For me it's:

Christmas eve box
Advebt calendars
December 1st box
Breakfast with Santa
Crackers
Pantomime (love musical theatre though)
Bread sauce
Christmas pudding and cake. Love a yule log!

Christmas Eve boxes
Elf on the Shelf
December first boxes
Advent toy calendars

Basically anything that forces to you spend more money on things children don’t need!

AuntieStella · 06/11/2021 15:56

Oh, and drippy carols - why In The Bleak Midwinter is so popular is beyond me, and I don't like Away In A Manger either

iwishiwasafish · 06/11/2021 16:00

Presents. Booze. Office parties.

I live the rest of it though. Although never did Dec 1st box or breakfast with Santa.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 06/11/2021 16:00

Yeah I CBA writing and sending cards. Postage costs a fortune.

Christmas pyjamas and duvet sets and crockery just seem pointless. Surely they just take up space in a cupboard for 11 months of the year?

Stockings. I've never seen the point of them, they seem to be filled with tat from poundland or chocolate, sweets and bath things that I could buy when I do my weekly shop!
Christmas pudding. I have tried to like it but it's just awful.
Christmas Eve box. We have hot chocolate in the cupboard and can download films so it's unnecessary.

DamnShesaSexyChick · 06/11/2021 16:02

I really don’t like Christmas cake, Christmas pudding or mince pies

Longdistance · 06/11/2021 16:09

Turkey can piss off and so can Christmas Eve boxes and Christmas pyjamas.
We have gammon Christmas Day and dds get presents on Christmas Eve from my dm as she’s from Eastern Europe, so we celebrate Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

OrangeBananaFish · 06/11/2021 16:11

Christmas day - I just like the lead up and the general feeling in the air. Once it gets to 25th Dec its all over for me
Christmas dinner - just a glorified Sunday roast and the amount of people who salivate at the thought of their favourite meal of the year just confuses me (then again I probably confuse them)
Christmas cards
Christmas cake, gingerbread flavoured stuff (hot choc or spiced latte) and many other 'Christmas' foods. Do like mince pies though.

bluesky45 · 06/11/2021 16:12

Elf on the shelf
Breakfast with Santa or any overly elaborate father Christmas trip, we do a basic one but I do look for one with a lovely traditional type setting.
Most of the traditional Christmas dinner foods, but I'd be upset to eat anything other than a roast!
Toy advent calendars
Blue or cold white lights

PizzaCrust · 06/11/2021 16:28

Christmas pudding, brussel sprouts, bread sauce, cranberry sauce.

Elf on the Shelf.

Waking up to no snow most Christmas mornings.

KineticSand · 06/11/2021 16:31

I hate advent calendars for adults with things like beauty products in. All that plastic crap for landfill. Surely only a few of the products would suit you anyway.

LBOCS2 · 06/11/2021 16:35

Christmas cake and pudding aren't a thing in our house, none of us are that fussed.

Don't do turkey.

I very cleverly looked at Elf on the Shelf when it became a 'thing' when DD1 was little and decided I'd lose interest in that VERY quickly so I didn't introduce it to our household. I feel smug about this every year.

Don't do blue or cool white lights. Warm white all the way.

Other than that, we go all in for the festive season, I love it.

@JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn

I’m with you Grin

For me it depends on whether they are full on Christmas themed. We have winter themed brushed cotton bedding that gets put on the beds at the beginning of Dec, but it’s used all winter (and washed regularly, before anyone comments 😅).

Same with PJs. Everyone in the house gets a new pair of PJs in Dec, but not Christmas themed ones.

My brother gave us a gravy boat in the shape of a robin, which only gets used for Xmas and New Year, but I love it so don’t mind storing it at the back of the cupboard.

Chippymunks · 06/11/2021 16:45

Christmas Eve boxes, I don’t really know much about them. DH and I have a lovely tradition of opening a bottle of bubbly on Christmas Eve and giving each other a small present and a card. It’s lovely to share a special moment before all the chaotic family opening of presents the next day.
Loads of decorations, I’d be happy with just a tree and some lights outside.

Mrsfussypants1 · 06/11/2021 16:59

Work Secret Santa. I'm wearing my mask for our work exchange this year to hide my reaction, the eyes will give it away I'm sure. Several years of complete tat.

The elf on the shelf

Boxing day sales, both online and real life. I love a bargain, but I'm just not spending the day shopping.

New years, for lots of reasons. I love a good get together but this is just another day to me.

Animood · 06/11/2021 17:00

Only bit I really like is spending time with family and friends.

The rest of it isn't that great! 🤣

lazylinguist · 06/11/2021 17:01

I love Christmas, including all of tge traditional food. I'm not a fan of...

Panto or other Christmas entertainment
Elf on the shelf
Christmas Eve boxes
Christmas themed bedding or nightwear
Christmassy tat of all kinds
Big tins of crap chocolates
Advent calendars for adults
Artificial Christmas trees
Starting Christmas too early

Oh and religion Grin

DockOTheBay · 06/11/2021 17:01

Unpopular opinion but I'm not that bothered about Christmas Dinner. It's just a roast really, we are having a roast today and most weekends so I don't find it special. I love the other food of Christmas though and especially Christmas pudding.

I'm not bothered about cards, we only exchange with older relatives who expect it.

I think crackers are a waste of money and I hate crappy jokes and wearing an annoying paper hat throughout my dinner

DockOTheBay · 06/11/2021 17:03

Oh I also dislike Elf on the Shelf, cheap Christmas chocolate (those god awful Kinnerton advent calendars 🤢) and piles of tat. But surely thats obvious

UnsolicitedDickPic · 06/11/2021 17:06

@Vanuatu

Christmas dinner
This. I just don't get the fuss. It's a glorified Sunday roast. It'll be especially hard to be arsed this year as I suspect it'll be just me and DD - I've recently left my DP and it's unlikely he's going to visit on Christmas Day.
MeatyRvita · 06/11/2021 17:09

Xmas tv programming
Blue Christmas lights
Elf on the shelf
Stolen/panetone/gingerbread
Christmas cards
Crackers
Getting dressed up to sit in the living room

choli · 06/11/2021 17:09

@Invasionofthegutsnatchers

Advent argh
Yes, being reminded that it is supposed to be a religious holiday really sucks doesn't it.
1stTimeMama · 06/11/2021 17:09

Panto. Hate them. So cringey, I can't fathom the thought of ever going again!

goose1964 · 06/11/2021 17:12

Christmas eve box, although we have a 1st December box, by accident, it has all our Christmas stuff that's not decorations in it. So mugs, cushions, wall hanging (from Tallinn) advent book etc in it.

Elf on the shelf. Overdoing the chocolate, hot chocolate.
