And I've only gone and bought stollen bites and mini florentines - What are the chances of them lasting til Christmas??

My guess is very slim chances indeed.

I might just have to run a trial to see which are the best items to get later Wink

@daytripper28

I tend to buy from wherever has the cheapest deals for what I want. This week, it appears to be tesco with their 2 for £7 on certain prepared joints of meat and Morrison's for bigger joints.

TreaslakeandBack · 26/09/2021 12:08

Do they have chocolate covered stollen bites? I couldn’t find them last year.

I brought white chocolate orange segments from Sainsbury's the other week for Christmas.

Ds and I I scoffed a share bag each last weekend whilst watching a film.

At least we now know we like them and do - indeed - want them for Christmas Grin

@TreaslakeandBack

Didn't see chocolate covered ones - but we only have a smallish Aldi

Seeing this thread made me very happy @daytripper28 🎄

trappedsincesundaymorn · 26/09/2021 12:40

I bought a panettone on Thursday to put by for Christmas. I may, or may not, need to buy a replacement one next week (hint...I will).

Kuachui · 26/09/2021 12:44

I start getting excited in September and planning everything and I buy everything before mid November normally during October so yanbu. Xmas board is my fave!!!

lazylinguist · 26/09/2021 12:56

I don't think it's about worrying about Christmas foods - rather it's how yummy they are and good to eat at any time.

...which makes them not so Christmassy. Nothing very exciting about eating Christmassy stuff at Christmas if you've already been eating it for a quarter of the year imo.

nannannanana · 26/09/2021 13:02

I am excited for the mini florentine's and I bought some cheese that goes in the oven mixed with chorizo the other day.

StandardLampski · 26/09/2021 13:03

@Oohchichi they do have th pretzels in ours!

greyinganddecaying · 26/09/2021 13:15

Does Aldi have 3/4/5 bird roasts back in ready for Christmas? Haven't seen them for ages.

whatarethechances2021 · 26/09/2021 13:21

Are much items able to be frozen ?

FizzyPink · 26/09/2021 13:24

Mine had those Parmesan cheese cracker bites yesterday. Need to go back without DP with me as he was horrified that I might consider buying Christmas food already Hmm

I really hope they do Pandoro’s again this year, I’m not a Panettone fan despite being gifted one by a client every single year

Taiyo · 26/09/2021 13:31

Enjoy it all now because by December the shops will be full of easter stuff. 🐣

escapeyou · 26/09/2021 13:35

@QuestionableMouse

It's September. Not sure if we really need to worry about Christmas food yet.
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out of the Christmas boards.
SnottyLottie · 26/09/2021 13:39

Any sign of the mulled wine/Glûhwein yet?

DiamondBright · 26/09/2021 14:02

I daren't buy such things just yet or me and DD will eat them, I buy ingredients for baking and stuff for the freezer only at this stage. Except the two panettone I bought today. BUT I will be looking at it all in the shops and planning what to buy nearer the time. I love Christmas and those that don't should remove themselves from this board.

Deciding when it's time to start festive eating is all part of Christmas in my house.

thesearesexpeople · 26/09/2021 14:23

WHAT FLAVOUR MINCE PIES DO THEY HAVE???

SoupDragon · 26/09/2021 14:25

Do they have the potted cheddar in yet?

daytripper28 · 26/09/2021 14:33

Sorry folks can’t answer all the questions as didn’t take proper notes 😂😂 maybe someone more observant could help??

I was in Aldi yesterday and bought Danish cookies and florentines to officially start my xmas food cupboard. As I was stood browsing a random man stopped and commented on xmas stuff being out 'already' i said 'I know, its quite exciting' GrinGrin

Sn0tnose · 26/09/2021 14:42

I’ve been eating these Sainsbury’s mince pies for weeks. They are top 3 of all mince pies I’ve ever tasted!

@daytripper28 How big are the bites? I think you need to do a taste test for research purposes.

Ilikewinter · 26/09/2021 14:44

I love Morrisons mince pies, got a pack of 6 on Thursday, unfortunately the eat by date was 3rd October, so me and DH have eaten them 😊🤣

RedToothBrush · 26/09/2021 14:45

Do not keep them in the kitchen cupboard. Put them somewhere out the way like on top of a wardrobe or something where you are more likely to forget about them, rather then being reminded and tempted every time you open the kitchen cupboard when you are hungry.

It also takes more effort to walk up stairs and purposefully get them. If they are out of your sight you won't constantly think 'oh fuck it why not'.

I also start buying long dated goods for Christmas around the start of October and it works well.

NotMyCat · 26/09/2021 14:46

Not good but I did get these from sainsburys
I wanted the surf winter sparkle but they didn't have it
