Thanks @GoblinDaughter for the title

It’s nearly December, Father Christmas is busy putting the final touches to his toys on the workshop and we are busy elves preparing for a somewhat different Christmas this year.

please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Has anyone seen a chess set on their travels. All the ones I find seem to be travel magnetic versions (so small) or £40 posh. I'm just looking for a set for my 5 and 7 year old to learn on. Maybe around £10?

@Autumnwoman

I need help with an Xbox gift!

I want to buy DH a year of Xbox subscription. But I'm getting really confused between Ultimate Game Pass, Xbox live and Xbox Gold.

He doesn't do any online gaming at all. But I would like to give him something with access to the greatest number of different games. I can't work out which package is worth having, if you're not fussed about online gaming.

If anyone has teenagers, I'd really appreciate it if someone could pick their brains!

There is a way to buy Gold live for a year and upgrade for £1 to the ultimate pass. This thread is one of many on HDUK and I'm hoping to do this at Christmas. It seems a bit confusing at first but they are a helpful bunch.

Should my Switch ever arrive is the Nintendo online subscription the same? Also don't want to play online with others, I haven't bought any games yet as I have no idea if the bloody thing will arrive or not!

mummabear74 · 12/12/2020 22:16

Could anyone help with ideas for an 11 year old girl (wants something crafty but not tie dye set as I got that for her birthday) and a 2 year old girl. They seem to have everything so I'm struggling. Budget of around £10 if possible, but could stretch to £15. Thanks.

Dogmatix34 · 12/12/2020 22:22

@Whalewithnosnail
We got a lovely chess set for around £15 from Jaques of London, came beautifully packaged and looks so much more expensive than it was

Bezzi · 12/12/2020 22:29

@Whalewithnosnail I bought this chess set from Argos a few years ago for my boys. It's robust and has served them well. Wooden and only £8

SewVeryLazy · 12/12/2020 22:37

Amazon currently have blockus game down to £14.99
People recommended it a million threads ago but I left it in my basket as it was £25 and my kids are probably a bit young, snapped it up now for a later date, so thanks for the recommendation

Puffalicious · 12/12/2020 22:39

Whalewithnosnail I also ordered from Jaques of London too this year. Not arrived yet but have high hopes.

Haveyoubrushedyourteeth · 12/12/2020 22:39

I was just about to suggest Argos for the chess set, we got one from there last year for the children to learn on.

Luxplus · 12/12/2020 22:52

We have a chess set from djeco www.birdkids.co.uk/games/classic-games-by-djeco-chess/
Really lovely and nice quality

Rubyroo73 · 12/12/2020 22:58

@mummabear74
Klutz craft book sets are great for that age. Have a look on amazon - there are loads to choose from. Hobbycraft and others sell them too. We’ve had lots, most recently the mini bake shop and grocery store were big hits and I’ve bought my 10 year old the sew donut animals and pet adoption kits for Xmas

@SewVeryLazy thanks for the blokus tip. I seriously need to buy but any more games though. That's the third one this week! Xmas Blush

sorryiasked · 12/12/2020 23:11

@Autumnwoman - as @mummabear74 linked above, buy up to 3 years of gold and upgrade it to ultimate. This is our first time with an xbox too (last computer game I had was pacman!!!) but I did this a couple of weeks ago with no problem.
Buy 3 x 12mth gold subscriptions for £40 each - i think i got them from cdkeys? - and then once they've been uploaded to xbox it will ask if you want to upgrade subs to ultimate. Choose yes and it converts the gold subs so you end up with 3 yrs ultimate for the price of 1. Just make sure the gold subs is showing on your acct before you accept the ultimate offer.

DD announced today she would quite like Gravitrax! I thought I was done!

Is it a good present for a 7 year old?

Any bargains or tips and tricks for it?!

Thank you!

I offer you (in my local) Body Shop spend £45 and get a decent sized gift set free

YouWantToDoWhatInAPyrexDish · 12/12/2020 23:40

Is there any way to play Just Dance without a games console? My dd loves dancing along to the just dance videos and I think she’d enjoy the game but we don’t have a games console. We do have a tv that can link up to the internet if there’s any sort of online version. I’m a bit clueless as you can tell. I can’t buy a games console for Christmas - present budget already gone - but thought I’d see if there was an alternative way of playing the game. Any help gratefully received!

@Scanner20 thanks for the Blume tip ordered 2 for my granddaughter. Not aware of them before but I’m sure she will have fun with them.

Notlongnow1 · 13/12/2020 00:17

@youwanttodowhatinapyrexdish

No experience but looks like you can using a free app. Details here but no idea if there are added costs to get more so far etc

BorisSortYourHairOutAndBrexit · 13/12/2020 00:59

Does anyone know if George at Asda often do online discount codes or if they have big discount events like TU at Sainsbury’s?

There are some Jim jams I’ve got my eye on but I’m not sure whether to risk it and wait until after Christmas hoping they still have them in the right size!

Thank you Xmas Smile

Hello, just jumping on the thread to ask if anyone can remember about some fingerless gloves that were being recommended on this board a while ago...I forgot the brand! Thank you

MaudHatter · 13/12/2020 02:05

You can watch Just dance videos on YouTube and dance along to them . I’ve done this with my class on wet days . They love it !

whatwillicallmyself · 13/12/2020 02:59

@Theimpossiblegirl you could set up an account with dpd parcel wizard using your father in laws address, then post the crumpets to dpd in Northern Ireland and they will deliver it the next day to your father in law for €3.85 so you would be paying postage to N.I but as it uk postal system it could get there quicker and then the €3.85 would get it to Tipperary the next day provided you have paid the €3.85 in advance. Mind you the postage would probably cost more than the crumpets🤣🤣

Inkpaperstars · 13/12/2020 03:19

Ah yes that rings a bell, thank you @greyinganddecaying
