For me it's:

Christmas eve box
Advebt calendars
December 1st box
Breakfast with Santa
Crackers
Pantomime (love musical theatre though)
Bread sauce
Christmas pudding and cake. Love a yule log!

:09choli Invasionofthegutsnatchers Advent argh Yes, being reminded that it is supposed to be a religious holiday really sucks doesn't it.

It was about a typo in my OP.

Most of it - we prefer a family holiday especially now the kids are older.

lollipoprainbow · 06/11/2021 17:15

Christmas Eve boxes don't understand that at all, what's a December 1 box ffs?!

MadMadMadamMim · 06/11/2021 17:17

Don't do 'boxes' at all. You get presents Christmas Day, that's it. Likewise "elf on a shelf". No longer do advent calendars as DC are late teens upwards.
Never liked panto
Don't do office parties
Cards - can't be arsed to write and post
Chocolate yule logs covered in buttercream
Christmas cake (since my lovely friend who always made us one died)
Carrot for Rudolf/whisky for Santa
Themed/colour co-ordinated trees/room. We hang the same old stuff up every year and like to see the old favourites come out.
Outside lights/decorations

I actually love Christmas and the above list makes me sound like the Grinch - but we have a sort of old fashioned family Christmas and enjoy it.

violetanemone · 06/11/2021 17:18

I have never even heard of a December 1st box or breakfast with Santa.
(I also think Christmas Eve boxes are a bit weird but each to their own).

I feel like Christmas is what you make it really so if there are things you're not fussed about just don't do them.

lollipoprainbow · 06/11/2021 17:18

Oh, and drippy carols - why In The Bleak Midwinter is so popular is beyond me, and I don't like Away In A Manger either

Disagree ! They are both lovely in my eyes, they make me cry every time, maybe that's why you think they are drippy.

Mulhollandmagoo · 06/11/2021 17:20

I can't believe the amount of people saying Christmas pudding Shock I'd skip everything else and just have that Grin

Relatives bringing piles piles of presents that won't get played with and matching family Christmas pj's can get straight in the bin for me

But in all honesty, most of it I intend to skip this year. As longs as we've got good food and Christmas films I'm happy!!

Mulhollandmagoo · 06/11/2021 17:23

@mrsbyers

The glorified roast dinner , last year we have some M&S party food and doing same this year
Considering this this year.... Just need to get my husband on board! I really don't want to spend 2/3rds of Christmas day cooking
YouJustFoldItIn · 06/11/2021 17:26

The bit where I get on the scales in January and am inexplicably 9 lb heavier.

Legoisthebest · 06/11/2021 17:29

Traditional Christmas dinner.
I don't eat roast dinners ever (simply don't like them).
I usually have something that can be put in the microwave like a m+s pasta meal. Infact the sitting around the dinner table for ages on end bores me. Food is fuel. I just want to eat and do something more interesting instead.

hiredandsqueak · 06/11/2021 17:34

I don't like any of it if I'm honest. I dreamt of the day when all the dc were grown up and I could just stop bothering. Youngest is eighteen now so should be living the dream BUT my birthday is Christmas day and I now have two dgs so the dc want to come here to celebrate my birthday and Christmas for the little ones. Looks like I will be continuing under duress for the foreseeable.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 06/11/2021 17:35

All of it.

TicTacHoh · 06/11/2021 17:35

Turkey and in laws

choli · 06/11/2021 17:36

Most of the traditional Christmas dinner foods, but I'd be upset to eat anything other than a roast!
Why?

WaterBottle123 · 06/11/2021 17:36

All of the gross over consumption and consumerism. And the religious aspects

PermanentTemporary · 06/11/2021 17:40

I like everything about the Christmas I have and ignore everything else.

Best news ever this year is that work Christmas parties are all banned. Can't bear the idea that they'll come back again.

I like pretty Advent calendars with pictures, holly and ivy, cards, real trees, lights and candles of any sort, stockings and carol services. Also love an action movie and seafood on Christmas eve, midnight mass and Christmas breakfast and dinner. Nothing else.

Viviennemary · 06/11/2021 17:45

None of it. Lockdown best Christmas ever.

RusholmeRuffian · 06/11/2021 17:45

All of it. I pretty much ignore it.

Tana433 · 06/11/2021 17:48

Family turning up and expecting to be entertained and fed 'because it's Christmas'! Sod off and leave me alone to watch the Christmas soaps with my Baileys and mince pies.

Ifyoudontlaughyouwillcry · 06/11/2021 17:50

The bit I dislike is getting dressed up to sit in your own house and host people you see all year. I want to save my nice stuff for going out! Want my jeans on! I don’t mind the boxes as they only ever get Pjs and a new toothbrush. It marks bed time. My and hubby have the tradition of a particular meal and bottle of wine - kids free.

HalloHello · 06/11/2021 17:56
Meeting Santa - my daughter hates him haha 2. Christmas Eve box - what's the point? It's too late to get use out of the stuff. I do a box on December 1st though, with new Christmas jammies, Christmas jumper, Christmas outfit (so we get the most wear out of them!), books (that we have had for years!), a new bauble for each of them and their stockings. 3. Selection boxes
  1. 'smellies' gift sets
  2. Elf on the shelf
  3. Cards

Pretty much love everything else. Especially now with kids

SickAndTiredAgain · 06/11/2021 17:56

I don’t really know what a Christmas Eve box is, and I’ve never heard of a 1st Dec box so I guess those.
Don’t do elf on the shelf, and never will.
Don’t actually like Christmas dinner, or Christmas pudding.
Christmas tat, mountains of plastic crap that’s replaced every year. And people who buy new Christmas stuff every stuff (like the thread about new Christmas bedding every year).

I like stockings, presents, other Christmas food (chocolate, mince pies, Christmas cake etc), cheesy Christmas songs, Christmas tree, so I’m not a total Scrooge.

TeeTotaller1 · 06/11/2021 18:03

This
WombatChocolate · 06/11/2021 18:04

I don't like;
TUrkey
Bizarrely feeling full up straight after breakfast and then not enjoying all the great food
Christmas pud
Secret Santa with any group
Buying so many gifts, when most of the people don't want anything really
Wrapping paper - using newspaper and magazines his year!
Gift advent calendars
Elf on shelf
Excessive Santa visits
Panto
Works Christmas Do unless it's funded by work!
Getting the house ready for guests
Getting home from Christmas away and having to put away lots of tat/ visit charity shop
Going to the Sales and buying more stuff
Disappointing TV - want more Marple, Midwife and period dramas
Christmas dinner being promised at 2pm and still not being ready at 4pm and feeling light headed
Going to buy the tree and finding it costs a fortune
Needles from tree when taking it down
Worrying about what to buy everyone

Do like;
Yummy Boxing Day onward buffets and cold meat meals
Service on Christmas Day
Queens Speech
Baileys
Day in London for Christmas show
Christmas cake
Christmas meal out with friends
Mince pies through December
Looking at Christmas food catalogues
Christmas cards coming in post - often up to 10 per day close to Christmas
The sight of the tree once decorated
Going to neighbours for Christmas drinks or OPen House
Carol Service
Last day at work
Nice Boxing Day walk
Spontaneous invitations between Christmas and New Year
New Years Eve with fruends

Prattypatel · 06/11/2021 18:06
