For me it's Quality Street (even though they taste rubbish compared to when I was little) and fried potato sandwiches for breakfast. The smell of the quality street tin or tub is one of my favourite smells and they smell the same even if they don't taste the same. There's other things too but those two are the main ones for me.
@PaperDolphin It's an old recipe passed on verbally from a friend's grandmother but this one is pretty close to what I do. I use about double the amount of marzipan mentioned here though, if not triple. Usually make two 'logs' of marzipan instead of one.
Thank you!

@EvenLess07 my dad always had York fruits at Christmas, thank you for reminding me about them, I will get some for myself this year.

Love this thread!

Xmas Eve Afternoon is always our baking day. Dds and I make sausage rolls, Cinnamon rolls (for Xmas breakfast) and a chocolate log.

My favourite bit of Xmas day is the Prosecco with home made Sloe Gin and blinis which we have before lunch.

RosesAndHellebores · 23/09/2021 21:48

Oh gosh yes @Lysianthus. Perfect Boxing Day breakfast. So thrilled to have finally found one who agrees Smile

@RosesAndHellebores you are my people! 🦃 🎄

MyPatronusIsAPenguin · 23/09/2021 22:04

Mine is the smell of turkey cooking in the morning. It is the only day of the year along with Boxing Day we have a cooked meal at lunchtime so I never ever smell cooking in the morning any other time. We go to my mums Boxing Day and I love the smell hitting me as I open the door

Bucks Fizz, the only time I have it
The smell of whatever tin of chocolates is on the go (we actually have a proper metal tin and I bit the bags and decant the chocolates into that as the sound of the tin is also Christmas to me
I would have said Baileys but we've discovered the Sainsburys own version is really nice and cheap so we have it all year round now
The Mumsnet love it or hate it picky teas Grin

White port with roasted almonds
French martinis (chambord, vodka, pineapple juice, shaken)
Mulled cider or apple juice
Anton Berg chocolate liqueurs hung on the tree and had as an after dinner treat through December
M&S vegan turkey cranberry sandwiches
DH and DM will at some stage demolish a jar of pickled onions together whilst Dad and I make Envy Confused faces
Just rol Croissants baked on Christmas morning

HeronLanyon · 24/09/2021 07:57

White port - not sure I’ve ever had. For some reason at 8am that sounds good! Gonna investigate (a little later).

nickdrakeslovechild · 25/09/2021 12:00

Stollen with Baileys.

This year I really fancy the old style chocolate liquers in the bottle shapes, when you bite into them they have a slight crunch where the sugar has crystalised inside. Do they even do those anymore?

nickdrakeslovechild · 26/09/2021 09:53

oooh thank you sueelleker, I will get those.

dmudbur · 26/09/2021 14:30

Bucks Fizz
Treeslets
Chocolate truffles
Tubs of Celebrations & Heroes
Boursin cheese
Mince pies
Costco's European Cookies - Like Fox's biscuits but better!
Pigs in blankets

For some reason I have a really strong nostalgic urge to hunt out some of those chocolate tree decorations that look like rolled umbrellas. I haven't had one in years.
