Been picking up non-perishables as I’ve been going along. Need to do fresh food, Veg, cheese etc.
Was planning on 23rd but now wondering if that will be too late as imagine with more people staying home and having to buy for thier little family things might run our earlier this year?
Eg in normal years for example with 4 households going to one house for Xmas dinner only 1 pack of sprouts, 1 jar of cranberry etc will be needed but if those 4 households are now all staying home then they will all buy a bag of sprouts and a jar of cranberry (as not really easy to get 1/4 bag of sprouts for instance)

I have ordered cheese, pate, meat and a veg box from a local butcher which I’m collecting Wednesday, getting a few bits tomorrow as it’s my only child free day, haven’t got much to get as I have been picking up bits each week so will mainly be food for the rest of the week.

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 19/12/2020 14:36

I'm collecting / having a delivery on 22nd. We usually shop on a Tuesday anyway, so it fits in with our schedule!

Greenvalleysightseeker · 19/12/2020 14:58

I'm a bit anxious about this too. There was only massive frozen turkeys left last week, and we don't have that much space in the freezer so it'll have to be fresh. We could make do with a large chicken but I imagine they'll be popular this year too. I've bought everything ahead that I can, but am a bit worried about the last minute stuff.
I'll probably go v early Tuesday or Wednesday as I'm working Monday. If it comes to it we'll have beef as I've got a joint in the fridge already! I only want to do one supermarket shop now before the big day, and will top-up from the Co-op after that.

sofiaaaaaa · 19/12/2020 15:00

The queues/shop entry limits add another dimension to this. Literally first come, first serve as you may not be able to quickly run in and grab what you need

Spudlet · 19/12/2020 15:04

I got mine today. We’re only having a chicken, so I froze it. Same for the pigs in blankets and stuffing. Everything else will keep ok in the fridge or garage. I might have to get a few little extra bits this week, but the bulk of it is done.

Pipandmum · 19/12/2020 15:13

I've got tesco delivery booked for the 23rd with the turkey and fresh stuff. Annoyubg bought some foods today that were advertised as good fjr fube days plus so thought I'd get away with it but the date on them is the 20th!
I'll just go out a couple days before to get anything I've missed. Was at M&S at 9am this morning and it was packed though.

Spied · 19/12/2020 15:16

We have an Asda delivery on the 23rd.
Our turkey is showing up as now unavailable.
So are the carrots.
No substitute available.

WorraLiberty · 19/12/2020 15:17

All done and will be delivered on 22nd.

peony68 · 19/12/2020 15:20

Went to our local Morrisons today , they had plenty of fresh turkey crowns of various sizes .

Hohomerryxmas · 19/12/2020 15:38

We have our food delivered on the 23rd between 9am and 11am. Alwayd try and get the earliest slot possible so I can then pop into a local store later on in the day to get anything Asda didn't have available to deliver.

HermioneWeasley · 19/12/2020 15:42

Went shopping today and everything had a past25th date. I did a food order which I’ll collect on 23rd but hoping not to have to a up for other shopping.

Deelish75 · 19/12/2020 15:42

Picking up my pre ordered meats and desserts on the 22nd. Sainsbury’s click and collect for fresh fruit, veg and salad, dairy, and bakery foods on the morning of the 23rd. For the last couple of years I found about 11am on Christmas Eve a good time to go to my local Tesco and get anything that was missed off the previous day’s click and collect.

merlotormalbec · 19/12/2020 15:43

I've got my non perishables and picking up my food order 22nd, I'm off on the 23rd so figured I could get stuff then if anything was missing. Picking up turkey and ham on Xmas eve

FlappingPancakes · 19/12/2020 15:46

I did a massive Iceland shop to go to a relative's house where we were going for Xmas to arrive on the 23rd

We drink, they don't. I ordered enough booze to sink the titanic

So if we go into tier4 and can't travel, their neighbours will be having a very merry Xmas

Roominmyhouse · 19/12/2020 15:52

I’ve got my delivery coming Tuesday night so I’ve got time to go to the shops Wednesday if anything important is missing 🤞🏻

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 19/12/2020 16:12

This is the first year I've bought a frozen turkey, it's huge! But a really good clubcard price. It's also the first year that I've bought everything I need to cook Xmas Dinner this far in advance including all snacks and booze. I wanted to avoid the shops as much as possible, I've been going late at night and stashing bits away. What I don't have is cauliflower, bread sauce abs custard so hopefully will grab those

desperatehousewife21 · 19/12/2020 18:28

Got most things as I’ve been buying as I go, a fair bit is frozen.
I still need to get all the fresh so am going to Sainsbury’s tomorrow morning (hoping it won’t be panic stations due to us going into tier 4) then if needed I’ll do a top up on maybe wed or v early in the morning on thur

lachy · 19/12/2020 19:03

I just need to get fresh veg and I'm done. Not sure about pudding, might just get a roulade or a pavlova now its just the three of us!

TheCrow · 19/12/2020 19:14

Booked a Tesco order for 7-8 on the evening of the 22nd, then if anythings missing I can pop out and pick it up, got an Aldi, Lidl, small Asda and Sainsbury's all nearby so I should be able to get everything from some sort of combination of those places!

BrieAndChilli · 19/12/2020 19:26

I think tomorrow will be crazy in supermarket in light of all the new lockdown and Christmas restrictions!!

Yes I think you might be right there 😳
TwnklTwnklLittleStarfighter · 19/12/2020 20:04

Just copying from the bargain thread in case it helps anyone who was planning to travel and therefore hadn’t planned a food shop ...

Code 8354BAN gives 20% off Morrison’s food boxes including the Festive Feast Box. So Christmas dinner for 4 including cheese board, desert etc for £40 delivered.

FlappingPancakes · 19/12/2020 20:16

I have managed to switch my Iceland order to home, thank you Iceland!

PumpkinPie2016 · 19/12/2020 21:13

I've got most stuff and have ordered meat/pigs in blankets/stuffing from my butcher so I know that's ok.

Planning to get last fresh bits very early Monday morning.

Those going later in the week - don't panic too much. My dad drives HGVs for a company who delivers food for supermarkets -they are delivering right up to and including Christmas eve and sending out far more wagons than normal!

AliceMcK · 19/12/2020 21:19

Tomorrow or Monday, we don’t go mad on Christmas stuff, it’s just a Sunday roast for us. I will buy what ever meats got the longest shelf life, nit fussed what it is, nine of us really like turkey, if there are no spuds I have frozen, as long as I can get some veg I’m happy. I’ve got all my non perishables ages ago.
