Where are the Christmas lists I've come to rely on? Shock

Every Christmas when I have no idea what to get my three children I google "Christmas presents (age of my child) mumsnet and there are threads galore with ideas for me.

Not so this year!

So assuming there isn't a ban on these types of threads, does anyone fancy listing what they've bought/planning to buy for their older children?

Thank you muchly.

Worth noting that for high end gaming. If it’s just for the likes of Minecraft you could probably get something a bit cheaper.

hiredandsqueak · 06/11/2021 19:47

@ihearttc Could you link to the blanket and wall art please? Ds is also a huge F1 fan.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 06/11/2021 19:56

An add on set for her Snap Circuits set I bought years ago and she's recently rediscovered and used a lot.
Electronic drum set as she's started to have lessons at school and really enjoyed it.
Those are her main presents, we've had a new kitchen and bathroom this year so not spending as much as normal as still paying that off, but I've also gotten her some shower steamers and a Bluetooth shower radio as we didn't have a shower before.
I bought her and my mum horse riding lessons last year which they enjoyed (mum last rode 40+ years ago and despite her initial concern loved being back in the saddle) so will probably get them a gift voucher each for a beach ride.

Whittards are doing hot chocolate advent calendars that are £££ I'm keeping an eye to see if they go down in the sale once December hits. DD would quite like a hot chocolate a day in January.

If anyone's DC like history or collecting coins last year I bought DD a genuine Roman ring which she loves (only fits her small finger though) and some old coins I think they were from George 3rds, Victorias, Henry 8th time and a roman coin as well as an ammonite necklace. I bought all of them from etsy and they are possibly her favourite ever gifts as she always shows people when they come round.

@Feckauras thank you!

For those of you who have previously bought the Wacom tablets - does the size make a difference? Not sure whether to get a medium or small, the Wacom m is a reasonable price and then I could just purchase the clip Studio Package
But the intuos small is only £20 more in Argos and comes with 3 drawing packages

moomoogalicious · 07/11/2021 08:16

Ghds
Jellycat cactus
Football shirt
Fragrance miniature set
Kawaii cactus rubbers
Lush set
Juice phone power pack
Macrame plant holder

We bought this for my daughter last year. It seems to do everything she wants it to do.

Thanks @Worriedmum42
It was your post I saw with the clip studio pic, I wouldn’t have had a clue how to even purchase the software otherwise Grin

Grin I think I found all the recommendations on here last year!
Feckauras · 07/11/2021 17:34

@Kerplunkk I have a Wacom intuso medium size, got it 10 years ago. I don’t really use it now, iPad and procreate app work a lot more efficiently. If your Dc is into art and design especially digital, it might be worth getting her the Adobe creative cloud package, it includes photoshop, indesign, illustrator etc, and unlimited free fonts and tutorials and upgrades. I think they do a student subscription for £15-18 a month (you’ll need to double check) Adobe creative cloud is what is used in the creative industry.

Kerplunkk · 07/11/2021 20:09

@Feckauras DS doesn’t have an iPad, would be working alongside his laptop. This would be a beginners graphic tablet for him, he loves drawing though, I dont want to spend more than £150 (incl the design package)

Rivermonsters · 07/11/2021 20:50

Derailing the thread. How much does your son weigh OP? If he’s underweight than eating first will often ‘bulk up’ his arms..I speak from personal experience

TheSunIsStillShining · 07/11/2021 20:56

@BearSoFair

DS2 12 is a tricky one this year! So far a book on he history of gaming and a Nasa space photography jigsaw. No idea for a 'main' present at the moment and not many ideas for other smaller bits either.

DD 14: Wacom drawing tablet, maybe a ramen set with the proper bowls, spoons and chopsticks. His Dark Materials Funko figures.

DS1 19: Guitar pedal that makes synth sounds, DH is on price watch to try to find a good deal!

Try reverb. Gumtree for musicians :)
EmeraldShamrock · 07/11/2021 20:58

Place-marking for ideas.

@HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime
Electronic drum set as she's started to have lessons at school and really enjoyed it.
We did this 4 years ago for the then 12yr old son. If you don't mind a suggestion: if you can afford it go for the basic Roland one. The head -brains- can be changed later if needed. But it is a good value for money even with the basic head.
Also be prepared that to enjoy it really you will eventually buy an amp. Make sure you buy a drum/bass special one (we got Roland PM-100). Well worth the price.

Our presents for 16yr old son (bday and xmas as they are close together):

  • ipad, cheapest, only because it is on the brink of breaking
  • violin (not sure about this yet :))
  • new drumsticks
  • new picks for guitar
  • some pedal -probs distortion- for guitar
  • me taking him to violin lessons when it is below 10 degrees. Otherwise it's the bus.

joint present with me: new drum amp, as I stole his for my bass and now he wants it back. Or maybe the new one. We'll sort it when we have it.

And in some cases even the xmas presents will be second hand. Probably the pedal, amp, and maybe even the violin.

Hanswurst · 08/11/2021 06:56

Can anyone recommend a good graphic novel for a 12yo please? No clue where to start and what would be suitable!

@Hanswurst my Ds is into the Bleach series and there are lots of books, he also liked Classroom Ninja.
I’d be interested to hear others recommendations though as Ds needs some new books

Tumtitumtum · 08/11/2021 07:42

Already taken loads from this thank you!

foxgoosefinch · 08/11/2021 09:34

Buying a 12 year old “bum bum cream”? Shock

Tumtitumtum · 08/11/2021 09:59

@foxgoosefinch I had to go Google that now 😂

Looks like just a body cream range thankfully!

foxgoosefinch · 08/11/2021 10:11

Yeah but the whole marketing strategy of “Brazilian bum bum cream” is the idea of making your body look like you have a Brazilian “lifted” bum! Not exactly the healthiest message to be sending a 12 year old.

Anyway. Straying across from FWR to Christmas this morning, so I’ll turn my feminism filter off and my Christmas filter back on now Grin
