colleagues/acquaintances. There is always someone who forgets and ends up getting a bag of minstrels, someone who gets an uncomfortable/inappropriate present (usually a woman, bought by a man 🙄) and then tons of generic pointless presents. Big waste of money IMO.

DockOTheBay · 07/11/2021 07:38

Set some rules now, have a wish list, request that each person just buys one present, ask for practical things or money towards classes/events/passes. Set your expectations now so that when they're 5, thy aren't expecting piles of junk.
unicornpower · 07/11/2021 08:30

@DockOTheBay that’s a good idea, she’s only 8 weeks atm so for this year we’ve said if grandparents want to get her things then to buy her a couple of water babies lessons as she starts in January!

Lovemusic33 · 07/11/2021 08:48

We don’t really do….
Christmas Eve boxes
Elf on the fucking shelf
Crackers
Bread sauce
No starter (a roast is plenty)
Christmas cake
Christmas pudding
Tree chocolates
Visiting people we don’t really like
Eating at the table (we don’t have one) 😬
Panto (not my thing)
Church
Playing party games
Dressing up in your best clothes

For us Christmas Day is about relaxing, giving gifts and eating a good roast dinner…….and watching shit tv in the evening.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 07/11/2021 09:07

Oh god the Christmas markets. Hugely overpriced tat shipped in from China with irritating music and huge crowds. Underwhelming food and drink. No thanks!

OP posts:
Nc123 · 07/11/2021 13:13

We don’t do:

Christmas pudding, Christmas cake, brandy butter, stollen or mince pies as I don’t like any of them!
Elf on the Shelf
December 1st stuff
Grotto visits as I never can be arsed with the queueing
Advent calendars (we do a reusable one)
Gift sets of anything
The queens speech (which I have never seen)
Matching pyjamas. Everyone gets new ones on Christmas Eve but they are not Christmas themed and they don’t match.

Holothane · 08/11/2021 22:04

Well I’ve started call the midwives Christmas specials dvd, my grumpy old women at Christmas has been -layer a few times now, so hopefully but what I don’t do
Many cards now simply can’t be bothered
Roast dinner Christmas Eve this year so,nibbles Christmas Day,
The tv is rubbish so will watch documentaries about history of Christmas or my own stuff.
I love my advent calendar it’s the native and can be used every year.

Sweetener12 · 09/11/2021 10:49

I've never really cared about December 1st box or breakfast with Santa. Advent calendars are fun but you get tired of them when this stuff repeats yearly. Same goes to Xmas cards, I just don't like giving or getting them, they seem wasteful and could be replaced with a fun Smartshow 3d christmas vid anyway.
I also don't enjoy special episodes of tv shows, these are mostly fillers and never add to an actual plot. I love creative Halloween episodes though.
Christmas outfits aren't for me either.

FlipFlops4Me · 09/11/2021 11:03

Bread sauce
Gifts that are ornaments, or pictures etc. Don't mind edibles.
Advent calendars
Christmas TV (Pathetic celebs wearing "love me" faces, or war films ....)
Christmas Eve boxes - just tell the little blighters to shut up and wait until the day
Meat or dairy produce (we're vegan)
Cards for or from people I never see from one year's end to the next.
Jangly crappy music.

What I do like - being with the family, sharing a nice (vegan) meal, not feeling too stressed to enjoy things.

Mrsjayy · 09/11/2021 11:09

Ours didn't have Christmas Eve boxes. December 1st boxes wtfHmm or elf on the shelf im glad DC are grown it all sounds a total faff!

I'm allergic to dry fruit so no pies or cakes bread sauce isn't. A thing in Scotland sounds claggy so no to that. Personally I'm not keen on Christmas cards

Mrsjayy · 09/11/2021 11:12

I also don't do Chrisrnas markets I do go with people but I mutter all the way round ! Mulled wine is horrible .
